New festival Forgotten Fields reveals lineup with Super Furry Animals and more

The creative minds behind Kendal Calling bring you Forgotten Fields, a ground breaking new festival at Eridge Deer Park in Sussex.

Celebrating 10 years of Kendal Calling, the Cumbrian team are launching a show in the South of England their vision that captures the heart and spirit of the original festival, and condenses it for an intimate audience of just 4000 party goers. Much like its Lake District counterpart, Forgotten Fields brings together unrivalled atmospheric charm and a quality line-up of emerging and established talent that spans the genres, all in a stunning location at a fantastic price.  Those 4000 festival fans who snap up tickets will share in the good times this beautiful little festival will offer and cherish them for years to come.

Re-formed, psychedelic rockers, Super Furry Animals return to the fray after a 6 year hiatus and bring a huge back catalogue of incredible tracks to Forgotten Fields.  The band are one of the most imaginative and powerful acts the UK has produced and there appearance is sure to be a stand out summer festival moment.

Basement Jaxx will headline the Friday night of the festival, bringing their genre-defining sound to the Main Stage, with hits like 'Where's Your Head At?', 'Romeo', 'Red Alert' and countless others set to feature.  Saturday will see the south coast’s favourite sons and festival favourites, The Levellers top the bill with a set full of folk-rock sing along anthems. 

The Horrors look set to provide a suitably immersive performance from across their critically acclaimed back catalogue, hip hop pioneers De La Soul will be showing exactly why they’ve stood the test of time and Public Service Broadcasting will perform their incredible new album The Race For Space.  British Sea Power played the first ever Kendal Calling festival and fittingly perform at the inaugural Forgotten Fields alongside American indie rockers Augustines. Hip Hop turntablist and cut n’ paste maestro DJ Yoda & The Breakfast Of Champions will showcase his unique style with many more acts still to be announced across the two main stages.

Other acts performing include Skinny Lister, Sam Brookes, Coco and the Butterfields, Beans On Toast, Wooden Arms, Tom Williams, Get Inuit and many more.

Three other stages will provide a different musical focus. The Gypsy Disco will be a must-visit for fans of Ska, Balkan, Swing and immersive theatre, whilst the House Party stage will provide the perfect setting for ground breaking comedy. Arguably one of the most exciting areas of the festival, The Horizons stage will host the hottest new bands and artists, the type of acts you'll expect to see storming up the festival bills in years to come. 

For fans of the finer things in life there is world-class gourmet food available on site as well as a dedicated real ale bar, and those averse to the idea of camping can enjoy a multitude of bespoke accommodation options.  There will also be extravagant site art, festival games, fancy dress frolics, boutique stalls and camp fire tales all set in the picturesque English Countryside.

The Horrors and more added to Standon Calling 2015 lineup

Today the festival invites even more names to the party including pioneering shoegazers The Horrors. With four acclaimed albums under their belts, the UK band are set to take festival-goers on a journey into blissful psychedelia with their unique sound when they take to the main stage this August. 

In keeping with the birthday celebrations, Will & The People will no doubt have Standon Calling revellers in the party spirit with their raucous mix of reggae, ska and rock. The self-funded Brighton four-piece have become somewhat of a phenomena after selling out headline tours in Europe, playing four continents and releasing three albums. Renowned for their high energy live shows, The Cuban Brothersjoin in on the celebrations over the weekend for plenty of musical numbers, breakdancing and tongue in cheek hilarity.

This year Standon Calling's own famous nightclub, The Cowshed, will be taken over each night by a different host for three very different parties. Outrageous polysexual club crew Sink The Pink invite all to lose their inhibitions with their brand new dirty disco party Savage, Bondax bring the sounds of the summer with woozy R&B-tinged house and Gilles Peterson & Patrick Forge haul their massive record collections into The Cowshed to present the legendary jazz, funk and dance sounds of the original Dingwalls Sunday Sessions, established in 1987.

Perched on the lawn next to the festival's own swimming pool is The Last Dance Saloon, where BBC Introducing are set to champion new music with upcoming local acts, while independent record labelsLoose Music and Bella Union will be showcasing their own talent across the weekend. Acts for The Last Dance Saloon to be announced very soon.

Other highlights from today's additions include one of Q Magazine's “ten DJs to see before you die” DJ Yoda, Swedish/Gambian songstress Seinabo Sey and Scottish synth poppers Prides, who closed last year's Commonwealth Games.

Alongside the music, Standon Calling has revealed a myriad of activities and entertainment on offer across the site in keeping with its new theme 'A Town of Two Faces'. Inspired by the Wild West with a twist, one can brave a visit to Dr. Leech’s Wellness Center & Funeral Parlour to take A Beginners Class in Taxidermy and learn how to survive a standoff with a rattlesnake, get up close and personal with animals from the West at Wild Wyatt's Traveling Menagerie, or try their hand at Death Drawing with Art Macabre. Festival-goers can gather in The Town Square and get their dancing shoes on at The Dance Off’s Hillbilly Hoedown or take centre stage with the ever-popular Rockaoke. At The Church Fate join Legs Akimbo who will be delivering the kind of service you won't want to miss. Plus, fresh from their smash-hit V&A show, boundary-pushing art collective The Treatment Rooms return to Standon to offer revellers the chance to mosaic their own tombstone and take The Ride of Your Life in the Voodoo Taxi Wagon. The wonderful Salon London will also return to The Last Dance Saloon to host a selection of inspiring and surprising interactive talks and classes on the subject of Dark Matters and Bright Ideas.

The Horrors, John Grant and many more set for Blissfields 2015

Blissfields are proud to unveil the first wave of musical guests for 2015. The bill includes The Horrors, John Grant, Simian Mobile Disco (Live), Glass Animals, Public Service Broadcasting, Grandmaster Flash, Ibibio Sound Machine, The Correspondents, Songhoy Blues, Novelist, and Melé. Many more acts also confirmed, with a second wave still to be announced.

From a singularity in 2001, Blissfields has reached out into the cosmos inviting sold-outs crowds to its small but perfectly formed, 5,000 capacity, tree-lined mini wilderness in the Hampshire countryside. Music at Blissfields runs until around 4am each day, crafted to take its audience from clear afternoons of discovery and frivolity, through lofty main stage sets, into the heady wee small hours of the Blisscotheque and Hidden Hedge.

Eight years after The Horrors first appeared on the cover of NME, their fourth studio album Luminous marked them as one of the country’s leading, most consistent guitar acts. From their defiant early days of gothic garage-punk, they join Blissfields now as an internationally acclaimed headline act, with a truly unique sound and stage show, bringing a sense of the unreal to proceedings.

Following a string of sold out shows, including The Royal Festival Hall in London,John Grant will also bring his raw, emotional and frank take on music to Blissfields for the first time. Grant’s music has been met with universal critical acclaim, with his latest solo album, Pale Green Ghosts, garnering five star reviews and the accolade of ‘Album Of The Year’ by Rough Trade. His honest portrayal of life’s struggles have connected with listeners and even lead to Grant partaking in side projects, such as 2014 Blissfields alumni Hercules and Love Affair’s latest record.

Simian Mobile Disco will see in a late night LIVE slot on the main stage this year, their formidable set possibly including some of the remixes which bear their name – from the likes of Muse and Nine Inch Nails, to Bjork. Outside of the band, SMD’s James Ford has produced such records as Klaxon’s Mercury Prize-winning Myths Of The Near Future, Florence And The Machine’s Ceremonials, Arctic Monkeys last four ground-breaking records, and 2014’s gargantuan Jessie Ware album Tough Love.

In such a short space of time, Oxford’s Glass Animals have accosted the ear of St Vincent and Radiohead, landed a top-20 album release in Australia for their debut offering Zeba, and decorated some of the biggest stages in London including James Lavelle (UNKLE)’s curated Meltdown. Their hyper-intelligent take on guitar music has undoubtedly positioned them as one of the most sought after live acts of 2015.

Blissfields are pleased to welcome back Public Service Broadcasting. The duo’s original mix of electronica and indie with vocals hijacked from public information films has pioneered a new breed of dance-punk. Their stage show, complete with blinking TV sets, live strings and vintage suits, will beautifully join eras and attitudes together, fittingly into the festival’s 2015 “Somewhere In Time” theme suspiciously well.

Elsewhere and Bona fide DJ pioneer Grandmaster Flash will be serving his lessons in the lost art of hip-hop and turntable technique, bringing some legacy to the beats in 2015, while Eton Messy return in the slot previously occupied by the likes of Snakehips, Bondax, Alunageorge.

After seeing Eclair Fifi and Monki tear the festival apart in 2014, the Blisscotheque is once again looking at the brightest young stars, this year securing Novelist andMelé to headline the stage. Novelist has been riding high on a wave of success since being nominated for the BBC Sound of 2015 and will take the Friday slot with his own inimitable grimy sound whilst the Annie Mac endorsed Melé will close the stage on Saturday.

With a long history of welcoming emerging talent, from Bastille in 2012, Sam Smith in 2013, and Years & Years in 2014, attention will once again be on the festival to highlight the best in new music. Palace, Flo Morrissey, Gengahr, Loyle Carner, Kiko Bun, Alex Adair, Ekkah and Songhoy Blues are just some of the names already twitching the curtain of the internet in that respect.

Of course it wouldn’t be Blissfields without festival favourites Dub Pistols, returning this year to the main stage. Along with The Correspondents, who headline the Thursday night of the event, Ibibio Sound Machine and Hidden Hedge headliners Missill, they form a hazy heart of the festival – a mix of world influences and cross-genre infusions for the times when it’s okay to be lost in a field in England.

Field Day 2014 Review

I dressed for rain and lightening as i left my house for Victoria Park. Field Day would be my first taste of festival. The sun burned down on my super cool VIP wrist band as i rushed through the park to the Crack Magazine stage to catch the last few songs of Thursten Moore, the sonic youth God. 

This was the beginning of a long day, of walking to and throw. Of losing friends and meeting nice Irish men who buy you sambuca shots. I feasted my eyes on stalls of food from every cuisine; animal carcuses next to The Buddah Bowl which served and absolutely divine bowl of rice and something. With no money in my pocket, i had to resign myself to the spoonful i was offered from the bottom of my pals bowl. I walked past fair ground rides and adults playing tug of war surrounded by hay bails. There was so much going on that i became overwhelmed, and as time flew by me i couldnt even recall what i had been doing since i arrived. The sun began to set as i sat on a plastic covered ground to hear Metronomy play out over their zillion fans. It was soon to be the set that i had been waiting for.

The summer ale had gone to my headm as i stumbled through the darkness to find the stage. Red light shone through clouds of of smoke over a sea of figures and the band above. Tailored black trousers and a temporary shirtm towered above me and sung what i’d been waiting to hear. Fat White Family were before me, I had been waiting to see them perform and their presence on stage was surreal. Shrouded beneath the huge tent, encroached by darkness and a chanting croud. It had the feeling of a cult, a gathering of of believers waiting to hear the voice of their leader in the hope of hearing something divine. A skinny half naked preacher stood before them through war-like red smoke, his convulsing body moving back and forth while belting out the words of his heart.

The set ended to screams of encore, to no availm as the band were to later play at The Shacklewell Arms. The first day ended as part of a slow walking mass, silhuettes passing out of the gates and into the empty night. Victoria Park lit up ahead like  beams from the stars, over a scattered sea of noise and sweat covered flesh.

S U N D AY

Sunday played host to some amazing up and coming artists, with The Pixies bringing home with their headline slot at 9.30pm.  The day begain with Brighton based band The Wytches opening on the Main stage. Their performance was raw and unpretentious, a beautiful screaching voice through parted brown locks and striped tee. Looking backm they were my favourite set of the day. Temples followed with glittered face and psych sounds that flowed in waves over the heat stroke croud. I rushed across to catch the end of Telegram, a London based band who i caught their first few gigs at the Shacklewell and the Old Blue Last in mid 2013. They have been doing super well, releasing their amazing single ‘Follow’ as well as touring with numerous well known bands throughout the Uk. Their set was really great, vocalist Matt Saunders filled the tent with his deep, powerful voice that bellowed over drums pounded by the fierce, fragile frame of drummer Jordan. 

The Horrors had the main stage before The Pixies. Playing Field Day as the first in a string of european gigs and festival dates this year, touring their recently released album ‘Luminous’.  The croud filed in to see and hold their spots, the glare of the sun bouncing of pale shoulders, beer cans and lost on the grass beneath thousands of feet. Their performance was great as expected of these boys.

The atmosphere throughout the weekend was a sweet light-hearted daze of sweat and sunshine. There were all the staples of an amazing time, all gathered together in a safe but lax environment. Situated in an access with such easy access from the centre of London, in the middle of the beautiful Victoria Gardens. Having a platform for presenting emerging UK bands as well as such significant international bands like The Pixies, and dishing it out in such a beautiful part of london is amazing. I look forward to the line up for next year.

Another massive fifty acts added to Reading and Leeds Festival lineup

The Summer Festival Guide is excited to announce a mammoth addition of fifty artists to the Reading and Leeds lineup for this summer.

This year sees one of the most spectacular Main Stage line-ups ever! Undisputed modern rock godsQueens Of The Stone Age and pop-rock superstars Paramore share headline duties alongside the completely inimitable Arctic Monkeys and pop-punk legends Blink-182.

With a supporting cast including Vampire Weekend, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, You Me At Six, Jake Bugg, Imagine Dragons, Foster The People and Deaf Havana there are now even more names set to tear up the Main Stage. Completing the line-up for the Main Stage are Brighton indie-punk duo Blood Red Shoes, Japanese metallers Crossfaith, Dry the River, Leeds boys Pulled Apart By Horses, punk trioGnarwolves, nu-metal luminaries Papa Roach, UK rock kings Young Guns and pop punk champions Tonight Alive and The Story So Far.

Over on the NME/Radio 1 Stage alongside headliners Courteeners, Bombay Bicycle Club and Disclosure will be UK anthemic rockers Twin Atlantic and last year’s Main Stage openers Mallory Knox. Also appearing are fellow newcomers Lonely The Brave, shoegazer, post punk festival veterans The Horrors, multidirectional The Kooks and Brooklyn based musician Twin Shadow.

Reading & Leeds continue to bring the best in electronic music and dance to the BBC Radio 1 Dance Stage with an exclusive performance from special guest Duke Dumont Live, AlunaGeorge,Gesaffelstein, The Glitch Mob, Borgore, Adventure Club, Snakehips and Electric Youth taking to the stage along with headliners Netsky Live, Pendulum DJ Set and Flume.

The unique sounds of Gypsy-punks Gogol Bordello and emotional rock heroes Jimmy Eat World will act as the perfect Lock Up Stage headliners, along with Brody Dalle, Möngöl Hörde and Architects.

Elsewhere, the headliners have been revealed for the Festival Republic Stage and they will be the riff-heavy Southampton group Band Of Skulls, garage rockers Palma Violets and the energetic Augustines.

Also appearing across the Festivals’ stages over the weekend will be A Wilhelm Scream, Baby Godzilla, Bear Hands,Bipolar Sunshine, Catfish And The Bottlemen, Darlia, Dave Hause, Every Time I Die,Hudson Taylor, Marika Hackman, Mayday Parade, Meridian Dan, P Money,PUP,Slaves, The Districts, The Flatliners, The Front Bottoms, The Orwells, The Skints, The Wonder Years, Touché Amoré and Wovenwar.

The Horrors, Real Estate and more join Flow Festival lineup

Flow Festival’s stellar line-up continues to grow, with the likes of The Horrors, Real Estate and FKA Twigs joining the plethora of legendary artists already confirmed.
 
Following the success of their 2011 release ‘Skying’, British garage rockers The Horrors are set to release their highly anticipated fourth album ‘Luminous’ in May before taking their live energy to the people of Flow in August. Already praised as the year's most expected album by NME, who also featured the band on its latest cover, The Horrors recently revealed the first taste of their forthcoming album by sharing the lilting Brit-pop number 'I See You'.
 
Other additions announced today include Brooklyn-based indie rockers Real Estate, who recently released their new album ‘Atlas’, along with hot British electronic talent FKA Twigs, whose critically acclaimed ‘EP2’, released on influential indie label Young Turks (The xx, Jack Penate), has scored radio support from the likes of Huw Stephens and Gilles Peterson.
 
Also included in today’s announcement are Boston-based folk singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler, and American synth-pop outfit Poliça, who have garnered praise from the likes of Rolling Stone and Pitchfork as well as procured a host of A-list fans including Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon and hip-hop giantJay-Z.
 
Local additions come in the form of Phantom, who have been noted internationally for their distinctive electro sound, the folksy and poetic singer-songwriterJoose Keskitalo, rap outfit Aivovuoto, and Pietarin Spektaakkeli, who will bring their brand of rootsy pop to the stage.
 
Artists earlier confirmed for this year’s Flow include OutKast, The National, Janelle Monáe, Die Antwoord, Paul Kalkbrenner, Slowdive and Bill Callahan, with more additions expected to be announced shortly

Over fifty acts announced for End of the Road Festival

Hosted in the wonderful surroundings of Larmer Tree Gardens in Dorset, this years End of the Road Festival will be headlined by Flaming Lips and Wild Beasts.

Along with the announced headliners, check out the fifty other artists that have been added to the lineup.

Festival founder Simon Taffe: "I am very excited to have finally got the Flaming Lips, one of the best live bands in the world today, playing End of the Road on Saturday night. It's also a great honour to have the Wild Beasts back to play a headline spot, plus some of the most interesting live bands around at the moment – White Denim, John Grant, Yo La Tengo and many more."

The Darkness

Also revealed are the chosen 20 unsigned bands who emerged from Y Not's search for the best of new talent. The festival, found in the heart of the Peak District, has a tradition of supporting emerging artists – stemming back to its birth in a quarry.

Festival organiser, Ralph Broadbent says, "There's been an excellent response this year – we had over 1,700 artists apply".

In addition to Y Not, the judging panel included BBC Introducing, Naim Label and top bands, The Horrors, Mystery Jets, and We are The Ocean. The results are on the Y Not website. BBC Introducing's Dean Jackson said: "I was happy to listen and watch the new artists as, having a long association with Y Not, I know what a fantastic opportunity it is for emerging artists to play."

Dean also explained, "I'm passionate about development of the next generation of bands and musicians so, consistent with what I do every Saturday night on the radio, I jumped at the chance to help new artists get this important early exposure". There's been widespread support through Twitter and Facebook from the bands already playing at Y Not.  

Aled, from Kids in Glass Houses, said " Every band has to start somewhere and while the computer has made it easier than ever for bands and musicians to express themselves and produce professional quality work, they still need that bit of help to get seen and heard – and luck." Their experience, he said was very similar, "We got our breaks as an unsigned band by sending our demos in the post to competitions similar to the Y Not one and magazines as well. I think Britain is very open and eager for new bands so it's great that Y Not recognise that and are actively supporting and seeking new talent. These festivals aren't gonna headline themselves in five years!"

And Y Not meanwhile is ensuring this will be a spectacular of a festival. Between the gaps in the music, there are bars, a drive- in cinema, dodgems, helter skelter, a roller disco and unusual sightings rumoured. Younger families are also being looked after – with expanded family camping and kids activity area. This year the festival runs from 2-4 August, near Matlock, Derbyshire.

We are welcoming a truck-load of great music to Hill Farm this year; on the main stage we have the likes of Spiritualized, The Horrors, The Subways, Ash, Gaz Coombes, The Joy Formidable, And So I Watch You From Afar, and Frankie and the Heartstrings; the Market Stage hosts Dry The River, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Patrick Wolf and Public Sevice Broadcasting, while the famous (and ever so slightly fragrant) Barn stage features performances from We Are The Ocean, Rolo Tomassi and Tall Ships and the mysterious Copaca-Barna takeover. Truck has always liked to host a bit of a dance party of an evening, so we are glad to welcome back the Kingdom of Jamalot, bringing everything from Reggae to House to Electro-Swing to Jazz-Funk to Dub to Beatboxing to “Home Counties Hip-Hop”… you get the picture!  Jamalot are pleased to announce Live and DJ sets from: Spaceface, The Gees, Firelodica featuring King Bracket, Positive Vibes, Simple, SRS, Boogie Bros, Nairobi, Heavy Dexters, Sensible Dancehall, King Lloyd aka Sir Sambo, The Dublings, The Fridge and Bungle, Pieman, Rip/Rhymeskeemz, Mr Shaodow, and the Knights of Jamalot. Yes,Mr Shaodow is back, and we are glad!
 
Like last year, Progressively Less Elephant and Nellie B Page will be getting the night-time party started in the Market Stage, and keep an eye out for a UFO…!
As mentioned previously, we have a number of new stages, including the Veterans and Virgins tent (the best of Truck past and future) and the Saloon – live Americana and Blues in a custom-built structure which has to be seen to be believed!
 
Also new this year, we will be hosting our own (slightly silly) Village Fete on our own Village Green, including the World's Largest Tombola and the Bureau of Silly Sports, as well as rustic farm tours and tractor rides. There will be a Birthday Party on each day for anyone whose birthday it happens to be, Cake Decoration, and prizes for the Best Dressed Trucker, complete with rosettes for the winners!
Family activities will include a fully-stocked Children’s Tent, including music from Nick Cope, and theatrical performances from Oxford Playhouse. Remember, children 12 and under go free, and there is a separate Family camping area, making Truck a great family event.  
 
Our food repertoire has been greatly expanded, with a new Food Hall hosting guest stalls from acclaimed local suppliers such as the Old Farmhouse Bakery and Q Gardens Farm Shop, and serving everything from sushi to steaks to salads. Yum. Our bar will host a Beer Festival with a variety of tasty local ales, while it’s rumoured that The Horrors will be mixing cocktails, Tom Cruise-style, in the Beach Bar after their set!
 
Indeed, whatever your taste, age and persuasion, there is something great going at Truck just for you. Weekend tickets are available now priced £74. These are likely to sell out. No day tickets are or will be available.

The Horrors, The Cribs & The Darkness to headline Y Not Festival

Y Not Festival today announced all its headliners and most of its line-up for this year's festival. It's an eclectic mix of genres: household names and established artists are found next to buzz bands of 2013 and local talent.

On Friday – headlining are The Horrors, supported by the Mystery Jets, Saturday, it's The Cribs, supported by Ash and on Sunday, it's The Darkness, supported by The Enemy.

Also to follow are the announcements for the Allotment Stage – this is the stage which nurtures home-grown talent and gives it the opportunity to bloom. Over 1,700 bands applied via this route and Y Not have dedicated 20 slots to the brightest and best of them.

To help festival goers see as many bands as possible, Y Not has also launched a planner. Accessible via the Y Not website, this nifty piece of software shows at a glance what time they need to be where and when there are clashes between their favoured bands which might test their loyalties.
