DC10 residentJackmaster is next in line, whose eclectic music taste stretches from techno and house right the way through to classic disco and grime.
Back by popular demand is one of house music’s most sought after producers MK, whose ‘Area 10’ heads up Sunday’s VIP village. SW4 2013 Review – Sunday
This year's South West Four or SW4 as its more commonly known as celebrated its tenth year anniversary and had a spectacular lineup to match.
Closing out Sunday night on the main stage was headliner Example. His presence on stage with his live band brought a continued wave of euphoric energy over the grounds of Clapham Common as he kicked off his set with 'Kickstarts'. Bouncing around the stage like an energiser bunny and fresh off a main stage performance at Glastonbury, the sold out 30,000 crowd filled the main arena to wave their hands in the air to tracks 'Won't Go Quietly', 'Stay Awake', 'Watch the Sun Come Up', and his new single 'All the Wrong Places'. Complete with a massive laser display and pyrotechnics showering the Clapham Common grounds, Example sent out this years SW4 in style!
The UKF hosted main arena also had massive sets from SW4 favourites Knife Party, Dutch DJ Nicky Romero, Drum and Bass master Andy C, American Trap sensation Baauer and special guest, the one and only Steve Aoki.
Having recently started a trend of spraying champagne and throwing cakes into the crowd, we were waiting in anticipation for Steve Aoki to hit the stage to see what crazy antics he would bring to the London. Kicking off with his new track, it didn't take long for Aoki to balance himself up on the DJ booth to present to the crowd what looked like an M&S chocolate cake. Pointing a finger out across the crowd, he takes aim and tosses the cake high into the sky, as the crowd disperse to avoid being literally cake faced, the cake splats onto the ground spraying up onto those unfortunately enough to "get a piece". Steve Aoki then topped his set off by running out to the barriers with a bottle of champagne to spray those that were front and centre to complete an entertaining performance.
Earlier on in the day in the Together Arena the iconic Soul II Soul drew an packed out crowd to see Jazzy B and the rest of the troupe. Jazzy B got on the mic to say "Its great to be on this side of the river" as the north Londoner's treated the crowd to tracks like 'Keep on Movin', 'Back to Life', 'Get a Life' and more which kept the fans grooving throughout their hour long set.
The Bedrock arena had special guest and legendary German DJ and producer Sven Vath get the mid afternoon crowd bopping their heads with a typical Vath set full of techno house goodies that you can't help but shake your ass to! Vath is still one of few DJ's that performs with Vinyl and its a pleasure to see this against all the digital DJ's these days.
Also up in the Bedrock arena is flight shy Eric Prydz whose also another SW4 fan favourite. Featured regularly over the years, Prydz never disappoints. His electro infused big room house sound has served him well over the years and this years set at SW4 was one of the best ones yet.
Closing out the Bedrock tent and performing in a Skull like custom made DJ booth is Alex Ridha, who is more famously known as Boyz Noise, a german electronic music producer who brings his lively and innovative live show to SW4. His innovative mix of different genres of music with electronic music makes it easy to understand why he is in huge demand and why his live sets are praised around the world! His energy transcends over the packed tent to ensure that everyone is treated to a special show.
With John Digweed, Pete Tong, Erick Morillo, Dillon Francis, RL Grime, Friction, Crazy P, The 2 Bears and more performing on Sunday it was yet another example that its best not to mess with a formula of bringing one of the biggest dance music lineups to London every Bank Holiday weekend. SW4 have stuck to their roots of doing what they know best, throwing a massive weekender party in a park and have had 10 years of success by doing so. If you haven't ever been to SW4, we recommend you prepare for next year as each year just seems to exceed the previous, see you on the Common in 2014!
South West 4 – Tenth Anniversary
Coming off the back of recent headline performances at Timewarp, We Are FSTVL, Ushuaia Ibiza Opening and the IMS Grand Finale, Sven Väth makes his hugely anticipated return to Clapham Common for South West Four’s 10th Anniversary. Such storming sets continue to seal Sven’s legacy as one of the greatest DJs to ever walk the planet. This summer his Cocoon vision will embark on its fourteenth season at Amnesia Ibiza, with guests including Ricardo Villalobos, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice and Luciano playing across seventeen roadblock events. Sven is a truly iconic figure within the scene and on Sunday 25th August he will be sharing his godly gifts with the more than worthy South West Four crowd. This will be something very special.
Another internationally renowned DJ making their return to SW4 for the 10th Anniversary is Mr VIVa Warrior himself, Steve Lawler. Held in the highest regard by both his peers and his global spread of fans, Steve has held residencies at many of the world’s greatest clubs including Space Ibiza and The End London. He has also released music on highbrow labels such as Cocoon, Souvenir and Drumcode, as well as his own brain child VIVa MUSic. It’s through this imprint, that he has earned a reputation for breaking new talent. With new names to follow in 2013, as well as another 15 weekly parties from June at Sankeys Ibiza, the summer is set to be another stormer for Steve. With this his fourth South West Four performance, we are thrilled to welcome his pounding tribal beats back for another outrageous session of amazing music.

Hurts, Billy Talent and more for Volt Festival
The announcement of new names for VOLT Festival was timed for Valentine’s Day, starting –stylishly- with Bullet for my Valentine. Since the appearance of the band we know that heavy metal exists in Wales and this genre is still among the most popular ones. They know everything about heavy metal that they adopt perfectly in their music by mixing styles of their ancestors and adding aggressive and fast beats with melodic chorus.
The biggest name in this current list is probably Hurts. The romantic and melancholic British synthpop duo has been popular from the very start. Their new album, Exile, will be out 11th March, so in Sopron the duo can test the fanbase live with their new songs.
Canadian punk rock band, Billy Talent, is on the stage for 20 years now being continuously successful for playing massive rock with a hint of punk pop. This year they are not only touring the world with their big hits but playing new songs from their album ‘Dead Silence’ released last autumn.
Papa Roach are true icons of nu metal and this time they will show the crowd in Sopron why they belong to rock history. Their gig is probably one of the most awaited events at this year’s VOLT, where the biggest hits of a generation will be heard.
French DJ Martin Solveig is an outstanding representative of his nation all around the world by making easy-going, sensual and witty dance music. And he’s ready to say Hello to the crowd at Sopron this July.
Dub Fx is not coming to prove anything. He has already shown his unique and outstanding production two years ago at a full-house gig, so it was high time for him to re-visit.
Godfather of techno, Sven Väth, not only makes the audience crazy at underground venues and trendy clubs but this year promises a huge party for VOLT Festival as well.
Fritz Kalkbrenner follows the steps of his techno icon brother by performing at VOLT this summer. The audience and the industry not only knows the German DJ for being the brother of Paul, but for breaking downloading records in online stores and for being a well-known name in the party scene.
Drum’n’bass is back and its most popular name is DJ Fresh who came out with his album Nextlevelism two years ago. The British DJ is not new in clubs. He knows everything about this genre, so we will see what he brings to VOLT: a huge drum’n’bass party or a more danceable night with his well-known tracks.
The Australian Parkway Drive is familiar not only among HC fans but also teen skaters for being heavy and aggressive. It has to be seen and heard with the possible chance of the volume blowing your mind.
Music that comes from Iceland in 2013 is cool. Representing this new trend, Gus Gus will play their sophisticated pop hits this year at VOLT. Their melancholic and frozen-romantic style will probably be very refreshing in the July heat, creating a unique atmosphere at the festival.
Besides the big names, many are interested in the exact location of the 21st VOLT Festival, starting in 4 and half months. The main organizers did not reveal any new information but have confirmed that VOLT will be held in Sopron in 2013 for sure.
For now, check the video for the new names: http://youtu.be/HcrtG0vP4Ls
Sven Väth set for Cocoon in the Park 2012
Set a stone's throw from Leeds city centre, the Cocoon in the Park festival site lies within the grounds of a 450-year-old mansion house surrounded by forests and lakes in a celebrated area of outstanding natural beauty. The historic estate of Temple Newsam once again plays host to an exclusive line-up over one stage led by Cocoon ringmaster Sven Väth with support from Cassy and Visionquest.
The festival site includes various food outlets and bars, a chill-out area and a VIP platform where VIP ticketholders can enjoy views across the site and main stage with access to separate toilets and a bar. The main stage is powered by a Funktion-One PA custom-built by festival sound specialists Audio-Plus and features state of the art pyrotechnics, a live VJ and of course performances from the Cocoon dance troupe. Expect nothing less than the usual breathtaking Cocoon production and top quality soundtrack to one of the most popular and talked about events in the UK.
As for the music, Väth is a ruler of the techno world and has been for decades. With his revered label and club of the same name, Cocoon, he has brought techno to the masses all over the world and, most famously, at Amnesia, Ibiza, since the turn of the millennium. His learned vinyl sets included sounds from a vast remit of techno; incorporate plenty of colours, oomph and dancing bait and, all the while, are served up with a loveable élan and unbridled passion.
And so to next headliner, Cassy… a regular in the best Berlin clubs, as well as places like fabric, she is an upstanding member of the deep house community who has mixed it up for Cocoon and Panorama Bar in the past. Her sets are cultured things, much like her productions on her own labels and others like Perlon, and it’s for that reason that she is so in-demand.
Finally, Visionquest (Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves) will do their unadulterated electronic thing. Little needs to be said of these current scene darlings: their own label has launched an underground pop revolution, they’ve mixed it up for fabric, taken over at WMC and are generally a crew as lovable as they are sonically inventive.
Join Cocoon, System and thousands of like-minded party-goers, then, for what promises to be the ultimate boutique festival experience.

With the mighty Origin Stage at the heart of this area playing host to Nano Records 10th Birthday Party and powered by glorious Funktion 1, this stage will be banging come rain or shine. This year we are more than chuffed to welcome back the Liquid Stage, which will runfrom dusk ‘til dawn in our beautiful new forest area (more on that below…) and playing host to the cream of the UK scene. Providing respite from the onslaught of EDM, no Glade would be complete without InSpiral who this year focuses on chill out with a superb line up to make your journey complete. InSpiral will be laying down the chillout 24hours a day, so if you find it hard to sleep, there’ll always be somewhere to go where the vibes are gentle, the cushions soft and the people magical
This year we also welcome the team that built the incredible Ozora festival over the past seven years. They will be helpingwith the décor and production throughout the Village and much more.
AND THERE’S MORE…
Remix Roller Disco –Home to every kind of remix mash up imaginable, from electro-swing to hoe-step, this venue is going to be full of fun, day and night. With some serious programming from people who are constantly pushing and blurring boundaries of musical genres in the every direction, this is going to be a sight to behold.
Bardcore – The merry pranksters Feast of Fools, a long standing collective who feature at The Secret Garden Party every year, will be bringing not only their mead bar, but also their merry band of players, performers and misfits, who will lead the late night fireside story telling. A beautiful, inclusive and entertaining bunch of characters, expect a mead fueled party of old until the wee hours…
Artful Badger –Another collective from the Garden joining us at glade this year, we welcome the Artful Badgers, feral disco denizens where the party always gets as weird and surreal as it does down right rude and dirty. If you’ve not seen these guys in action, you’re in for a treat…
Extended Licensing – There’s some great news for all those who really love to party. This year, we’ll be opening the doors on the festival at MIDDAY on Thursday, and will have music on a number of stages until MIDNIGHT. We’re also very pleased to announce that a number of our stages will be running until 6am and one until 8am on Saturday and Sunday morning, giving you a proper session.
New Sanctuary – This year, the Sanctuary is evolving. There will of course still be an incredible healing area, with therapists skilled in all the holistic arts – from reiki to massage, acupuncture to reflexology, gong therapy, holistic therapy and all that’s in between. We’re also introducing a spa, consisting of hot tubs, saunas, sweat lodges, changing rooms and more. All brought together in a beautiful area in and out of the trees. This will be a place to relax, indulge yourself and get seriously clean, both inside and out.
Cafés – This year at Glade, we’ve poured a great deal of love into our cafes and food stalls. Places to chill, laugh…and eat cake! We believe cafes are the heart and soul of any independent festival, so this year we’ve gone all out to source some of the best independent traders around. Our food court will be a place to meet your missing friends, take a breather from the madness of the festival, regroup, relax and unwind. With a huge variety of food and drink from all around the world on offer, including many vegetarian and vegan options, we’re looking forward to seeing you there.
Boutique Camping information:
Gladers who fancy treating themselves to a little luxury over the festival can do no better than getting involved in boutique camping. With several packages on offer including tipis, yurts and even Beryl – a three bed Cornish country cottage on wheels – there is no better way to experience Glade. Private facilities, including express parking and festival tickets, come as standard, with each package. For a full range of options as well as booking info check out:

Compost Loos – We’re very pleased indeed to be the first festival of our size in the UK to be running entirely on compost toilets! Compost loos smell less, are more spacious, more environmentally friendly and much less ugly than your average festival portaloo.
