Hot Chip, Magnetic Man and more announced for Lovebox 2012

Magnetic ManThe most iconic names in dubstep, hip-hop, drum & bass, house, techno and indie will team up with some of the capital’s most cherished club nights to deliver a 3 day weekender poised for the musical history books.

London’s biggest dance floor opens early on Friday with Hot Chip, Magnetic Man, Sub Focus Live, and Crystal Castles throwing down the gauntlet alongside a selection of arena hosts that include the return of East London's unstoppable, genre-defining radio station, Rinse 106.8FM¸ and all for a recession busting price of less than £30.

Little time to breathe, as Saturday rolls out an all-encompassing sonic mash up of hipper than thou rockers Friendly Fires, Brit Awards Critic’s Choice Winner Emeli Sandé, Swedish electro hipsters Little Dragon while New York City’s finest are represented in the form of Harlem’s hottest lyricist, Azealia Banks, and back by very popular demand Kelis, whilst the now traditional “Lovebox Legends” slot will be filled by the great Bobby Womack.

The main stages are set against the bone shaking soundscape of drum & bass' number one club night and record label, Hospital Records, plus house and techno institution Warm and international mad-hatters Crosstown Rebels who will be throwing a notorious Rebel Rave .

Patrick WolfOn Sunday things hot up considerably as Lovebox’s incredibly successful polysexual “Out and Out Fierce” party takes over proceedings with hi-energy disco and electro sounds dominating the site.  Holly Johnson takes to the main stage to deliver a “greatest hits” set spanning his days with Frankie Goes to Hollywood through to his solo career. Described by the NME as “the most influential dance act in the world right now” Azari & iii return to Lovebox after their sensational performance last year and there is a debut performance from BBC Sound of 2012 nominee’s Niki & The Dove as well as performances from The Rapture and Patrick Wolf on the Sunday Superstore Live stage hosted by East London’s favourite venue Dalston Superstore.

"By amazing grace I have survived to perform at Lovebox 2012…My first London stage appearance in the 21st Century… Hollylujah!" – Holly Johnson

Meanwhile the many arenas across the site will be working clubbers into a state of submission led by  DJ Hell who will be serving up a final flourish of closing party euphoria on a birthday to remember.

As the after parties across town roll on into Monday, organisers will consider their job done, knowing that Hackney will be left with a lasting legacy of love for 2012.

THE VENUE!

One of the most exciting aspects to what has been happening is the organisers are thrilled to bits about the new venue Houghton Hall. With the last minute venue change there was obviously going to be some concern as to how the local authorities would react. Those concerns have completely disappeared and been replaced by the wonderful fact that all the local responsible authorities, including the police, have been hugely supportive of the event. Sub Focus (live), Tensnake and more for We The People Festival

Drum n’ Bass overlord Sub Focus has been packing dance floors since 2003 and was Pendulum’s warm up DJ on their last tour.  The sheer audaciousness of his maximalist approach is guaranteed to stimulate and stun audiences with dance floor destroying tracks and Bristol is ready for some serious drum n’ bass action.

Hamburg DJ Tensnake’s disco and house inspired floor fillers have made him the stand out DJ on the Nu Disco scene.  Adored by everyone from lovers of 4/4 floorquakers to the quirkiest exponents of dubstep his set is sure to have those who love to dance heading for the South West.

Breaks legends Krafty Kuts and Featurecast team up for a very special show.  Krafty Kuts is widely regarded as one of the world’s best DJ’s, a purveyor of breaks and old-skool hip hop whilst Featurecast has stamped his own twist on the funky breaks scene with magnificent effect.  Expect a truly monumental party set when these two hit the decks for this unique performance.

We The People are thrilled to announce a performance from J-Wow.  Founding member of Buraka Som Sistema, his fierce and funky, bass infused madness mark him out as a truly innovative DJ and his performance is sure to be one of the defining moments of this inaugural festival.

Pioneer of 2Step and UK Garage, MJ Cole will perform tracks from his new record which is already being supported on radio by Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Gilles Peterson as well as club classic ‘Sincere’.

Local promoters and club nights are firmly represented with Bed and The Blast confirmed to host stages on Saturday and Blowpop and local legend Pinch confirmed for Sunday.

Bed is Bristol’s Enchanted Discotheque and the biggest weekly event in the city.  The Blast are the boys behind the monster that is Shit The Bed and too many other nights to mention whilst Blowpop is the longest running club night in the city – and for good reason.

Pinch is the Bristol based DJ, producer and founder of labels Tectonic & Earwax and the Subloaded/Dubloaded events.  Bristol has a history of emerging new producers and new sounds such as Massive Attack, Portishead and Full Cycle – and Pinch has every right to be up there and considered alongside all of them.  His work within the bass and sound-system cultures pretty much lead the way for every other dubstep and bass music producer in Bristol today.

We The People are also thrilled to announce a host of local artists, DJ’s and MC’s, showcasing the ever thriving and evolving Bristol music scene.
