Toolroom Knights celebrate 10th Anniversary at SW4

Kicking off with new additions to Saturday’s bill, we can reveal that joining the lineup on 24th August will be SW4 favourite Mark Knight and more!  Mark Knight, his world renowned label Toolroom Records also celebrates a decade of existence this summer with the main focus of the imprints euphoric festivities to be experienced at South West Four. Toolroom last hosted an arena at SW4 back in 2010, when their stage proved one of the most popular of the weekend. This year it takes another bounding leap forwards as it promises to be a hotspot of the festival once again. A fine selection of esteemed artists, Toolroom Records 10th Anniversary at SW4 2013 hosts some of the greatest names in house music, side by side with the planet’s freshest talent. Let’s do this…

ANNOUNCED FOR SW4 SATURDAY!

SOLOMUN
DENNIS FERRER · FRITZ KALKBRENNER
CAJMERE · TOCADISCO
TRISTAN INGRAM
SPECIAL GUEST: TENSNAKE

Mark Knight makes a welcome return to South West Four in 2013. This will be his fourth performance in the past five years in fact, with the Toolroom Records governor and Grammy nominated producer one of the first names on our 10th Anniversary hit list. In 2010 Mark hosted a Toolroom Knights arena at SW4, whilst in 2009 and 2012 he drew massive crowds to the main stage. In 2013 Mark returns to celebrate Toolroom Records’ 10th Anniversary with a showcase featuring some of the finest names in house music. As a DJ Mark constantly sets the pace and is recognised worldwide for his long standing residencies at cherished haunts such as Space Ibiza and Ministry of Sound. A key fixture at the festival in recent years we are delighted to welcome Mark and Toolroom back to South West Four.

Mark Knight @ SW4

Always ranking high on any DJ list that matters, Solomun is one of the most in-demand DJs of recent times. Named 2012 ‘DJ of the year’ by Mixmag, the Hamburg based producer has been making huge waves with his unique and modern blend of house and techno. The Diynamic imprint which he founded has allowed Solomun to spread his name yet further, which is set to be elevated to a whole new level this summer via his ‘Solomun +1’ residency at Pacha Ibiza. Making his SW4 debut this year, Solomun is simply a must see.

Dennis Ferrer is house music’s most innovative producer. It’s safe to say that the New York icon and founder of Objektivity Records has seen a number of musical trends come and go, some even in full circles, yet he has managed to stay close to his roots for the whole period. Aside from finding commercial success through his genre-defining track ‘Hey Hey’, the Grammy nominated DJ and producer manages to find time to nurture a host of underground talent through his own Objektivity imprint. Having headlined Defected’s sell out show last New Years Eve at Electric Brixton, Dennis returns to the Big Smoke to make his long awaited SW4 bow. See you at the front.

German producer Fritz Kalkbrenner grew up on a strict diet of hip-hop and soul and subsequently missed the techno craze that swept the nation after the fall of the Berlin wall.  It wasn’t until the mid 90’s that he was fully introduced to techno by his brother Paul and is now finding success as a pioneer of the Tech- Soul sound he is famed for producing. Fritz released his debut album ‘Here Today Gone Tomorrow’ in 2010, a silky sophisticated techno album with plenty of soul elements and has since blossomed out of the shadow of his older sibling. Late 2012 saw the release of his sophomore effort ‘Sick Travellin’, which has taken him down a more house driven avenue. This will be another SW4 debut that is guaranteed to take the Common by storm.

Hailing from Chicago, a city that has a rich history as the birthplace of house music, Cajmere followed in his father’s footsteps by DJing and producing his own tracks. He soon found himself leaving his Chemical Engineering degree behind and focusing solely on music and instantly found fame through the now classic ‘Coffee Pot’. 2012 was the 20th anniversary of his Cajual Records label and through the label off-shoot ‘Relief’ he also released music from his flamboyant and often darker infused alter ego Green Velvet. With this performance being Curtis Jones’ first ever on our hallowed turf as Cajmere, we can’t wait to hear the chants of “It’s time for the percolator!”

Hailing from deepest, darkest Cologne, Roman Boer has been making deep and tech house for the best part of fifteen years. Better known by his stage name Tocadisco, the German maestro has remixed over one hundred artists including Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Moby and Tiga to name a few. You would have unquestionably heard Tocadisco’s music featured on TV ads, whilst his radio show is broadcast to over fifty countries. His own imprint TOCA45, showcases the freshest sounding club tracks available today and with this appearance being his only London festival show this year, make sure you get to his tent with plenty of time to spare.

Finally joining us as very special guest in the Toolroom Records stage is Marco Niemerski, widely celebrated as Tensnake. Hailing from Hamburg and raised on a diet of 80‘s boogie and disco, Tensnake is a name that has been permanently etched on our minds after the gargantuan success of ‘Coma Cat’. The infectious melody and honey-like loveliness of this joyful single helped shape our summer of 2010. Never one to bask in the glory of a single triumph, Tensnake went on to release the equally catchy ‘Something About You’ and more recently ‘Mainline’, which managed to bring light to the darkest of dance floors. With an album finished and scheduled for release later this year, we welcome Tensnake’s to the terrain of Clapham Common for the first time, as he brings the sunshine to South West Four.

Duke Dumont, Mark Knight & many more added to Creamfields lineup

Creamfields have announced a host of fresh new acts to their already incredible line-up for this year’s festival including Duke Dumont, Mark Knight, Chris Lake, Michael Woods, T Williams, Doorly, Stefano Noferini, Just Blaze, Danny Howard, Claptone, Albin Myers, DJ Fusion, DJ Punish, P Money, Scrufizzer, Linguistics, SP:MC, SGT Pokes, Stamina MC and many more.

Fresh off the back of his first number 1 single, we’re pleased to announce that Duke Dumont will not only be kicking the party off on Friday in the Snatch Arena but will be keeping it going on to Saturday when he joins the Annie Mac Presents Arena bill.

If seven arenas and two stages weren’t enough for Saturday we’re pleased to announce that Mark Knight will be bringing his Toolroom Arena imprint to Creamfields for the first time.

Toolroom hits ten this year and to celebrate they’re bringing together some of the biggest house stars of the moment including Rising Music’s Chris Lake and his ‘Black Thong’ collaborating partner Michael Woods plus Doorly, Radio 1’s Danny Howard, and Stefano Noferini.

Another act joining Saturday’s bill is producer Just Blaze, best known for his work with Jay Z and his recently released collaboration with Baauer  ‘Higher’. Just Blaze has been added to the Skream & Benga Presents Arena along with Skream and Magnetic Man’s’s official MC SGT Pokes and 2011’s D&BArena Awards 'Best MC' SP:MC.

Other highlights include Rinse FM’s T.Williams, who is signed to one of the hottest labels of the moment, PMR, home to Julio Bashmore and Jessie Ware. Last year he was named one of Time Out’s ‘DJ Stars of 2012’ and his remix of Javeon McCarthy’s ‘Lost Time’ was made Record of the Week on BBC Radio 1 so we’re expecting nothing but big things for this artist in 2013.

We also welcome Friction’s friends P Money, Scrufizzer and Linguistics, Shy FX’s MC, Stamina MC, upcoming DJ/producer Albin Myers, the enigmatic Claptone who has conquered dancefloors with his track aptly named ‘Cream’, Speakerbox resident DJ Fusion, Dutch house DJ/Producer DJ Punish plus the Cream residents Paul Bleasdale, Anthony ProbynJemmy along with Alan Hartley.

This year Creamfields have pulled together one of their biggest line-ups to date with headline performances from The Prodigy, AVICII, Tiësto, David Guetta, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso,  Above & Beyond, Eric Prydz, Knife Party, Paul van Dyk, Groove Armada, Pete Tong, Annie Mac, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Sub Focus, Afrojack, Alesso, Marco Carola, Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Laidback Luke, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, NERVO, Solomun, AlunaGeorge, Madeon, Sasha, Julio Bashmore, Maceo Plex, Eats Everything, Baauer, Jackmaster, Redlight and Maya Jane Coles.

Afrojack, Paul Oakenfold, Groove Armada and more added to SW4

ANNOUNCED FOR SW4 SATURDAY

AFROJACK
PAUL OAKENFOLD · MARK KNIGHT
ORJAN NILSEN · TOCADISCO

He is a double Grammy Award winning, platinum selling producer. A chart topping, crowd slaying icon. And he is unquestionably one of the most in demand DJs on the planet. South West Four is delighted to confirm the addition of Afrojack to our 10th Anniversary lineup. Debuting on Clapham Common on Saturday 24th August, the Dutch phenomenon’s skills are some of the most sought after in the world. He has worked alongside Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga and David Guetta, whilst his own tracks each amass millions of views on YouTube. With all this success it has allowed him to form his own imprint ‘Wall Recordings’ giving him a platform to release his own material and provide a stepping stone to upcoming artists. Our advice to you? Take this rare chance to catch Afrojack perform in the capital, his first since last summer and his only London festival performance of 2013.

Afrojack

With a career spanning three decades and showing no signs of slowing down, Paul Oakenfold is the elite statesman of British electronic music. From residencies in Las Vegas to jaw dropping spectacles on each and every continent, Oakie’s colossal fanbase travel the world to catch one of his sets. Luckily for you, we have him back at South West Four for the first time since his emotional homecoming back in 2010. Never afraid of pushing boundaries, Paul has enjoyed countless standout moments during his incredible career including help shape the infamous ‘Madchester’ scene of the late 80s, produce an album for U2 and pioneer the explosion of dance music in America. At one point Paul even lived in Clapham, making his return to South West Four for our 10th Anniversary more significant than ever.

Mark Knight makes a welcome return to South West Four in 2013. This will be his fourth performance at SW4 in the past five years in fact, with the Toolroom Records governor and Grammy nominated producer one of the first names on our 10th Anniversary hit list. In 2010 Mark hosted a Toolroom Knights stage at SW4, whilst in 2009 and 2012 he drew massive crowds to the main stage. In 2013 Mark returns to one of our indoor arenas to present some of the finest names in house music. As a DJ Mark constantly sets the pace and is recognised worldwide for his long standing residencies at cherished haunts such as Space Ibiza and Ministry of Sound. A key fixture at the festival in recent years we are delighted to welcome Mark back to South West Four.

Orjan Nilsen is a Norwegian DJ and producer who grew up well north of the polar circle, far away from most things. His cultured productions however would suggest he grew up somewhere with a far more accessible music scene. The talented young Scandinavian shot to the worlds attention in 2011 when he stormed into the DJ Mag top 100 chart at #49 and a IDMA nomination for ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’ soon followed. Since then has gone on to gain support from SW4 favourites Gareth Emery and Armin van Buuren, with the aptly named ‘Belter’ a collaboration with the latter. Known for his flawless ability to bring life to any dance floor, we welcome him to South West Four for the first time in 2013 as he plays to the biggest dance floor of them all.

You would have unquestionably heard Tocadisco’s music featured on TV ads, whilst his radio show is broadcasted to over fifty countries. His own imprint TOCA45, showcases the freshest sounding club tracks available today and with this appearance being his only London festival show this year, make sure you get to his tent with plenty of time to spare.

            ANNOUNCED FOR SW4 SUNDAY

GROOVE ARMADA
TOTALLY ENORMOUS
EXTINCT DINOSAURS
PETE TONG
THE 2 BEARS
· DUSKY

Here at SW4 HQ we have had our feathers ruffled by the fact that Groove Armada are at long last making their South West Four debut. Marking this as their first London festival performance outside of Lovebox in over a decade, Andy Cato and Tom Findlay are the Cambridge-come-London brigade who have certainly seen it and done it all over the last eighteen years. In that time they have managed to run club nights, conceptualise festivals and not to mention release eight studio albums. Those LPs  have been jam-packed full of bonafide hits, like the Grammy nominated ‘Superstylin’, which was shortlisted on Mixmag’s ‘Greatest Dance Track of All Time’ poll, to the harmoniously utopian ‘At the River’ which comprehensively appears on every chill out compilation known to man. File this appearance under ‘for the history books’…

Groove Armada`

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (or TEED if you feel the need to abbreviate) is one of the most fascinating, over-the-top British talents to emerge in recent years. Having released an EP through Greco-Roman (partially run by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip / The 2 Bears), TEED subsequently got picked up by label giant Polydor to release his first full length album ‘Trouble’ last summer. Orlando Higginbottom, as he is known to his nearest and dearest, is an artist who’s always on point in the studio, with productions that fluctuate between jungle rhythms and dance floor anthems with pop sensibilities. His unique style has perked up the ears of club goers and producing peers alike, so join us at South West Four for his spectacular live show. Expect glitter, dancers, extravagant head-wear and of course, dinosaurs.

Pete Tong: the world’s undisputed ambassador for electronic music. It’s quite a title, but one that is whole heartily deserved. Having been broadcasting on BBC Radio 1 since 1991, he has become widely acclaimed across the world as the tastemaker for dance music. Pete fell in love with a fresh new sound coming out of USA in the late 80’s and blazed a trail championing the sound. Fast-forward 20 plus years and things have come full circle, with nothing more relevant right now than electronic music – and Pete's position as anchor for brand new USA radio station Evolution, with a show that's broadcast daily across the country is testament to that. Pete has an astounding flair to break new talent; he’s helped kick start the careers of hundreds of artists, giving them the infamous ‘Pete Tong Push’. Now in 2013, with a brand new high profile Ibizan residency soon to be announced, regular trips to the states for high profile gigs, and a global touring schedule to make your eyes water, not to mention single, remix and compilation releases abound, Pete has never been more important. A real favourite at the festival, we welcome him back to South West Four for another essential performance!

The 2 Bears comprises of Joe Goddard, one fifth of the inimitable Hot Chip and Raf Rundell, a man who has played an integral role in running London’s clubbing scene for many years. Formed in 2009, the pair shared a musical vision and decided the next logical step was to start producing tracks together. Their debut album ‘Be Strong’ came out last year on Southern Fried Records, a hugely enjoyable homage to UK garage and Detroit flavours and filled to the brim with playful melodies and love-able lyrics. With Joe back on Hot Chip duties last summer, this year marks the bears coming out of hibernation, with Clapham Common the only woods you’ll find them in London this August.

London based producers Alfie Granger-Howell and Nick Harriman are the eclectic pairing known as Dusky. The duo already have a long list of accolades to their name including their 2011 LP ‘Stick By This’ being named Pete Tongs album of the year and ‘Flo Jam’ being given the crown of iTunes Dance Single of the Year. Last year they remixed Justin Martin’s seemingly untouchable ‘Don’t Go’ and put out a buffed out version that sent blogs and forums into chaos. Needless to say it was hands down the soundtrack of the winter. With their latest offering ‘Nobody Else’ out now on Will Saul’s AUS imprint shaping up to be just as much of a hit, the future sound of London seems safe in Dusky’s more than capable hands.

Gareth Emery, Mark Knight, 2 Many DJs, Eric Prydz, Sasha & More for SW4

Hence no surprise that ticket sales for both days have soared to record breaking levels. Further affirming the thrill enticed by these announcements so far, Saturday 'super saver' tickets have now completely sold out and increased in price, with Sunday not far behind.

With the next round of artist additions set to commence ‘Phase 2’ of the SW4 2012 lineup, tickets will soon be in even more demand. For if ‘Phase 1’ was the Clapham hors d’oeuvre, ‘Phase 2’ is the sumptuous SW4 main course. August Bank Holiday will never be the same again; Bon appétit!

ADDED TO SW4 DAY ONE: SAT 25TH AUGUST

BENNY BENASSI · GARETH EMERY · MARK KNIGHT
JORIS VOORN · FUNKAGENDA

Benny BenassiFirst up for the Saturday is the brilliant Benny Benassi. Since he gave the world ‘Satisfaction’ with his immortal anthem, the iconic Italian has added more strings to his musical bow –moving away from the misconceptions of many. Only the most creative could transform a hip hop rite of passage, into an electro house monster.  Exactly the case with Public Enemy’s ‘Bring The Noise,’ bagging a coveted Grammy award for ‘Best Dance Remix.’ A permanent fixture in the upper echelons of DJ Mag’s Top 100, Benassi’s cheeky re-work of Marshall Jefferson’s classic ‘Move Your Body’, is odds on to be the 2012 summer scorcher.

Expect a host of fresh new music from Gareth Emery, the Garuda God who needs no introduction amongst the SW4 fraternity. Charting at #13, Gareth is another of the leading artists in the Top 100 and returns this year for the first time since his storming debut in 2010. Poignant new track ‘Concrete Falls’ looks set to eclipse the landmark success of the sacred ‘Sanctuary’ and will no doubt entice all arms aloft on Clapham Common.  Ever since the lush chords of ‘Mistral’ announced him to the world, an unwavering, uplifting outlook earmarks this as a truly standout performance.

Mark Knight’s mercurial sound has not only propelled his revered imprint to world domination but represented a pioneering electronic sound. Blurring the boundaries between the mainstream and underground, it never fails to tantalise an ever increasing fan base.  It’s why the packed global itinerary of Toolroom’s top dog sells out each pulsating party weeks in advance. His headline slot at Toolroom Knight’s 5th Birthday at O₂ Academy Brixton proved one of the performances of last year, whilst Toolroom’s Miami showcase quickly became THE talk of WMC 2012. After a year’s SW4 hiatus, the Toolroom Knight is just what Clapham’s house heads have yearned for.

Also true of Funkagenda. A home grown vivacious talent, whose unchartered rise to fame has been no less impressive. That ‘Man With The Red Face’ collaboration with Knight scooped every award going, enhancing Laurent Garnier’s classic with a captivating production nous. Achieving the delicate balance between tough and melodic, this acquired skill led to specific remix requests from Basement Jaxx and Fatboy Slim amongst others. Harnessing the experience from being signed to Toolroom meant Funkagenda was able to fly the nest with supersonic speed! Culminating in his acclaimed ‘Funk Farm’ label, earning a sought after Ministry Of Sound residency. He is certainly at the front of our minds when it comes to quality house music at South West Four.

Finally for Saturday it’s Dutch trailblazer Joris Voorn. Commended for his ever evolving ethos, a host of radical releases have crafted a lasting legacy. A prolific producer who always strives to engulf the senses, look no further than his outstanding edit of Nalin and Kane’s summer smash ‘Beachball.’ Joris has prospered where others have failed, by enhancing the original into an underground spell of wizardry.  Also possessing magical properties, Voorn’s now legendary ‘Balance 014’ compilation eloquently combined 100 tracks into a double CD. This demonstrated a rare talent responsible for securing headline slots at We Love at Space Ibiza and Awakenings.

ADDED TO SW4 DAY TWO: SUN 26TH AUGUST

2 MANY DJS (DJ SET) · ERIC PRYDZ · SASHA
SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO (DJ SET) · EROL ALKAN

Deep breath, moving onto Sunday. You can never have too much of 2 Many DJs, the DJ manifestation of sensational production duo Soulwax.  With an inherent eclectic nature, it’s this ‘expect the unexpected’ prophecy that has wowed their devout fans.  Count Zane Lowe as one, after playing their Arcade Fire remix of ‘Sprawl II’ on his Radio 1 show. A brilliant realisation of the ‘2 Many’ concept, it re-vitalised this indie rock original with vintage disco and electro-glitch galore. It is by this ethos that the Belgian musicians headline the world’s leading festivals and club nights and with which we are delighted to present their SW4 debut this year.

Eric PrydzCrashing SW4 last year as the enigmatic Cirez D, Eric Prydz prides himself in all things house. His ground breaking ‘Mouseville’ imprint caters for those darker productions, such as the infectious hook from ‘On Off’, whereas the ‘Pryda’ label and namesake tracks encompass the more melodic side, but no less compelling. Hence with this wide ranging spectrum the Swede’s polished performances were always one of club land’s great wonders. Then ‘Eric Prydz In Concert’ came along, superseding all before in EPIC fashion. After selling out the mammoth Brixton Academy, Alexandra Palace and Amnesia Ibiza last year, it’s a privilege for SW4 to welcome Eric Prydz raw and in the flesh.

The mighty Sasha returns also, to sweep Sunday off its feet. The DJ powerhouse, whose illustrious twenty five year career incorporates some of the most memorable moments in SW4 history, is now fully entrenched into Clapham folklore. An undying thirst for innovation has meant that Sasha has always dictated the pace, since establishing himself with pioneering Renaissance and Global Underground associations. Utilising the latest technology enables Sasha to connect with the dancefloor like no other. His inimitable atmospheric sound captivated last summer’s ‘Never Say Never’ Ibiza parties, attracting four thousand connoisseurs each week!  Sasha’s transcendental synths are set to mesmerise SW4 once again.

Erol Alkan’s lasting impact on London’s club scene makes him a huge draw at SW4. As founder of trend setting night Trash at The End (RIP) and its anything goes policy, Erol has received worldwide adulation for his unique fusion of tech, electro, pop and rock. Anything that holds a beat is well within the Alkan domain, yielding classics which are sure to be SW4 favourites! Ask the loyal pilgrims who flock to Bugged Out! and Fabric on each momentous occasion.  As the immortal saying goes, Erol Alkan ‘keeps kids dancing.’

Having worked with Florence and the Machine and The Arctic Monkeys, Simian Mobile Disco are another devastating dance act joining us at SW4 2012. SMD’s spin on unconventional genres, equates to a defining festival experience. SW4 will be a perfect platform to tease exclusive material from their new ‘Delicacies’ label, best summed up by delicious new track ‘Seraphim.’ Simian Mobile Disco make their eagerly anticipated return to London, after last year’s breathtaking SW4 and Together Winter Music Festival appearances. With both occasions cultivating a riotous atmosphere, the duo are tailor made for Clapham debauchery.
