The legendary and SW4 regular Sasha joins the SW4 bill along with SW4 first time performers, Jamie Jones and Magda.
A man who needs absolutely no introduction joins the Clapham Common festivities for the very first time in 2014, as Jamie Jones finally makes his South West Four debut. Widely regarded as the leader of the new house sound that has dominated dancefloors worldwide over the past five years, Jamie’sslick and sexy adaptation of the 4×4 beat has resulted in his rapid catapault to global superstardom. Jamie’s pioneering sound has been instrumental in the success of his cross genre band Hot Natured and iconic label Hot Creations. This, along with his role as the face of Ibiza’s seminal nightclub DC10, has paved the way for a warmer and more melodic side of techno to emerge. Adding to this the recent launch of his second label HOTTRAX, plus his superb ‘Planets and Spaceships’ EP and its clear that Jamie joins us at SW4 at the very pinnacle of his career.
A true SW4 legend makes his welcome return in 2014. That legend is Sasha. Having previously headlined South West Four three times (more than any other artist), Sasha’s exploits on Clapham Common are the stuff of folklore. His unrivalled ability to evolve and adapt to the ever changing world of electronic music has resulted in his international reputation as one of the greatest DJs to have ever walked the planet. The past twelve months have seen Sasha demonstrate his ground-breaking status further through the release of Involv3r, recently nominated for Beatport’s Album of the Year, a Mixmag front coverand a simply unforgettable headline appearance on New Years Eve at Brixton Academy as part of his Last Night Night On Earth label takeover. With recent standout performances serving to raise the benchmark of Sasha’s genius even further, we look forward to welcoming back one of SW4’s favourite sons with open arms.

Lazarus has been a central driving force in the world domination of second-wave house thanks to a truly exceptional ear for the sound, prevalent in his skills as Crosstown’s chief A&R and the stellar line-ups that assemble at his highly acclaimed Day Zero festival in Mexico. Ever evolving, unsurpassed in his feel for the depth of the music, Damian is a headliner set to surprise. There aren’t many DJs who’ve received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor but Damian Lazarus is definitely one of them. Another veteran, for over ten years Cassy has developed her craft through an outstanding body of work, releasing on seminal labels such as Ostgut Ton, Perlon, Playhouse and Cocoon. Joining Damian & Cassy is self-proclaimed ‘House Gangster’ DJ Sneak. A true pioneer, not only is he one of the scene’s most revered figures but after 30 years at the top of his game, continues to redefine house music with a steady string of releases. Original mistress of the dancefloor and BBC Radio 1 resident Heidi is notorious for her explosive sets, her natural ability to connect with the audience and obvious joy at sharing the music she loves, makes her perfect choice to keep the party pumping. Having recently launched his own label Purp & Soul, 2014 looks tipped to be his biggest year yet. Award-winning Frenchman Noir has been making waves for over a decade. With a keen ear for music, his label of the same name has seen releases from the likes of Solomun, Deetron, Sub-ann, Tiefschwars, Laura Jones and Hot Since 82. Dancefloor pounding sets will also come from Hotflush’s mysterious techno duo Dense & Pika, Ejeca with his trademark vocal driven emotive sound, the sumptuously groovy Josh Butler and Leftwing & Kody – two of the most revered DJs on London’s underground house circuit today.
NoFitState will present a line-up that explores the tension between house and techno with legendary minimal producer Magda and Mobilee’s Anja Schneider both taking headline slots. With further releases set to drop in the coming months he continues to gain momentum as an artist of international repute and summer 2014 will see him rise to the challenge with his own series of events on the White Isle. Echo are delighted to reveal their second wave of artists for 2013, they include the former first lady of M_nus – a driving force behind twenty-first century Techno, and a trio of some of the world’s most remarkable live performance DJs.
Magda is an artist who can never be pinned down, no matter the timeframe or time signature. Any one of the Detroit-raised artist’s sets or productions breed a rare feel of mystique and discovery. Her accidental entry into Detroit’s underground party scene as a teenager was the kick-start she needed for a lifelong love affair. In 1998, she joined M_nus and began touring the world as Richie Hawtin’s sole opener. Stylistically, Magda grooves through opposition – creating sets that are emotion-led yet clinical, having profound expertise with analogue and digital technology. Her sound is otherworldly but visceral; dark with a warm sense of beauty and grace. Magda’s DJing style has been encapsulated on her mix for London club Fabric ‘Fabric 49′ (a mix CD with as much artistry and vision as an original album). Magda’s label, ‘Items & Things’, always pinpoints the off-kilter and the uncommon, seeking out new artists and sounds that push boundaries.
We would tell you all about Redshape, but no one knows who he actually is. He hides his real identity behind a red mask at all times, even wearing it onstage at his club dates around Europe, which of late there have been many. We do know the man behind the mask lives in Berlin, he does a rocking live act and he's released half a dozen tracks over the last year or so on labels such as Delsin and Music Man. We also can reveal he has studied a lot of old Detroit techno records: His sound is a new update on old school templates, and it's getting a thorough rinsing by DJs as diverse as Laurent Garnier, Josh Wink, Âme and Cassy.
John Roberts creates music that is meticulous and loose, evocative and innovative. Raised in the so-called heart of America, John's parents exposed him to classical and jazz music at an early age and encouraged his fifteen-year training on drums and violin. As he began to gain interest in contemporary European house and techno, John began working with analog synthesizers, antiquated sequencing software, and reel-to-reel tape machines. In 2008 Roberts was asked by Carsten Jost, Pantha Du Prince, and Lawrence to be the first American artist on their influential Dial Records imprint. The 2010 release of his debut album, “Glass Eights”, cemented his position as one of electronic music’s top innovators. 2013 will see the release of his second album, “Fences”.
Joining them will be Toi Toi featuring: Audio Werner, Voigtmann and Lamache.Audio Werner has made a great contribution to underground electronic music not only as a producer and DJ, but also as a live performer. During the past year he has been concentrating on his new live set that he performed for the first time at ‘Get Perlonized’ at Panorama Bar in November 2012 proving to be a huge success. He will debut this highly regarded live performance at Echo Festival 2013 this summer.
