The legendary and SW4 regular Sasha joins the SW4 bill along with SW4 first time performers, Jamie Jones and Magda.
A man who needs absolutely no introduction joins the Clapham Common festivities for the very first time in 2014, as Jamie Jones finally makes his South West Four debut. Widely regarded as the leader of the new house sound that has dominated dancefloors worldwide over the past five years, Jamie’sslick and sexy adaptation of the 4×4 beat has resulted in his rapid catapault to global superstardom. Jamie’s pioneering sound has been instrumental in the success of his cross genre band Hot Natured and iconic label Hot Creations. This, along with his role as the face of Ibiza’s seminal nightclub DC10, has paved the way for a warmer and more melodic side of techno to emerge. Adding to this the recent launch of his second label HOTTRAX, plus his superb ‘Planets and Spaceships’ EP and its clear that Jamie joins us at SW4 at the very pinnacle of his career.
A true SW4 legend makes his welcome return in 2014. That legend is Sasha. Having previously headlined South West Four three times (more than any other artist), Sasha’s exploits on Clapham Common are the stuff of folklore. His unrivalled ability to evolve and adapt to the ever changing world of electronic music has resulted in his international reputation as one of the greatest DJs to have ever walked the planet. The past twelve months have seen Sasha demonstrate his ground-breaking status further through the release of Involv3r, recently nominated for Beatport’s Album of the Year, a Mixmag front coverand a simply unforgettable headline appearance on New Years Eve at Brixton Academy as part of his Last Night Night On Earth label takeover. With recent standout performances serving to raise the benchmark of Sasha’s genius even further, we look forward to welcoming back one of SW4’s favourite sons with open arms.
Conistently cherished as the world’s finest and most infleuntial female DJ, Magda makes her SW4 debut in 2014. The Detroit-raised artist joined the M_Nus family back in 1998, soon establishing herself as one of the most revered DJs in the world today. Her performances alongside long standing friend Richie Hawtin have obliterated the world’s leading clubs and festivals for over a decade and we look forward to similar wild scenes at SW4. Now steering her own label Items& Things along with co-owners Troy Pierce & Marc Houle, the imprint has provided an ideal platform for many other world class producers toshowcase their sound. As an artist that prides herself on developing within such a fast-paced scene, her constand demand has led to one of the most impressive touring schedules around. South West Four get ready to be blown away by Magda.

Having spent the last decade as an integral force shaping the South Coast music scene, Junk Department reveal game changing plans for their next chapter. On Saturday 3rd May they pitch up at Hampshire’s Stoneham Park with a bonafide circus big top that will play host to some of electronic music’s hottest talents, unleashing twelve hours of dancefloor pounding sets from the likes of Jamie Jones, Maya Jane Coles, Dyed Soundorom, Laura Jones and Detroit Swindle for the biggest party the South has ever seen.
Topping the bill is Jamie Jones, infamous founder of this decades inescapable house institution, Hot Creations and one quarter of smash-hit live act Hot Natured. From humble beginnings playing after hours sessions in dark basements of London’s underground scene to headlining some of the biggest festivals around the globe including Sonar, Movement Detroit and Eastern Electrics JJ’s meteoric rise to fame is something for the history books. First spinning tunes for Junk back in 2009 it is with immeasurable excitement they welcome the return of the world dominating Jamie Jones to their line up.
Joining the deep house juggernaut is pint-sized producer Maya Jane Coles. The past three years have seen her rising up through the house rankings from underground sensation to global star. Her hotly anticipated debut album ‘Comfort’ was released last summer to rave reviews, yielding two of 2013’s biggest dancefloor anthems ‘Everything’ and ‘Burning Bright’.
Adding his distinctive sound to the mix is one-third Apollonian, one hundred percent underground maestro, Dyed Soundorom. Having carved a fierce reputation for deep, disco tinged productions, his label Apollonia which he runs in partnership with fellow Frenchmen Shonky and Dan Ghenacia has quickly become one of the most relevant outputs in today’s underground music culture.
Laura Jones is another lady not to be messed with. Not even three years strong into her career and already a name that resonates across the globe, her contributions to some of the most exciting labels including Visionquest and Leftroom have, in a matter of months, helped to solidify her position as one of the hottest artists on the scene right now, with regular slots at Circoloco @ DC10 and Fabric.
Joining the hefty programme of house elite are the fresh talents of Detroit Swindle. The honoree Detroiters-via-Amsterdam duo who have already played at some of the world’s most respected venues in the form of Berlin’s Tresor and Panorama Bar with tracks on their own Heist Recordings as well as Tsuba, Freerange and Dirt Crew.
In typical Junk Department style, the 5000 capacity circus big top will feature excellent production, sound and lighting as well as numerous bars and food outlets, professionally managed toilet facilities and a full fun fair making for one hell of a start to the summer!
Junk Departments Big Top marks the start of a new chapter in Junk’s story. One that will see them expand beyond the shores of their beloved Southampton to stage some of 2014’s most exciting events at music meccas around the world including Ibiza, Amsterdam, Berlin and London. Remain vigilant for further details coming in then next few weeks and month…
Known by most for thundering main-stage sets that leave audiences trembling with excitement and exhausted from relentless dancing, Hot Creations have become firm festival favourites in recent years, but the story began nearly a decade ago in dark basements and dusty warehouses of East London. Jamie Jones and Ali Love first performed for Eastern Electrics organisers back in 2005. Five years later Jamie Jones’ infamous collaboration with Seth Troxler and Damian Lazurus at EENYE 2010 remains a point of reference in the history of the escalating underground house scene. Looking to the future, they continue to push boundaries with the launch of new project, Hot Natured LIVE. This audio-visual spectacular sees the distinctive vocal stylings of Ali Love as front-man on lead guitar while Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Luca C unleash a veritable arsenal of synths, keyboards and pads to a multitude of lasers carving through crowds of uplifted hands. Continuing the alliance from modest beginnings, it is with particular poignancy that Hot Natured LIVE will headline Eastern Electrics Festival main stage on Saturday August 3rd.
With a program that reads more like a catalogue than a line-up, further artists have been announced across the weekend’s festivities. Paco Osuna started smashing dancefloors in his hometown Barcelona, quickly gaining attention from industry leaders with releases on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8, residency at Ibiza’s Amnesia and place within the inner circle of Sven Vath’s Cocoon. Visionquest’s Shaun Reeves joins Friday’s billing while close consorts Tale Of Us will bring their deep, soulful sounds to Eastern Electrics’ arena on Saturday. Techno rebel Surgeon takes to the stage for LWE and Desolat powerhouse tINI completes Just Jack’s arena. Unstoppable garage-house duo Bicep will take to the main stage early on Friday for eager revelers.
With the UK’s biggest ever house and techno line-up in place, tantalizing details have begun to emerge of the wider festival production. Rumours of an Electric City offering a world of escape including roller disco, maze, dressing-up boudoir and plenty of surprises for those willing to explore. A 24 hour arena with cinema, bars and cafés will provide around the clock reprieve. In addition to the usual festival décor, an electric theme will run throughout the festival with a network of LEDs to beacon party-goers around the site.
Festival Director Rob Star said:
“Having been friends with Jamie and Ali Love for the best part of 10 years and Luca C and Lee Foss more recently, I was so pleased to confirm them as one of the headline acts at our first weekend event. The boys are all incredibly talented musicians and know exactly what it takes to move a dancefloor, as well as how to party! The fact that they have recently sold out 2 shows at Brixton academy, shows just how popular their sound is and I can't wait to see them close the main outdoor stage at Eastern Electrics on the Saturday night.”
Organisers of The Parklife Weekender can finally reveal that the fourth instalment of the festival will be relocating to Manchester's Heaton Park in 2013. Widely regarded as one of the premier outdoor venues in the north of England, Heaton Park has hosted legendary concerts from the likes of The Stone Roses and Oasis. Parklife Weekender organisers are also delighted to announce an additional four artists including Melbourne four-piece The Temper Trap, as well as exciting artists Baauer, Boddika, Breakbot and TEED (DJ set) who will also be playing live. Parklife Weekender takes place on 8th and 9th June 2013 and signals the start of the UK's summer of music. With weekend tickets priced at only £69.50 the Parklife Weekender it is arguably the best value for money festival in the UK this year. For tickets please visit www.parklife.uk.com
The phenomenal success of The Parklife Weekender has seen the festival grow year-on-year since its inception and resulted in Platt Fields Park no longer being big enough to accommodate the event. 2013 will see a wider spread of music and entertainment including larger dance arenas, more spectacular production and many hidden nooks and crannies ensuring the biggest ParklifeWeekender ever staged.
Parklife Weekender Organiser, Sam Kandel says; "We are very lucky that no other large scale events have been planned for the site this year, so that Parklife Weekender is able to work with Manchester City Council for what is our biggest and best festival yet. The Parklife team are very proud to see this years festival at Heaton Park – it definitely feels like 2013 is going to be a key moment in Parklife Weekenders history."
Councillor Nigel Murphy, executive member for the environment, said; "We've worked closely with the Parklife organisers to make sure this successful event can continue to be held in Manchester. We look forward to the long term benefits which events of this nature will bring to Heaton Park, Manchester residents and other people who regularly use this wonderful free facility".
The Prodigy is a must-have star for any festival main stage, after 25 million sold albums and an amazing popularity through the years. Probably the most successful British electronic formation has surprised the fans with a concert album two years ago. Besides their big hits, we will hear new songs from their new album ’How to Steal a Jet Fighter’.
Calvin Harris is one of the biggest names today in the mainstream electronic music scene. Last year he had a massive show in Zamárdi and this year his track ’We Found Love’, in collaboration with Rihanna, received a Grammy. The Scottish DJ makes perfect party songs with a hint of electro house sound and this year he arrives with a brand new program to the event.
One of the most important hip-hop formations, Wu Tang Clan, truly belongs to music history. The New York clan was formed in 1993, so this year they are celebrating their 20th jubilee with a gigantic tour. They are working on a new album and in Zamárdi all the eight founding members will perform, except ODB, on the biggest stage of Balaton Sound.
Armin van Buuren has closed last year’s Balaton Sound with some fireworks and an uplifting, energetic, massive set. This year he comes back with his ‘A State of Trance 2013’ collection to remind the fans of what quality trance really means. The collection is based on his radio show that is close to the 600th episode, reaching out to twenty-five million fans. Based on these numbers it is quite possible that his show will be the biggest among all.
He is easily recognizable for his unique eclectic house sets, Jamie Jones, has become a prominent icon of the industry at the late 2000s. He made the mix for the 59th album of the Fabric series and worked with the Cocoon label of Sven Väth, but based on his success for three years now he has his own label, Hot Creation. He is unstoppable, last year he has conquered the British charts with ’Benediction’ and this year Jamie can prove his talent at his European tour.
Italian music background and Swedish pop hits have influenced the songs of Alesso, a Stockholm-born Italian DJ. Accordingly, he doesn’t have close ties with the Italian, but the Swedish House Mafia and with his easy-going, monumental dance music he had several sold-out parties.
The abstract and enchanted songs of Crystal Castles are closer to the noise and art rock bands of the 80s new wave than to the parties of the 2000s. However, they made one of the most important albums of the decade in 2008. Since, they became popular on the dance floor with their song ‘Not in Love’ in 2010, a collaboration with Robert Smith from Cure, and this year the crowd can enjoy their strange music in Zamárdi.
You cannot organize an electronic music festival in 2013 without the show of one of the members of Swedish House Mafia. This year out of the trio, Axwell, is definitely coming to Lake Balaton. Moreover, he is the most influential character of the music mafia as there were hardly any electronic pop music recordings from Sweden that he did not assist to. While Swedish is usually gold and a world-success in pop music; Axwell as well plays in the biggest parties on the biggest stages with the best tracks.
Henrik Schwarz is a music gourmand, without any overstatement. One of the iconic DJs of the Berlin clubs not only makes gigantic parties in the most popular clubs in Berlin but also works together with jazz bands at jazz festivals too. His sophisticated but melodic sets will definitely make the crowd dance in Zamárdi. The fans can take it for granted that they will party to one of the most interesting music projects of the German capital by the Lake.
The name of The Advent means the arrival of another icon to Zamárdi. For a decade now the duo became a one-man project, being revolutionary in techno music. The Portuguese Cisco Ferreira is not only known as a London DJ, but for being a sound engineer as well. He is constantly working on new sounds and he is a pioneer in electronic live acts with making all of his shows a real and unique experience.
In the Anglo-Saxon world it is pretty well-known what hip-hop is all about and it’s positive that the Australian Iggy Azaela will be “Die Antwoord” of 2013. The cool blond MC is easy-going and in herself a real hip-hop production, laughing at the iconic characteristics and gestures of the genre. Born in Sydney, living in LA, the MC lady made a huge success with her video Pu$$y. Her self-confidence could not be more declared than the title of her new album ‘The New Classic’.
The name of Belzebass promises massive bass sounds and the two crazy Italians, Michele and Riccardo, won’t let the audience down. Anything that comes in their way, from metal through techno, hardcore to nu rave, they collect everything and use it for some hard-core electro trash party.
Berlin-based Swedish DJ, Jan Blomqvist, merges Swedish pop style with the German capitals minimal sets. The former bass-guitarist for Hexenhaus and songwriter DJ plays with his audience as he wants: by knowing everything needed for a good party and making it happen. So stay tuned for Jan Blomqvist live at Balaton Sound!
The Canadian Fairmont, originally Jake Fairley, is a fan of the electronic sounds and apparatus of the 70s and 80s. No surprise, he invites the two decades and modern electro and techno music to meet each other in his sets. Fairmont makes music with special atmosphere and an exciting taste.
With his roots intertwined in house music for the past 25 years, Terry Hunter has travelled the globe sharing his passion for soulful house music while continuing to produce dance-floor packing hits for his Ts Box record label. Pleased with the success he has garnered in the house music community, but still looking to fulfil his appetite with new genres of music Terry’s latest adventure in his musical journey showcases his production talent in the hip hop arena
Of course, Horse Meat Disco, Kenny Dope, Krank Brothers, Dennis Ferrer and his Objektivity as well as the Martinez Brothers will all play, as will Sandy Rivera and Noir, both of whom are house heroes set to headline the Defected stage on Saturday’s main event.
What’s more, there are a slew of beach and pool parties being announced meaning there will be even more action to get in on across the 7 days of this party paradise. As well as the carefully programmed events, the keen eye for production and exclusive location, you will be able to enjoy a variety of fine eateries whatever your preference… Italian, Mexican, Caribbean – all things are catered for with food available 24 hours a day from any one of the numerous restaurants which make up this most heavenly Island.

Taking over the clubs, bars, outdoor spaces and glistening swimming pools that make up the dreamy resort, Groove Fest will be the festival experience you never forget.
