Isle of Wight Festival 2017

The Isle of Wight opened its gates to the crowds on Thursday afternoon, the skies had opened up and people were arriving for the pre-festival evening on The Big Top stage, ‘The sex pissed dolls', 'The Alarm', 'Starsailor' and the headliners 'Razorlight', were waiting to perform. The rain surrounded the crowd but nothing but good music and a pint or two couldn't cure. 

When arriving at the festival, security was on high alert, this didn’t alarm people attending the Isle of Wight. They just made people aware that there would be more of a wait than normal whilst checks were being made. Most punters did not mind or complain due to the current events happening around the United Kingdom, most talked and got ready to enjoy the festival waiting on the other side of the gates, some made it known they didn’t appreciate the wait, but they didn't ruin a good vibe between the crowds waiting for the four-day festival to begin. 

This year I decided I wanted to rent a tent rather than build one, yes this does sound lazy but actually totally worth it. Not only was there heavy rain when I arrived but it was cold and damp, building a tent in that would have been a nightmare. (Sorry to all those who had to do this.) But I was not one of them, This year I rented a tent from the company 'Pink Moon Camping', (http://www.pinkmooncamping.co.uk) Things didn’t go as smoothly as one would have hoped, When arriving the two Tipi tent that my friend and I rented was flooded inside and not looking appealing to sleep in. We had to go and get assistance whilst waiting in the pouring rain for the manager to help us. She helped us as quickly as possible and in turn upgraded our tent to a much more sturdy four person tipi. This tent was dry and a lot bigger than we were expecting, and at no extra cost was perfect for the four nights we were attending the festival. The facilities were limited but decent enough for a quick shower or toilet break, they could have done with a few more toilets and showers for a number of people hiring the tents, as the wait could be long. but the staff themselves were helpful and polite at all times and they did keep the facilities as clean as possible. 

After venturing out in the rain on a few occasions 'Razorlight' performed hits such as ‘America’, ‘Golden Touch’ and ’Before I fall to pieces’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIj97HUUT0E&feature=youtu.be) They provided good entertainment that got the crowd riled up on what felt like a cold winters night, it was hard to believe it was the first weekend of June, with the weather conditions as they were. The forecast for the weekend at first looked peek, but after the torrential rain on Thursday the skies turned blue, clouds came out and some high winds blasted their way around. To say this wasn’t wellies season would have been a lie. 

Friday 9th June 2017 

After the down poor on Thursday, I was surprised to see the tent was still standing, but the blue skies were peeking through. Today looked like a good day, thousands upon thousands of people were arriving to celebrate the best of the music industry within the United Kingdom. 

The big top stage supported acts such as 'Paradisa', 'Lucy Spraggan', 'Ward Thomas', 'The Pretenders' and 'Alison Moyet'. 'Alison Moyet' performed a 55-minute electronic set, bringing all her hits to the stage, she performed songs such as ‘all cried out’, ‘Only you’ and ‘don’t go’. She gave a sensual and elegant performance on The Big Top Stage. 

On the other side of the festival on the Main stage people were gathering for the likes of  'David Guetta', 'Run DMC', 'Kaiser Chiefs', 'Rag ’n’ Bone Man', 'Nothing But Thieves' and the 'Sex Pissed dolls'. 

'Sex Pissed Dolls' opened the stage with famous covers such as 'Teenage kicks', 'Common people' and 'Serial Killer', they provided and energetic and engaging performance, getting the crowd ready for the line up of the evening and what a line up it was. 'Rag ’n’ Bone man' performed for 45 minutes covering his first ever Isle of Wight festival. Performing to thousands of fans, he provided songs from his debut album belting out hit after hit such as Skins, Humans, Fire and ending with the Bitter end. He opened up the road for 'Kaiser Chiefs' bringing back classics such as 'We predict a riot', 'Ruby' and 'Na Na Na'. These songs got the crowd up and dancing like it was 2007. They were engaging and on point and provided great entertainment. 

The Headliners for this evening where the legendary Hip Hop kings of New York 'Run DMC' and the sensational  'DJ David Guetta'.  'Run DMC' took us back to the 80’s with hits such as 'It’s like that', 'My Adidas' and 'Runs House'. He provided stories of legendary 'DJ J' and his sons whom in turn have followed in their fathers' footsteps, we paid respect to late J and enjoyed singing along with 'Walk this way' at the end of the night. Due to technical issues throughout the first night. We had to wait a little longer for 'David Guetta', he was definitely worth waiting for, he isn’t known as one of the Best DJs around the world for no reason. He provided a light show that connected to his music and got everyone raving, to hits such as 'Play hard', 'Titanium', 'shot me down' and the outstanding beat of 'Bad'. There was no way you could sit still through this legendary set that ended a fantastic night with fireworks.

Saturday 10th June 2017 

Day three started with a bacon bap, some sunny spells and a shower, once fresh and ready to go we checked out what was on the agenda for today.  The Big Top tent provided artists such as 'The Germain Sisters', 'Bang Bang Romeo', 'Melanie C', 'Zara Larson' and 'Example and DJ Wire'. 

Over on the Main Stage, 'My Baby', 'The Slow Readers Club', 'Tom Chaplin', 'Jack Savoretti', 'Texas', 'The Kooks', 'Catfish and the Bottlemen' and 'Arcade Fire' were performing throughout the day. 

'Tom Chaplin' lead singer from Keane, provided songs from his debut album The Wave, he played songs such as 'Quicksand', 'hardened heart' and 'hold on to our love', he sang a classic from Keane 'Somewhere only we go' and the audience joined in, his voice and performance was sublime, no fault found he performed with such ease and confidence. A pleasure to watch. 

As the day went on the sun made its appearance once and while, but the wind made the day feel like a winter's afternoon, For a day in June I was supporting four layers of clothing and a rainproof jacket. The kooks provided movement and great music before opening up the stage to the one and only 'Texas', This was their first time performing at the Isle of Wight Festival, Texas provided songs from their 25 years within the music industry such as 'I don’t want a lover', 'Black-eyed Boy', 'When we are together' and 'summer son', which in turn brought the sun out from behind the clouds. Creating a warmer environment for performers Arcade Fire Who headlined the festival on that Saturday evening.

In the mean time i ventured over to the tents, Exploring the 'The Electro Love 80’s Tent', Catching the Tribute band Gun’s and Roses who sounded and performed with as much energy as the originals, They were followed by the 'Mocky Horror Show', a group of actors performing classic songs from the Legendary Rocky Horror show. The show was entertaining and to the Tee. We ventured over to the Kiwi Camp for an Acousticokkee night, where individuals could sing their hearts out, The punters made the night brilliant the humour mixed with decent voices made a great end to a brilliant evening. 

Sunday 11th June 2017 

The last day of the festival, one more night in a tent and then a two-hour journey back to the good old South West. Today's agenda is looking strong and exciting. 

The Big Top Tent is providing music from 'Judas', 'The Amazons', 'The Sherlocks', 'The Undertones', 'The Strypes' and 'Clean Bandit'. 

But today for me it is all about the Main Stage, today on the agenda was no other than the legendary 'Rod Stewart', who shared the stage with 'Bastille', 'George Ezra', 'Imelda May', 'The Shires', 'The Vamps', 'Jack Maynard' and 'Scouting for Girls'. 

'The Shires' brought the sound of the country to the isle of wight, bringing Nashville to the United Kingdom, Their unique sound and vibrant voices bring goosebumps to your soul. They performed songs from their latest album and their debut album, such as 'Beats to the Rhythm', 'State line', 'I just want to love you' and 'Daddy’s little girl'. When listening to them perform you can feel every word they are singing and no they mean every word they perform. 

The Irish singer/ songwriter 'Imelda May' performed for the first time on the Main Stage at the Isle of Wight, she bought her unique and roar talent centre stage. bringing her own style and energy giving an honest and soul-bearing performance to the crowd, performing songs such as 'Black tears', 'Leave me lonely' and 'Human'. She generated the true essence to show the beauty in the words of the music. 

This opened the ground for the young and talented 'George Ezra' his performance was giddy and fun and very innocent. Performing music that was created when figuring out what life is all about, he performed songs such as 'Barcelona', 'Blame it on me' and 'Budapest', which he closed his set with and everyone got involved and danced around. This opened the night for the Legend 'Rod Stewart'.

'Rod Stewart' Closed the festival with an hour and fifty minutes performing hits that ventured over the last 56 years within the British music industry. This was his first time that he had performed at the Isle of Wight Festival and what an honour it was.  As an artist, he has had six consecutive number one album's within the UK and has sold over one hundred million records worldwide. He bought his sound and his husky voice to the Isle of Wight festival. As a performer, he sounded just as good today as he did 56 years ago. He hasn’t lost his vocals but yet adapted his performance.

He added layers to his sound and used beautiful musicians to capture the sound of his songs that he has created over the last few decades., His performance was strong and epic to watch he was outstanding and charismatic with the audience. His many clothing changes brought out his fun, loving and cheeky side whilst he performed songs such as 'Maggie May', 'I don't want to talk about it', 'Do Ya think I'm sexy' and ended the night on 'Sailing'. He was for me the highlight of the weekend and provided great entertainment. What a great way to end 2017. Now here’s to 2018 IOW festival…. Let's hope it’s as good as this one. 

The Pretenders, The Kooks and more announced for Isle of Wight Festival 2017

Today, The Isle of Wight Festival 2017 announces 18 new acts to be added to the bill: The Pretenders, The Kooks, Imelda May, Razorlight, Alison Moyet, Starsailor, Space, Melanie C, Scouting For Girls, Tom Chaplin, Alex Francis, Lucy Spraggan, Bang Bang Romeo, Paradisia, Wild Front, The Slow Readers Club, Showhawk Duo and Victoria.

They join headliners Arcade Fire, David Guetta, Run DMC and Rod Stewart as well as recently announced acts Rag ‘N’ Bone Man, Bastille, Kaiser Chiefs, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Zara Larsson, Clean Bandit, The Vamps and The Amazons. 

Of the exciting new additions to the bill, John Giddings says: “This makes it one of the best line-ups we have ever had.  Roll on June!”

Legendary English-American rock band The Pretenders are fronted by the unstoppable Chrissie Hynde. Originally forming in the late ‘70s, The Pretenders’ self-titled debut album soared straight to #1 on the UK chart, paving the way for an iconic career spanning almost four decades. 

Chrissie Hyde from The Pretenders said: ”I'm absolutely over the moon to be playing the Isle of Wight Festival; it is one of the most iconic festivals of our time. I'm so humbled to be playing a festival that so many legends have performed at. I cannot wait."

The Kooks will celebrate a decade together as a band with their 'Best Of' UK tour taking place this year. Their 2006 debut album ‘Inside In / Inside Out’ was recently certified five-times platinum and is still engaging new fans today. The band now have three more studio albums, a number of massive world tours, awards and critical acclaim under their belts as well as over 3 million monthly Spotify listeners, while their seminal single ‘Naive’ remains in the Spotify Top 200 playlist. 

Imelda May has become one of Ireland’s most celebrated female artists in history. Discovered by Jools Holland, who asked Imelda to support him on tour, Imelda has gone on to perform alongside legendary artists including Lou Reed, Bono and Smokey Robinson. Her previous album ‘Tribal’ debuted at #1 in Ireland and #3 in the UK. 

Razorlight’s 2006 self-titled album topped the UK Album Chart and went on to be certified multi-platinum, spawning the huge singles ‘In The Morning’, ‘Before I Fall to Pieces’ and UK #1 ‘America’. Over their 15-year career, the band have played shows alongside Queen, Oasis and The Who and have become a staple of the British indie movement.  

Alison Moyet’s career is in its fourth decade. Her earliest hits as a solo artist include ‘All Cried Out’, ‘Is This Love?’ and ‘Love Resurrection’. Moyet has released five UK Top 10 albums, including two #1s, and most recently Top 5 album ‘The Minutes’ in 2013.

Alison Moyet said: “I’m really thrilled to be invited to perform at the IOW Festival again. It really is something to play this legend of a festival that boasts such an authentic history. I am expecting grand larks.”

Britpop four-piece Starsailor have released ten Top 40 singles and two Top 10 albums since debuting in 2000. Not only have they toured the world extensively the band have also enjoyed more than their fair share of prestigious gigs, supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Police, The Killers, and U2, and have sold over 3 million albums worldwide. The band are currently recording a new album to be released through Cooking Vinyl in 2017. 

James Walsh from Starsailor said: “We're really excited to be returning to the Isle of Wight festival. It's a fantastic line-up this year & we're extremely proud to be a part of it.”

Space first rose to prominence in the ‘90s for their eclectic blend of alternative rock, hip-hop and neo-psychedelia. After disbanding for 10 years, the band returned and immediately sold out their reunion show at O2 Academy Liverpool, solidifying their status as a cult band on the Liverpool music scene. Space’s new studio album, Give Me Your Future, is being released early 2017, followed by the bands Anthology Boxset release date late 2017.

Tommy Scott from Space said:  “The Isle of Wight is the most iconic festival and we are so excited to playing it this year. Best present for 2017 that we could have wished for.  Can't wait to see the fans over on the Island.”

Melanie C is an international pop icon and founding member of Spice Girls, the best-selling girl band of all time. Since Spice Girls’ disbandment in 2000, Melanie C has gone on to establish herself as a hugely successful solo artist, selling 20 million records worldwide and collaborating with Bryan Adams and TLC’s Lisa ‘Left-Eye’ Lopes. She released her latest solo album, ‘Version of Me’, in 2016. 

She said: “I’m really looking forward to playing the Isle of Wight in June.  It’s one of my favourite festivals and a great way to start the Summer.”

Scouting For Girls released four UK Top 10 singles and four UK Top 10 albums since their debut in 2007. The three-piece’s 2010 single ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’ debuted at #1 and spent a whopping 22 weeks on the UK chart. In December 2016, the band announced a ballot for their 10th anniversary show, which received 20,000 applicants for just 300 tickets.

Tom Chaplin is the frontman of anthemic, multi-million selling British band Keane, who scored 5 number one albums between 2004 and 2013.  A successful solo artist in his own right, Tom released his debut solo album ‘The Wave’ in 2016 which entered the UK Album Chart at #3. The Wave features eleven incredibly honest and ultimately uplifting songs written by Tom and produced by Matt Hales.

Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Alex Francis is gearing up to release his debut EP in 2017. The budding talent was named one of Time Out’s ‘Rising Stars’ in 2016, followed by live shows with Samm Henshaw and Luke Sital-Singh. Having already gained the support of British breakthrough James Bay, Francis is set for big things this year. 

Alex Francis said: “I’m beyond thrilled to be part of this year's Isle of Wight Festival alongside so many amazing, legendary performers. It's a real honour to be asked and I absolutely cannot wait to get on stage!"

British singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan recently released her fourth studio album, ‘I Hope You Don’t Mind Me Writing’ in January 2017 and achieved an incredible no.12 in the Official UK Album Chart. Spraggan is that rarest of things – a genuine singer/song-writer to emerge from the TV talent show scene and was the first contestant in the show’s history to score a Top 40 single and album before the live shows even aired.  

Bang Bang Romeo are a British rock four-piece who draw influence from the likes of Jefferson Airplane, The Mamas and the Papas and Smashing Pumpkins. Described as a ‘hard edged Fleetwood Mac’, the band have been praised by BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens as ‘the best in new music’ and ‘one of the most exciting new bands in the country’. 

Bang Bang Romeo said: "Isle of Wight Festival will always be special for us, the place is steeped in History from Hendrix to The Rolling Stones, Bowie to Fleetwood Mac and you can feel the magic in the air around the place. It has such a feel good factor that a lot of festivals fail to grasp and forever will be important to us as the first major festival that gave us a chance to perform. It plays a leading role in the BANG BANG ROMEO story and we can't wait to be back on the Island this summer."

Paradisia are a female trio from London who combine vocals, keyboard and harp to create a unique, ‘70s-infused sound. The band have previously supported Paolo Nutini on tour and played a Hyde Park show with Bruce Springsteen, whose classic track ‘Dancing In The Dark’ they covered and released as their debut single.

Breaking indie four-piece Wild Front whose self-released tracks have already amassed an impressive 175,000 streams on Spotify. The band’s eclectic tracks – which draw influence from everything from ‘80s rock and indie folk to West Coast hip-hop – have all received huge support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing. 

Lead singer Jack Williams from Wild Front said: ’'It's one of the big ones, with a lot history, so it's a privilege to be playing.’'

The Slow Readers Club describe their sound as ‘indie-electro-doom-pop’. The band have supported James on their UK tour, including a date at London’s Forum, and recently sold out their own headline show at Manchester’s O2 Ritz two months in advance. The Manchester Evening News recently described the band as ‘one of the most exciting sounds coming out of our city’. 

The Slow Readers Club said: "We are really excited to be playing IOW festival.  This year’s lineup looks amazing. Love that it has so much history too.  We've all seen the old IOW footage from the 70s with acts like The Who, the Rolling Stones, the Doors, Hendrix and Leonard Cohen. It was so mysterious and mystical following the peace movement. Feels like the most natural and musically relevant festival to play."

Mikhail Asanovic and Jake Wright together make Showhawk Duo and have gained recognition internationally for their unique combination of classical guitar and electronic production. The duo began as buskers but quickly built a cult following, culminating in slots on Nick Grimshaw’s BBC Radio One Breakfast Show, festival appearances across Europe and a sold out UK tour. 

Showhawk Duo said: “We can't wait to bring ADM (acoustic dance music) to the Isle of Wight! We're honoured and humbled to make our debut at a festival where so many great artists have played over the years."

Victoria are an up-and-coming indie pop group, who have already garnered acclaim from the likes of Clash for their ‘crisp electronic production matched to a real pop nous.’ The group recently released their new single ‘Souvenir’ and announced a string of headline dates across the UK, including Nottingham, Manchester, Bristol, Brighton and London.

With its first round of artists already released, including Jurassic 5, Gentleman’s Dub Club and Foreign Beggars, now the festival introduces more acts taking over Bromyard in July.

The feisty Imelda May has a truly unique vocal talent, inspired by the sounds of jazz infused with rockabilly. The rise and rise of Imelda has been unstoppable since the release of her first studio album Love Tattoo in 2009. The Number 1 Mayhem followed in 2012 and Tribal in 2014. Imelda and her band have been touring non-stop around the world; she is a stellar performer who makes her Nozstock debut headlining on Sunday, bringing the festival to a rousing climax. Touching down in the Hidden Valley, the festival welcomes the almighty ska-reggae powerhouse, The Skints. The guys have been fusing reggae, ska, grime and hip hop since 2007 to create an incomparable sound and bring a wild dynamic to Nozstock. 

Honing his craft for the last 20 years, Jaguar Skills has kept a mysterious edge to his character with details of his real name, age and home town left largely unconfirmed. He has been responsible for some of the most exciting musical projects of the past few years, centered around producing stunning mixes which have festivals and clubs partying to his genre-crossing sounds. Known as “the King of Jungle", Goldie is an artist whose creativity knows no bounds. He was a graffiti and album cover artist before he started performing; from a MBE to over 20 years as a Metalheadz lynch-pin, Goldie is one of the UK’s most celebrated music artists and a cultural icon revered for his productions and DJing. From their adopted home of Bristol, where early reggae, drum 'n' bass and dubstep pioneers from Massive Attack to Portishead were informing their cultural history, My Nu Leng understand the heritage and importance of bass music in the city. The celebrated duo are known for their blistering sets and dark, smouldering vibes, heavy on mood but always danceable. 

Many more live acts have been announced for Nozstock. Buster Shuffle effortlessly fuse Cockney ska/pop and lyrics that are guaranteed to make you laugh, with songs about crafty cats and messy divorces. The Lounge Kittens are a cheeky, glamorous and geeky trio, spanning rock, punk, ska, pop, soul, metal, dance and grunge to sublime party-time effect. Also at the party is the Mercury-nominated King Kong Company. The Irish dance band have performed alongside the likes of Orbital and Paul Oakenfold; their sound can be likened to the brass section and heavy bass of Dreadzone mixed with the hypnotic rhythm of the Chemical Brothers. Benjamin Yellowitz is a young singer songwriter who takes acoustic roots to new levels, influenced by RnB and the darker side of pop. Subculture Sage bring pure hip-hop vibes to Nozstock, as party-starters of the finest pedigree and the old skool DJ with vibes for miles, Uncle Dugs makes a welcome return to The Cubicles. Further new live acts announced include Idles, Anchorsong, Funke and The Two Tone Baby, J-Man, Seas of Mirth, Foreign Affairs, Cousin Kula, Lobster, Adam Scriven, Mr Tea and The Minions, Junior Bill, Black Thistles, Black Salvadore and Cherryshoes.

Nozstock’s original dance arena is a former bull pen and milking parlour, and Sika Studios are returning to host. The UK’s top underground hip-hop, grime, rave, graffiti and clothing family are making a very welcome return, with an epic assembly of talent descending on Bromyard including Klashnekoff, Devilman and a RLD Records showcase. Friday sees The Blast return to Nozstock, with their multi genre sounds. Their line up includes President T, Sir Spyro and Nastee Boi. Psytrance stalwarts Tribe of Frog have also announced their headliners; OOOD and Illegal Machines whilst in The Swinging Gardens of Babylon electro swing heavyweight Dutty Moonshine will be taking up headline duties.

Over in Laughing Stock, the self-styled Henning Wehn is the German comedy ambassador to the U.K., a hilarious TV and radio regular who skewers the British way of life with aplomb. The teutonic comedian blends self-mockery and nationalistic superiority to great effect. He’s joined by the outlandish and eccentric Phil Kay, who has become something of a Nozstock regular and the man described by British Theatre Guide as the “leading hidden master of modern British comedy" Richard Herring. Returning after last year’s extravaganza,  Mash Cinema present a host of cultural videos and ancient references featuring The Power In Our Hands, The Jungle Book, Nosferatu, Nanook Of The North, Hydro The Film, London Calling: Shorts, Nothing Can Turn Into A Void, Sell Off – The Abolition Of Your NHS and The Adventures Of Prince Ahmed. 

Set on a beautiful working farm in the heart of Herefordshire, the reassuringly welcoming and independent event has evolved from 50 friends at the inaugural gathering and flourished into an intimate musical odyssey. Joining the dots between pop, ska, folk, funk, soul, indie, drum and bass, psytrance and a whole lot more, plus interactive adventures for big and small kids of all ages, Nozstock is a playground for everyone, from seasoned festival goers to newbies setting out for their first time. This year’s theme is Wonders of the Ancient World. Nozstock embraces a whole family festival experience from beginning to end, and the Children’s space is a friendly, welcoming environment for both parents and little ones alike.

Aloe Blacc, Imelda May and more join OnBlackheath lineup

This years newest festival OnBlackheath announces another batch of artists that will perform over the weekend of the 13th and 14th September which include chart topping 

soul sensation Aloe Blacc, hip-hop electro Young Fathers and Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard performing a DJ set. Plus a very special guest announcement will be 

coming soon. Irish rockabilly queen Imelda May, festival favourites Levellers, indie rockers Athlete and hotly tipped Brit folk rockers Slow Club have been added to the bill and joining Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls on the Sunday.

De La Soul, Imelda May and more added to Love Supreme Festival

A host of high profile acts have been added to the line-up for Jazz FM’s Love Supreme Jazz Festival including alternative hip hop pioneers De La Soul, who will play songs from their illustrious 25-year career as a full 10 piece live band, Irish rockabilly star Imelda May, showcasing music from her brand new album Tribal, and acid jazz legends Incognito, who will play a hit laden set to mark their 35th anniversary.

With a world-class programme that already boasts the likes of multi-million-selling Grammy and Golden Globe winner Jamie Cullum, double Brit Award nominee Laura Mvula, a special 25th anniversary show from legendary R&B outfit Soul II Soul, and man of the moment, the Grammy-winning Gregory Porter, the acclaimed 3-day event is standing out from the crowd with a uniquely varied selection of music from an incredible array of international stars.

Other additions to the bill include a string of highly regarded vocalists including the prodigious Nikki Yanofsky, who headlined the Montreal Jazz Festival when she was just 12 years old; James Tormé, Jazz FM presenter and son of legendary jazz singer Mel Tormé; and the MOBO-nominated Natalie Williams, who will be performing with both her jazz quartet and wildly popular Soul Family band. The festival will also present a broad selection of cutting edge contemporary jazz and joining the bill this month are jazz-punk sextet Melt Yourself Down, Blue Note trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, forward-thinking piano trio Phronesis, the meditative rising trumpet star Matthew Halsall, revered New York drummer Jaimeo Brown and future stars of the UK scene Reuben James Trio, Slowly Rolling Camera and Mammal Hands.

Hampton Court Palace Festival announce Cliff Richard, Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons and more

British icon, Cliff Richard, will be this year’s headline artist and will sing in the stunning open-air court of King Henry VIII’s Palace for two nights – Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd June. Having established himself as one of Europe’s authentic rock ‘n’ roll stars and selling a staggering 250 million records to date, Cliff will delight the audience with his spectacular live performance of best loved classics and new songs

Following a sensational sell out performance last year, which marked their UK comeback after a 20 year break,the Festival is delighted to welcome back Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, one of America’s most successful pop and rock group from the 1960s. The group will give fans another chance to hear many of theirclassic hits such as Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk Like A Man, Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You, Bye, Bye, Baby (Baby Goodbye) and December 1963 (Oh What A Night)

The UK’s best ever selling classical artist Russell Watson will also be performing with his orchestra. Having won four Classical BRITS, Russell will perform many of his well-known songs including those from ‘Anthems’, his most recent album release. Russell’s special guests will be Amore, the stunning classical vocal quartet.  Commenting on his appearance at the Festival, Russell said, “I'm delighted to be taking part in the Hampton Court Palace Festival this summer. I'm thoroughly looking forward to performing alongside some truly great artists and musical talent."

We are also delighted to host the incredible Lisa Stansfield for her only London date this year. A multi Brit Award winner, Lisa has sold over 20 million records throughout her career. Best known for her smash hits All Around the World, So Natural and All Woman, the audience will be treated to her greatest hits. Lisa said: "After having such a great time last year in the UK with my three sold out shows, I'm so excited to be touring once again and I cannot wait to perform at Hampton Court Palace this June!"

Bringing 50s glamour and rock ‘n’ roll to the Festival is the hugely popular singer Imelda May. With a triple platinum album under her belt and gold certified album Mayhem, Imelda will wow the audience with her powerful vocal.

Incredible blues rock duo, Joe Bonamassa and Beth Hart, will make their Festival debut this year. One of the world’s greatest guitar players and a child prodigy, Joe Bonamassa was opening shows for blues icon B.B. King by the age of 12. Singer-songwriter Beth Hart is known for her powerful vocals and soul-baring performances. Beth and Joe will feature songs from their highly anticipated second album due to be released in May, alongside selections from their critically acclaimed debut duo album, Don’t Explain. Beth and Joe are very excited by their new project and plan to bring their individual virtuoso strengths to a grand live stage in the beautiful setting of Hampton Court Palace.

We are also thrilled that the internationally acclaimed Björn Again, will bring a night of ABBA fun to theFestival. Designed as a rocked-up, light-hearted show, it rapidly achieved world-wide cult status and was acknowledged for single-handedly initiating the ABBA revival which brought about ABBA Gold, Muriel’s Wedding and MAMMA MIA! The enduring appeal of ABBA is reflected in the ongoing success of the Björn Again show, having amassed 5,000 performances in 71 countries in 25 years. The show was created and founded in 1988 in Melbourne by Australian director and musician Rod Stephen. Recently acknowledged by ABBA’s blonde vocalist Agnetha Fältskog, Rod aims to keep his typically Australian production at the top and will continue for as long as people want to hear the much-loved ABBA repertoire performed the Björn Again way.

Now a veteran of the Hampton Court Palace Festival, Jools Holland will be one of the highlights of our summer concerts. His passion for music has made him a doyen of the music scene, and he was awarded an OBE in 2003 for his services to the British music industry. Jools’ phenomenal success has seen him sell millions of records throughout the course of his career and he holds the unique status of performing with musicians who have achieved success in every decade of the 20th Century. Special guests include the fantastic former Squeeze drummer Gilson Lavis, Roland Gift (the voice of Fine Young Cannibals) and Ruby Turner who together withJools and his fantastic Rhythm & Blues Orchestra will raise the roof of the magnificent Palace once again.

The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra also returns to the Festival for another spectacular classicalevening. The Orchestra will perform scores from the mainstream masters of classical music: Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks to Tchaikovsky’s waltz; from Swan Lake to Ravel’s Bolero. Young and upcoming trumpeter Melissa Venema from the Netherlands will perform the ever popular classic, Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. There will be a long interval so that Festival-goers can enjoy their picnics and Champagne in the Palace Gardens as the sun sets. A fireworks display will provide a visual fanfare to round off this superb evening

In addition to the music, Hampton Court Palace Festival is renowned for creating a truly unforgettable experience. Artists perform in the historic main courtyard of the magnificent Tudor Palace providing an intimate atmosphere for an audience of 3,000. Corporate hospitality is available in the State Apartments and Festival-goers can also arrive early (doors open at 5pm) to enjoy picnics, courtesy of Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts, on the Palace Garden lawn or underneath a luxury waterside gazebo before the show.

The Kills and Imelda May set for Hard Rock Calling

Fronted by Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart, bluesy-rock duo The Kills are jetting in fresh from their US tour to perform an incredible set for the crowds at Hard Rock Calling. With four studio albums under their belt, including their latest release Blood Pressures, The Kills gained critical acclaim and a cult following on both sides of the Atlantic. They join headliners The Killers in that promises to be a line up to die for at HardRock Calling. 
 
Imelda MayAlso confirmed is the fantastic rockabilly-jazz queen Imelda May, who will headline the Pepsi Max stage on Saturday 25 June.With her quirky andunique style and sound, Londoner Imelda May is another great addition to a stellar lineup.
 
Now in its sixth consecutive year, Hard Rock Calling has fully established itself as one of the UK’s premier outdoor music events.Produced by Live Nation and presented by Hard Rock International, Hard Rock Calling is a unique and historic musical event with a main stage, second stage and many surprises in store for fans of all ages.
 
This year’s headliners include The Killers on Friday 24 June, Grammy-Award winning rockers Bon Jovi on Saturday 25 June, and living legend Rod Stewart will headline Sunday 26 June with rock ‘n’ roll queen Stevie Nicks as special guest. The festival will also include a variety of attractions to be announced at a later date.

Jolly Day Out – Hampton Court’s Summer Festival

Jolly Day Out provides an eclectic array of Summer Festival fun, top bands, award-winning kids’ shows with unexpected pleasures hidden around every corner.

Each day a headline act will take to the main stage and we areimelda may delighted to confirm Imelda May (26th), Bjorn Again (27th) and McFly (28th) will be performing with an extra artist to be announced shortly. Throughout the day there will also be a great mix of bands and activities on the stage for everyone.
 
Jolly Day Out is all about the family so that means keeping the kids entertained. We will have live shows in the theatre every day with Charlie & Lola’s Best Bestest Play* from the BBC hit TV series and the stage show of the BAFTA Award-winning HORRIBLE HISTORIES. We have more Festival Fun planned with hourly story- telling from The Roald Dahl Museum as well as hands-on interactive demos with the coolest experiments from the Science Museum.  Kids of all ages can monkey around recreating all the excitement of a Royal Tournament in Henry the Apes Arena, learn circus skills in our very own Big Top, make arts & crafts, have their faces painted and jump on our traditional funfair rides keeping them entertained for hours. 
There will also be the chance to bet on your favourite Pig, with Pig Racing every hour and see the special Dancing Sheep, get stuck in with Welly Wanging and play a game of Crazy Golf. In addition to the fun and games there will be a delightful Summer Market with over 30 stalls jam packed with arts & crafts, gifts & jewellery as well as delicious homemade cakes and fudge.
And finally, we haven’t forgotten about the adults… Whilst the kids are off being entertained, the parents can relax with a well-deserved drink of their choice. There will be Pimms, beer and Champagne tents, for starters.  We are also delighted that Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts will be at the Festival, providing delicious food for all the family, a Pizza Express, Maggies Farm, SoulFoods Co and Flaming Cactus to name a few.
All this and much more will be available in an afternoon of fun packed family tomfoolery!

Tickets for each of the Charlie and Lola shows and Horrible Histories shows need to be booked in addition to your Festival Tickets and as numbers are limited, advanced booking is highly recommended. Tickets for these shows are only £4.50 per person so simply select the date you have booked for the Festival and the Theatre Tent show and time to ensure you are there.
