Introducing Electric Castle Festival

ELECTRIC CASTLE represents an idea, concept and event created and planned by BOILER EVENTS, the artistic force behind Boiler Club – Cluj-Napoca’s clubbing scene breakthrough. Boiler is an unconventional place in an unconventional setting, a storage tank for creative music and artists. Placed in the former water injection room in the actual basement of The Paintbrush Factory/Cluj-Napoca (Romania), Boiler is well integrated in a cultural and nonconformist landscape.

The CharlatansLast year Tim Burgess from The Charlatans hosted the Tim Peaks Diner at Kendal Calling, a virtual diner that was one of the highlights of the festival and this year he’s bringing the rest of his band with him for a Saturday night headline slot.  The Charlatans are one of the great British bands of the last 25 years and have melded rock, psychedelia, funk and dance rhythms over 11 albums since their inception in 1989.  This is a band who have always refused to stand still and this northern festival exclusive is likely to feature classics such as The Only One I Know, WeirdoJust When You’re Thinking Things OverOne To AnotherThen and many more.

Primal Scream are arguably the greatest rock n’ roll band of the last 30 years mixing indie, alternative rock, psychedelia and acid house to mesmerising effect.  Their live sets are euphoric affairs featuring classics  such as Higher Than The SunLoadedCountry GirlRocks and Come Together and Bobby Gillespie and the boys are set to bring their rock n’ roll swagger to the Lakes.  Their new albumMore Light is released in May and Kendal Calling will unite to the classic anthems of a genuinely legendary band.

Kendal Calling is about much more than just the headliners and its hugely eclectic line ups have drawn much critical acclaim from festival goers, artists and media alike.

Frontman John Bramwell’s poetic one liners and twisted, witty lyrics punctuate I Am Kloot’s deceptively understated songs and their gritty but pretty symphonies about life, love and alcohol are timeless. Northern Irish stalwarts Ash make a welcome return after their epic headline slot back in 2009 and will whip up the crowd with a set of exemplary alternative rock.  Fake Blood aka DJ Touche is an enormous presence on the house and electro scene and his set will have the Kendal Calling crowd dancing long into the night.

The Lightning Seeds genius song writing helped reshape the face of British pop music and the band will perform a rare acoustic set.  Kendal Calling are delighted to welcome back local Lake District heroes British Sea Power with a special show for their 10th anniversary while Mystery Jets exhibit the quintessentially English, crowd pleasing pop of their ‘Radlands’ album.  Radio 1 new boy and part of the Numbers collective, Jackmaster will bring 'eclectic electrics' from techno and house to disco and dubstep and Dub Pistols bass shuddering dub and big beat will be in full effect with a live performance and DJ set too.

Mr Scruff is a national treasure and his sets incorporate soul, funk, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, latin, african, ska, disco, house, funk, breaks, soundtracks and loads more.  Hip-hop and dubstep comes courtesy of Foreign Beggars and drum & bass overlord Roni Size will   keep the crowd jumping while best dressed man in music Willy Moon brings the music of Bo Diddley and Buddy Holly kicking and screaming into the present.   The crystalline leftfield pop of Manchester based Dutch Uncles, the lustful hooks and sleazy charm of rapidly exploding The 1975 and the epic, melodic rock of Kodaline are must see acts at Kendal Calling.

Other festival confirmations include Wave Machines, Oneman, Tricka Technology (Krafty Kuts V's A.Skillz), Bondax, Loadstar, Theme Park, Public Service Broadcasting, Monsta, Slamboree, Artwork, The 1975, Drenge, Dynamite MC, Grooverider, Dismantle, Walter Ego, Sons & Lovers, Chunky, Tonn Piper, Wind Up Birds, The Mispers, Flight of Arrows, Father FunkCalling All Astronauts and Genre Sluts.

Golden Down Festival announces Four Tet, Roots Manuva and more!

The festival will take place from the 15th to the 17th June in Black Bush Valley on the Matterley Estate. Complemented by Hampshire’s beautiful hills and plush woodland the festival will be an incredible artistic playground, and promises party-goers a feel-good three days featuring a mix of eclectic acts and genres.

Organised by likeminded festival-lovers with a simple mantra to put on a brilliant festival done to the highest standards, Golden Down promises to be an intimate three day getaway, with a capacity of only 5,000. Although it won’t change your life it will certainly be a magical, musical Mecca that is a must… provided you are over 18!

Taking the festival back to its glorious roots, the event has a prominent musical narrative, with guests being carried through from day to night with contemporary and good-time tunes and acts. Artists will play from noon onwards and continue into the festival’s late night celebrations. However, the entertainment doesn’t stop there as revellers can enjoy Golden Down’s delights well into the early hours of the morning.

A handpicked selection of brilliant musicians will warm up the festival site during the afternoons; Submotion Orchestra, Floating Points, Lucy Rose, Stealing Sheep, Slow Club, Portico Quartet, Time & Space Machine and Adrian Sherwood (DJ Set) are all confirmed.

Roots ManuvaAs evening dawns the next wave of enviable artists take to the stage, with Friday welcoming Ghostpoet, The Herbaliser, and ethereal headliner Four Tet. Saturday evening will see MOBO award winner Roots Manuva headline, with many more acts to be announced. Occupying the evening slot on the final day of the festival are Apparat and Dub Pistols, who are headed up by the legendary Lee Scratch Perry.

Late night at Golden Down will showcase some of the best DJs in the Dance Tent, including house legend Kerri Chandler, tech/house aficionado Portable, and the forward thinking Pearson Sound; along with ‘footsteppin’ Julio Bashmore, self-confessed ‘Galactic Funk’ DJ Space Dimension Controller, Leeds supremo Midland, and the genre-bending Ben UFO.

As well as crafting the perfect party atmosphere, chill out time at Golden Down will be unparalleled. There will also be a broad selection of fantastic bars on offer supplemented with award-winning fresh food at fair prices, plus big welcoming camp sites, plenty of toilets and washing facilities.

The headliners complete an fabulous line-up of alternative and independent artists which mirror the festival’s strong non-corporate ethos. Other notable acts include Zodiac Mindwarp, Banco De Gaia, The Wurzels, Pronghorn, UK Subs, Citizen Fish, The Members, Subgiant. Peter & The Test Tube Babies, Dubmatix, Dan Days and over 50 others across seven stages, and more are being added on a regular basis.

Festival Entertainment
In addition to the 7 stages hosting live music, entertainment comes from all quarters of the festival site, including the Casino Comedy Club, the Strummerville Campfire, the Pixie Chill field and a large Children’s Area. Completing the events are Scrumpy Sunday (complete with a performance by Cider-drinking legends The Wurzels!), Ladies’ Day and the ‘must-do’ festival experience; live punk karaoke with the world’s premier punk tribute band, Fat Drunk Stupid.

Family Friendly
Endorse it in Dorset is recommended by safeconcerts.com and children of all ages are well catered for. The theme for the children’s area this year is ‘Wild West’ with a dress-up theme for ‘Cowpunks and Indians’, so children of all ages are invited to bring their best Stetson or headdress and get ready for Sunday’s Hoedown.

Endorse it in the Community
Endorse it in Dorset works in close partnership with the local community. This year the local Scout Group is running the festival shop and will receive all profits from it. The festival’s bars serve locally pressed cider and our Endorse It’s own festival ale is brewed by a local brewery.

Tickets
As always, ticket prices are kept as low as possible – at just £78 for an adult weekend ticket including camping. This represents incredible value considering the quantity and quality of entertainment on offer. To maintain the festival’s intimate friendly atmosphere, the capacity is restricted to just 5000 tickets. After last year’s sell out event, festival-goers are advised to purchase tickets well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are priced at £78 (Adults), £38 (Under 16’s), £10 (Under 10’s). A Family Ticket for 2 Adults & 2 Children is £220. Car parking is £5 and Campervans £30. Booking fees apply.
