Dizzee Rascal and Everything Everything to headline Blissfields 2016

Blissfields is pleased to announce the headline acts of its 2016 “House Party” themed summer event as grime-pop legend DIZZEE RASCAL and double top-10 charting electronic rock band EVERYTHING EVERYTHING. They’re joined by RONI SIZE, SUNDARA KARMA, JONES, DUB PISTOLS, BEANS ON TOAST, MOLOTOV JUKEBOX, TOO MANY T’S, and SERIAL KILLAZ with over a hundred more live acts and DJs across a variety of stages still to unveil. Tickets are on sale now viablissfields.co.uk for the June 30th to July 2nd event in Hampshire.

Your inner child has been given the keys to Blissfields – under one condition – you absolutely have to throw a party. From the soul basement of Animal House to the tree-lined estate of Vicarage Farm, it’s time to go old school and take over the palace for one ultimate weekend party. Bring your sleeping bag, togas, PJs and mixtapes to the biggest house party of 2016 – featuring the king of all special guests’Dizzee Rascal. Regarded as the godfather of grime, this Mercury Award winning platinum selling crossover artist will see in the House Party vibe in blockbuster style.

Following the release of their second top-10 album “Get To Heaven” last summer, Everything Everything will also be taking on headline duties on the newly christened Manor Stage for the intimate 5,000 capacity Blissfields crowd this July. Mercury Award winning DnB pioneer Roni Size with Dynamite MC will also join the bill, alongside some guaranteed summer highlights Sundara KarmaJones and longtime Blissfields favorites Dub Pistols and Beans On Toast.

Blissfields has always celebrated the intimate party spirit and this year it’s going all out with its BIGGEST TOP SECRET ART INSTALLATION EVER, creating an onteractive festival site like they’ve never done before. Blissfields will be hosting slumber parties, garage raves, retro living room discos, and so much more alongside its usual music programme, sprawled across a stunning Hampshire arena where legend has it; it never rains.

Channelling the spirit of National Lampoons and Dr. Frank N. Furter via the Bratpack, 1990’s and Skins, Blissfields will smudge the eras into the party at the end of the universe. Blissfields favourite and now AIF Award winning HIDDEN HEDGE area is celebrating the occasion by going even more overboard than before… crash-landing its Boeing cockpit installation into a new VJ stage, as SERIAL KILLAZ top their music bill.

The BLISSCOTHEQUE double decker Routemaster bus will be taking a mix of the old school and freshest urban performers til dawn, accompanied as always by a loaded cocktail bar.

The festival within a festival for little Blissfieldians and their families, ANGEL GARDENS is back in 2016 programming a non-stop multi venue experience for any age. In 2015 Grandmaster Flash turned up to scratch with kids as part of a DJ workshop… this year, who knows!

The CRAFT AREA and an all new and re-thought A-Z ARENA will be hosting immersive and hands-on activities across the weekend, with some theatrical twists while THE LARCH is also getting a makeover with a later run time to include a silent disco.

For the first time in the festival’s history Blissfields have teamed up with an agency to host a special 'takeover' of the big top on Thursday night. For one night only, the festival will welcome 'The NOW Stage' that will be hosted and curated by the independent bookings and management agency, This Is Now, who will stage performances from Molotov JukeboxToo Many T’sSon Of Dave and more, as part of their programme to kick Blissfields off in style. Thursday tickets are available when booking weekend passes.

The Horrors, John Grant and many more set for Blissfields 2015

Blissfields are proud to unveil the first wave of musical guests for 2015. The bill includes The Horrors, John Grant, Simian Mobile Disco (Live)Glass Animals, Public Service Broadcasting, Grandmaster FlashIbibio Sound Machine, The Correspondents, Songhoy Blues, Novelist, and Melé. Many more acts also confirmed, with a second wave still to be announced.

From a singularity in 2001, Blissfields has reached out into the cosmos inviting sold-outs crowds to its small but perfectly formed, 5,000 capacity, tree-lined mini wilderness in the Hampshire countryside. Music at Blissfields runs until around 4am each day, crafted to take its audience from clear afternoons of discovery and frivolity, through lofty main stage sets, into the heady wee small hours of the Blisscotheque and Hidden Hedge.

Eight years after The Horrors first appeared on the cover of NME, their fourth studio album Luminous marked them as one of the country’s leading, most consistent guitar acts. From their defiant early days of gothic garage-punk, they join Blissfields now as an internationally acclaimed headline act, with a truly unique sound and stage show, bringing a sense of the unreal to proceedings.

Following a string of sold out shows, including The Royal Festival Hall in London,John Grant will also bring his raw, emotional and frank take on music to Blissfields for the first time. Grant’s music has been met with universal critical acclaim, with his latest solo album, Pale Green Ghosts, garnering five star reviews and the accolade of ‘Album Of The Year’ by Rough Trade. His honest portrayal of life’s struggles have connected with listeners and even lead to Grant partaking in side projects, such as 2014 Blissfields alumni Hercules and Love Affair’s latest record.

Simian Mobile Disco will see in a late night LIVE slot on the main stage this year, their formidable set possibly including some of the remixes which bear their name – from the likes of Muse and Nine Inch Nails, to Bjork. Outside of the band, SMD’s James Ford has produced such records as Klaxon’s Mercury Prize-winning Myths Of The Near Future, Florence And The Machine’s Ceremonials, Arctic Monkeys last four ground-breaking records, and 2014’s gargantuan Jessie Ware album Tough Love.

In such a short space of time, Oxford’s Glass Animals have accosted the ear of St Vincent and Radiohead, landed a top-20 album release in Australia for their debut offering Zeba, and decorated some of the biggest stages in London including James Lavelle (UNKLE)’s curated Meltdown. Their hyper-intelligent take on guitar music has undoubtedly positioned them as one of the most sought after live acts of 2015.

Blissfields are pleased to welcome back Public Service Broadcasting. The duo’s original mix of electronica and indie with vocals hijacked from public information films has pioneered a new breed of dance-punk. Their stage show, complete with blinking TV sets, live strings and vintage suits, will beautifully join eras and attitudes together, fittingly into the festival’s 2015 “Somewhere In Time” theme suspiciously well.

Elsewhere and Bona fide DJ pioneer Grandmaster Flash will be serving his lessons in the lost art of hip-hop and turntable technique, bringing some legacy to the beats in 2015, while Eton Messy return in the slot previously occupied by the likes of Snakehips, Bondax, Alunageorge.

After seeing Eclair Fifi and Monki tear the festival apart in 2014, the Blisscotheque is once again looking at the brightest young stars, this year securing Novelist andMelé to headline the stage. Novelist has been riding high on a wave of success since being nominated for the BBC Sound of 2015 and will take the Friday slot with his own inimitable grimy sound whilst the Annie Mac endorsed Melé will close the stage on Saturday.

With a long history of welcoming emerging talent, from Bastille in 2012, Sam Smith in 2013, and Years & Years in 2014, attention will once again be on the festival to highlight the best in new music. Palace, Flo Morrissey, Gengahr, Loyle Carner, Kiko Bun, Alex Adair, Ekkah and Songhoy Blues are just some of the names already twitching the curtain of the internet in that respect.

Of course it wouldn’t be Blissfields without festival favourites Dub Pistols, returning this year to the main stage. Along with The Correspondents, who headline the Thursday night of the event, Ibibio Sound Machine and Hidden Hedge headliners Missill, they form a hazy heart of the festival – a mix of world influences and cross-genre infusions for the times when it’s okay to be lost in a field in England.

Blissfields returns in 2015 with Somewhere in Time theme

As Blissfields enters the halfway point of its second decade, the festival takes a weekend to look back over its 15-year history, gaze into the curious future of the universe and permits your imagination to run free. We invite you, and all tourists from the future, to the ultimate journey in traveling across the ages with Blissfields 2015… “Somewhere In Time.”

You’ll be able to explore Blissfields four-dimensional world featuring brand new and bespoke installations and artwork, plunge yourself into living, breathing and interactive festival scenery, bathe under the stars, join themed games and get a clear perception of humanity; where we've been, where we're going, the pitfalls, the possibilities, the perils and the promise. All realised in Blissfields own vision of inclusivity, of family, of art and wonder, of music discovery and hazy inconsequentiality.

Road To Blissfields

Before then, Blissfields is pleased to announce 2015’s Road To Blissfields shows where emerging acts will compete across the country to play a slot on the main event bill.

This year the emphasis is on quality more than ever, streamlining the heats into just three shows happening in Hampshire, the Midlands and London, with just those three acts going on to play for the festival next summer.

Confirmed dates for the shows are;

The Kings Theatre, Portsmouth: 9th April.

A turn of the 20th Century jaunt held in a secret room in the rafters of the venue.

The Monarch, Camden, London: 18th April.

A jovial step back in time to a simpler idea of summer – when the coconut shy was king. Followed by Soundtracks club night until 2:30am.

The Sugarmill, Stoke-On-Trent: 25th April.

All bets are off as you’re exposed to the inexplicable future.

Judges on each night will consist of the festival’s organisers and representatives, music writers and journalists, radio presenters, promoters and industry-heads. Winners will be decided on the night, and applications are open to any artist or band wanting to register athttp://bit.ly/RTBapply15.

Walk on the Wide Side Theme announced for Blissfields 2014

Following another sell-out event in it’s 13th year Blissfields Festival is pleased to end 2013 by announcing that TIER ONE tickets for its 2014 event are now on general sale via www.blissfields.co.uk, while also unveiling it’s theme for 2014 ~ “WALK ON THE WILD SIDE”.

The British festival is renowned for being a place to leave inhibitions at the door, but for their summer 2014 event Blissfields organisers are inviting you to take a leap even further into the great beyond, into the great YOU. Explore the side of yourself that doesn't usually run free, the mysterious side that you’d nearly forgotten was there and maybe didn't even know existed. To walk on the wild side is about finding your spirit animal, your Patronus, and pace with them hand in hand, momentarily to explore, and be as one with the world and it's nature.

Festival co-founder Melanie Bliss woke up in the wee small hours of a July morning, just after Blissfields, with a vision of drag queens and animals running wild, as an earthy bass-line trembled amid the trees of the festival, an echoing whisper, a chorus of “do de-do, de-do, de do de-do, do…". It was an electrifying stampede, a beautiful mess! And so the theme was born. Made all the more poignant by the recent passing of Lou Reed, 2014 will be a celebration of living life to the fullest, to look at the world with innocence and a sense of excitement.

Headliner’s for summer 2014 will be announced early 2014. The 4,000 capacity Hampshire event this year celebrated performances from Bastille, Mystery Jets, Sam Smith, The Staves, Marika Hackman, Theme Park, Public Service Broadcasting, Bondax, Drenge and many other live acts, DJs and performers. It also saw the launch of a Real Ale Festival and Independent Film Festival, both of which are look set to return in 2014, making Blissfields one of the country’s most impeccably programmed intimate festivals.

Blissfields Festival 2013 SOLD OUT

While Friday day tickets for the award-winning Hampshire event are still available via www.blissfields.co.uk, Saturday day tickets and all weekend festival tickets are now sold out.

Founders Paul and Mel Bliss have said, “we are so excited to be selling out so far in advance of the festival this year, and for the first time at our new home on Vicarage Farm, bringing back such sweet memories of the much smaller festivals we ran on our own farm which used to sell out like this. The Blissfields family may have grown but it still feels just like that – our festival family getting back together in a field again!

To have sold out this year with the difficult economic climate makes us even more elated and gives us real faith in the future and the amazing team that have put the event together with us, and for festivals in general. There’ve been so many wonderful festivals cancel over the past few years, some big and some small – even we had to cancel in 2008 – making it especially humbling to be back with our biggest capacity, strongest line-up and in a position where we can now put on the most exciting show we ever have done.”

Under the banner ‘The Director’s Cut’, the award-winning Hampshire festival will be celebrating all things film in its 13th year, from the early talkies to VIP Hollywood parties. Expect a weekend full of red carpets, interactive games, popcorn-throwing dance-offs, film screenings, the best soundtracks, visual treats, hidden treasures and all the usual fun that Blissfields has become synonymous with… topped by an incredible music bill.

Bastille’s Dan Smith has said, "we're massively excited about our first ever headline slot at a festival. Particularly because we love Blissfields so much, and because they've been so supportive to us over the last couple of years”.

Mystery Jets added, "It's been a long time Blissfields and we've missed you. The last time involved some happy mis-adventures, not forgetting of course the incredible show of warmth from the Bliss kids as we played our songs. Sunshine, cider, music and many other things are gonna mix together to make this a real blast and we're very much looking forward to joining you all on that. Thank you for having us, L O V E."

Bastille

Elsewhere on the festival program, this year sees the launch of the Blissfields Independent Film Festival inviting new film-makers to showcase their shorts before a panel of expert judges, and the Blissfields Beer Festival in association with Hobgoblin, offering pairing on some wonderful local ales.

There’s also a highly acclaimed children’s and family area, an arts and crafts villagesecret parties, art sculptures and installations, an acoustic café, and so much more on offer within the tree-lined site of the intimate, friendly Blissfields Festival.

Blissfields Festival announce its next wave of live acts

With their most recent track ‘Hey Now’ scoring 400,000 plays online in a matter of weeks,London Grammar’s The XX-like delicate intricacy is matched with a big female vocal akin to Florence Welch or heady 70’s soul performers. They’re joined by 18-year-old singer-songwriter Chloe Howl who’s infectious pop has been likened to a 2013 Lily Allen with the sharp edge of I Blame Coco, described by Pitchfork as having a “wicked lyrical bite”.

Josef Salvat’s quirky rhythmic croon with grand, eccentric sweeps of noise has found him compared by the Guardian recently as being “this year’s Gotye”, with an intelligence felt best on tracks ‘Hustler’ and ‘This Life’, he makes  a Blissfields debut ahead of what will surely be a well monitored summer by music fans and industry alike. He’s complimented by the Mixmag-approved “feel good production” of Bondax who also join the festival this year alongside FamyGeneral Roots, and a Blissfields favorite under a new guise, The Listening Party, formerly known to fans as SixNationState.

With many more acts now also now confirmed to join headliners Bastille and Mystery Jets it makes for possibly the most diverse and exciting line-up the festival has ever been proud enough to present, mixing the articulate nu with a firm, fun festival atmosphere.

Mystery Jets & Bastille to headline Blissfields Festival

Blissfields Festival is pleased to unveil its headline acts for 2013. Under the banner ‘The Director’s Cut’, the award winning Hampshire festival will be celebrating all things film in its 13th year, from the early talkies to VIP Hollywood parties. Expect a weekend full of red carpets, interactive games, popcorn-throwing dance-offs, film screenings, the best soundtracks, visual treats, hidden treasures and all the usual fun that Blissfields has become synonymous with… topped by the first announced headline music acts: Mystery Jets & Bastille.

Mystery Jets first performed at Blissfields in 2005, the summer before their debut albumMaking Dens found them acclaimed heroes of indie and leaders of what would become the Thames-beat folk scene that followed. They return to Blissfields after a run of top-40 singles including ‘The Boy Who Ran Away’ and gloriously catchy ‘Two Doors Down’, as esteemed festival headliners, their live set now full of bouncing, rousing and urgent pop songs spanning four albums. It’s with tremendous pleasure that Blissfields can welcome back Mystery Jets who have selected the festival for a unique headline appearance this summer, continuing in the festival's tradition of bringing special performances to a boutique set-up seen previously with Super Furry Animals, Mumford and Sons, Frank Turner and Laura Marling to name a few.

They’re joined by Bastille, one of 2013’s most exciting breakthrough live acts. Having picked up press and radio support with their single ‘Flaws’ and most recently ‘Pompeii’, with extensive UK touring over the past 20 months, including two sold out nights at Shepherds Bush Empire, they’ve a devoted and fierce fanbase, idolizing Dan Smith’s heartbreaking, wild and earnest lyrics. The touching vocals collide into massive pop melodies, making Bastille not just a powerful band for honest song fans, but for any ears of taste the nation over. Their debut album Bad Blood is released this March via Island/Universal and already looks to be one of Britain’s major crossover success stories of the year.

Bastille

Bastille’s Dan Smith has said this morning, "We're massively excited about our first ever headline slot at a festival. Particularly because we love Blissfields so much, and because they've been so supportive to us over the last couple of years.”

Matt Corby, whose Jeff Buckly-inspired soulful folk-rock has caught the inner-ear of the world, attracting over 100,000 Facebook fans and a signing to Atlantic Records, will adorn the main stage, following recent demand that found him selling out four London performances in just one day. Recently featured on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, and receiving huge support from the likes of Nick Grimshaw, Annie Mac and more, Clean Bandit – hailed as a hugely exciting new UK dance group set to follow in the footsteps of Massive Attack and Basement Jaxx, are also confirmed.

Fresh from touring the UK’s biggest venues with Mumford & Sons and Everything Everything, Post War Years join the cast of this year’s film-themed event, following the release of their hotly anticipated debut album on Sony/Fiction, while also on the main stage Public Service Broadcasting bring their audio-visuals and historic samples to play homage to “The Director’s Cut” with a performance set to be a unique festival experience.

Hampshire born Marika Hackman’s confident and intense style of folk has seen her drawing comparisons to Syd Barrett and Nico, continuing Blissfield’s long standing relationship with supporting the country’s best, brightest folk acts.

The Other Tribe have set the free-party scene alight in the South West, looking now to join acts like Crystal Fighters in becoming festival necessities, as Far Too Loudheadlines the Hidden Hedge with his frenetic sound that ranked number 1 on the DnB Beatport Chart this January. Blissfields favorite and festival ringleader Beans On Toastwill headline the Acoustic Stage, while Subgiant and Subsource, also long-time friends of Blissfields and in-house party bands, make their veteran return to the festival. Zion Train, UK dub / reggae pioneers and acid house fusion wizards will bring their startling music heritage to the Hampshire field for the first time.

With Thursday night’s headliner, not to mention most of the festival’s main and second stage acts still to announce, this will surely be another vintage year for Blissfields.

Bastille, King Charles & more added to Blissfields Festival

Among the new additions are beautiful songsmiths Bastille  fronted by Dan Smith who won 1st place in the 2012 International Songwriting Competition (Pop / Top 40 category), as voted for by musicians such as Tom Waits, Jeff Beck and Robert Smith, they’ve recently performed at The Great Escape festival to capacity crowds.

King Charles

The dandy king of psych-pop King Charles returns to Blissfields, following the recent release of his critically acclaimed top 40 album Loveblood and a sold out UK tour.

Dubbed a “one to watch” by MSN in their 2012 poll, Australia’s Me have played live to over 50,000 people since landing in the UK, honing their live show into a stadium-ready performance comparable to Muse, Queen or Green Day.

The haunting Emily And The Woods also return to Blissfields, with festival favorites and BBC championed Jake Bugg, and described by the Guardian as “Caribou-tiful”,Tropics complete this next announcement, with some names still to unveil for Blissfields’ sporting summer.

Blissfields Festival 2012: “Game For It”

The festival has been applauded over the past 11 years for its attention to detail, creativity, family friendly atmosphere and wide-ranging musical and arts bill, but above all, for remaining at an intimate 2,000 capacity, following years of critical praise, stellar live performances from some of the country’s biggest live music acts, and sell-out crowds.

In 2012, Blissfields nod their school cap to the world of sport, offering a dandy revival of the Great British Summertime and a golden age of playground camaraderie and frivolity. With a full program of sports day shenanigans, a school disco and late night ballyhoo, expect your mischievous tutors to be on fine form as they guide you through the most fun you’ll have with your chums all year. Hoorah! Hoorah, indeed!

This year you’ll have the opportunity to represent your House, as well as vote for House Captains, once again giving fans of the festival another way to be a part of the makings of the event. Although Blissfields will not be strict on the dress code, they warn that Hall Monitors may have to be assigned to make sure you are all upholding the Blissfields reputation.

Grab your jolly hockey sticks and catch us round the back of the bike shed for the best “last day of term” style fun you ever had, curated by TrackSuit&Tie.

The team are time-travelling to Blissfields to bring us some of the very best Old Skool 80s inspired Sports Day classics, all with some very alternative twists! Undertake some serious bonding whilst getting in the sack race, flirt your way to victory in the Egg & Spooning, find your feet in the 7-legged challenge and propel yourself into the Space Hopper Long-Jump. Show you’ve got the moves in the Hipster Swingathon, de-feet your opponent in the Sock WrestlingRing and pop yourself silly in the Balloon Fencing Championships!

Exclusively for 2012, you’ll also take on some truly British feats – just make sure you dress up for the Dangerous Dressage in our very own Showjumping Ring, and don’t forget to take time for the incredibly messy Royal Tea!

The grand finale of Blissfields Sports Day will see all four school houses enter the gladiatorial ring of the main arena to fight it out in the Greatest of all British Challenges:The Tug of War.

Prepare to sweat, endure, triumph, fall over (a lot) and WIN, and Blissfields 2012.

These new additions join acts such as headliners Noisettes and Patrick Wolf(performing a special grand piano acoustic set), Spector, Man Like Me, Lucy Rose, Charli XCX, Crazy P (Live), Toddla T, and many more live music acts, DJ sets, comedy performances, art installations, and a sports day to end all sports days at The Park, Hampshire on the weekend of 29th June to 1st July.

Nominated for Best Live Act at the 2007 BRIT Awards, Guillemots’ beautiful live set will soundtrack the sun going down on Friday, while currently play-listed across radio with ‘Shotgun’, Eugene McGuinness will demonstrate why he’s one of the most acclaimed new songwriters of the past few years on the Saturday evening. Getting nods from taste-makers this Spring, London’s Citizens! will bring a sense of theatre with their 80’s-onica, and multi-instrumentalist Clock Opera sets to deliver one of the most intensely upbeat shows of the weekend. Theme Park’s fun, groove-filled set and the return of Blissfields favorites SixNationState, add only more excitement to this year’s already swelling bill of artists.
