BBC Introducing: New acts for T in the Park

With just 5 weeks to go until T in the Park opens its gates to tens of thousands of Thursday campers and the biggest weekend of the summer gets underway, festival organisers DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager have added yet more hotly tipped, under the radar acts to the 20th year bill. The Recovery!, Roman Nose, The LaFontaines, Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun, PAWS, Baby Strange, Fat Goth, Discopolis, Departures, Saint Max and the Fanatics, Animal Noise, Astroid Boys, Story Books, Propellers, The Adelines, Emily Burns, Model Aeroplanes, Big Beat Bronson, Steel Trees and The Lake Poets will all take to the BBC Introducing stage over the weekend of 12th – 14th July.

Glasgow five-piece The Recovery! fuse noise and attitude to create an energetic, heavy rock ‘n’ roll sound. Bringing some dark electro beats to the festival this year are Roman Nose, who have supported the likes of The Glitch Mob and 2manydjs. Combining Hip-Hop, Rock and Pop into one genre mash-up of brilliant noise, The LaFontaines have just played their biggest sell-out headline show to date at Glasgow’s Classic Grand and have supported the likes of Example and Twin Atlantic, plus their track Under The Storm featured as the soundtrack to T in the Park’s 20th year line-up announcement video.

Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun played a rapturously received set at SXSW and have smashed through two UK headline tours. PAWS’ punchy pop punk tracks took off in 2010, and their infectious sound was showcased on their debut LP Cokefloat! in 2012.

Baby Strange have been the talk of 2013, storming the stage and packing out the venues around their home-town of Glasgow including their appearance at Tenement Trail in March. Dundee’s Fat Goth recently released their second album Stud to a slew of outstanding reviews from the likes of Rock Sound, Kerrang! and Drowned in Sound. Edinburgh electronic four-piece Discopolis made their T in the Park debut on the T Break Stage in 2011, and were hailed by NME as one of the top new bands to watch shortly after. With two EP’s and studio albums under their belt, Glasgow band Departures have developed a fanbase for their melodic hard core rock.

Purveyors of offbeat, catchy pop gems, Saint Max and the Fanatics have won support from luminaries including Steve Lamacq and Vic Galloway since forming a year ago. Essex-based trio Animal Noise create energetic acoustic dance music with fast guitar picking and soulful vocals. Cardiff’s grime collective Astroid Boys impressively entwine hard core beats and impressive rapping with street-wise, captivating lyrics. Story Books released their debut EP Too Much a Hunter in May on Communion, the label co-founded by Ben Lovett from Friday headliners Mumford & Sons.

Propellers infuse their classic indie tracks with a disco-inspired twist, and are set to share the line-up with the likes of Jake Bugg and Tom Odell at The Rolling Stones’ forthcoming Hyde Park gig. The Adelines are a guitar-driven quartet who have captured the attention of fans and industry alike with their jangly reverb-guitars and pop sensibilities. Emily Burns oozes dreamy pop with her acoustic sound and Dundee’s Model Aeroplanes are set to own the stage with their energetic indie rock music.

Big Beat Bronson is Newcastle’s answer to a hip-hop super-group, with stunning musical rhymes and vocals. Steel Trees showcase themselves as ‘punk misfits’ with their loud and proud grunge music. The Lake Poets put on an enchanting show with beautiful songs centered around lead Martin’s acoustic guitar.

Over 85,000 festival-goers per day will descend on Kinross over 12th – 14th July for the 20th year of T in the Park, which will feature performances by some of the hottest acts on the planet, including headliners Mumford & Sons, Rihanna and The Killers, plus The Script, Stereophonics, Beady Eye, Kraftwerk, alt-J, Foals, The Lumineers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Phoenix, My Bloody Valentine, Two Door Cinema Club, The Courteeners, Frightened Rabbit, Jake Bugg, Of Monsters and Men, Twin Atlantic, Editors, Hurts, Travis, Frank Turner, The View, Noah and the Whale, Ocean Colour Scene, Haim, Imagine Dragons, The Fratellis, Johnny Marr, James Skelly & the Intenders, Villagers, Local Natives, Chvrches, Tribes, FIDLAR, Palma Violets, Kodaline, The 1975, Peace, The Strypes, British Sea Power, The Heavy, Deap Vally, Swim Deep, Trash Talk, Brooke Candy,  The Virginmarys and Josephine, plus many more still to be announced.

Chic ft Nile Rodgers performing at Ibiza Rocks

In less than one month Jake Bugg will kick off another phenomenal summer of live gigs under the stars at the Rocks Hotels.  The countdown is on, the poolside stage is in place and the best bill in the Balearics is complete. Bonifide festival favourites Biffy Clyro, Beady Eye, The Courteeners, AlunaGeorge and Professor Green will play headline shows and Rocks will also welcome a living legend to the White Isle when Chic featuring Nile Rodgers bring disco fever to Ibiza.

As well as huge festival headliners, global selling artists and music icons, Rocks proudly presents a platform for the best breaking talent. Findlay, Amplify Dot, London Grammar and Temples join previously announced supports Palma Violets, The Other Tribe, Jagwar Ma and Redlight to showcase the best in new music.

This year, Ibiza Rocks will celebrate it’s eighth birthday whilst Mallorca Rocks turns three and what better band to bring in for the best parties in the Balearics than Beady Eye, with Liam Gallagher – icon to the Rocks generation – swaggering centre stage and debuting tracks from their hugely anticipated second album BE. Part of the Rocks family and master of new music Zane Lowe will also play, with support coming from Temples to complete a stellar birthday bill.

It’s a Rocks debut for Beady Eye but festival giants Biffy Clyro are responsible for some standout Rocks shows, having played the opening party in 2010 and headlining the 6th birthday party in 2011. The boys and are back, bigger than ever, to rock Mallorca and Ibiza to their core once more in July.

Back by popular demand is fans favourite Professor Green who will also return with new material for massive shows in both resorts in July and is clearly happy about it, saying, “Very, very excited to be back at Ibiza and Mallorca Rocks, can't wait to perform some of the new album! Let's f@ckin' 'ave it!

In August, it’s a Rocks debut for AlunaGeorge who have exploded onto the scene and featured on one of the biggest tracks of the year ‘White Noise’ with Disclosure. Nominated for the BRITs Critics Choice Award and BBC’s Sound of 2013 and with debut album ‘Body Music’ out in July, this will be one seriously hot summer set.

September will see a music legend at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel as Chic feat. Nile Rodgers perform huge hit after hit, live under the stars. From Madness, to The Specials to New Order, every year Rocks books a band that have shaped the music scene and influenced generations after them.  Nile Rodgers is one of the most influential producers of all time, forming CHIC in the 70’s with tracks such as ‘Le Freak,’ ‘I Want Your Love,’ ‘Everybody Dance’ and ‘Good Times’ propelling disco back in the day and still dance classics now. From CHIC’s own hits to Rodgers producing massive tracks like ‘We Are Family’ and ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’ for Sister Sledge, ‘Upside Down’ and ‘I'm Coming Out’ for Diana Ross, producing David Bowie's biggest selling album ‘Let's Dance’ and Madonna's blockbuster album ‘Like a Virgin’ – Nile Rodgers is ‘The Hitmaker’.  Add to that working with Jeff Beck, The Thompson Twins, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, and most recently Daft Punk, giving them their biggest hit to date with No.1 single ‘Get Lucky’ – the soundtrack of the summer.  The Ibiza Rocks crowd will certainly get lucky in September as a true dance music pioneer takes centre stage.

Nile Rodgers

Whilst Foals head up the Ibiza Rocks Closing Party, it’s Manchester lads The Courteeners that will take to the stage for this coveted Closing Party slot at Mallorca Rocks Hotel in September (17/09).

Shane Murray, Promoter said“We’re incredibly proud of this year's line up, the mix feels just right. I don't think you will see Biffy Clyro or Foals doing anything as intimate as our Rocks shows this year. Bringing two genuine music icons in Liam Gallagher with Beady Eye and Nile Rodgers with Chic to perform will be big highlights. Liam is an icon of the Rocks generation and Nile has inspired and influenced music beyond recognition – especially in Ibiza. At the same time brilliant new talent like Jake Bugg and AlunaGeorge are coming through as headliners. It’s an exciting time. We’re in for another brilliant summer in the Balearics”

Beady Eye

With an international line-up of chart toppers, Grammy winners, pioneering trailblazers, rising stars and Scotland’s finest home-grown heroes, the T in the Park 2013 bill is off to a roaring start, with yet more top acts added today.

Liam Gallagher played the first ever T in the Park with Oasis back in 1994, and returns for the 20th year with new outfit Beady Eye. Also featuring former Oasis members Gem Archer and Andy Bell, plus drummer Chris Sharrock, Beady Eye are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album, the follow-up to the acclaimed Different Gear, Still Speeding.

Pioneering DJ Laurent Garnier is one of the leading lights in French dance music. A multi-faceted artist whose impact on the music scene is far-reaching, the turntable connoisseur's incredible sets use Techno from Detroit and beyond, with hints of jazz, disco, house, African grooves, and jungle and dubstep basslines.

On the strength of just two EPs, His Young Heart and The Wild YouthDaughter have amassed themselves a dedicated following. The London-based trio of Elena Tonra, Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella release their debut album If You Leave in March.

Camden’s Tribes were christened “the future of rock’n'roll” by The Mystery Jets, a sentiment chimed by everyone from NME to Radio 1′s Huw Stephens and Zane Lowe, the latter of whom named their debut single Sappho Hottest Record In The World. Their second album Wish To Scream is set to be released in May.

Beady Eye, Crystal Castles and more for Melt Festival 2011

beady eyeBeady Eye
Describing the highly anticipated Beady Eye debut, Liam Gallagher certainly raised the bar high. Different Gear, Still Speeding is filled with songs „as good as Definitely Maybe,“ he told the NME. Yet, what the title promises is definitely what you get. After Oasis split in 2009, Liam Gallagher and his band mates Gem Archer, Andy Bell, and Chris Sharrock simply had to get back in the studio, taking it a step further by using the newly formed Beady Eye as their creative outlet. Compared to Oasis, Beady Eye might only be a four-piece, yet the band’s in-your-face attitude is all the more rock’n’roll. The album’s edgy, rough and pure, conquering the next level of Britpop on its way. You get the anthem-like classics („The Roller”), fast forward smash hits („Four Letter Word”), and such retro pieces as „World Outside My Room“ in 60s guise on top. If that’s not enough proof for you, wait till you see them live.

modeselektorModeselektor present Melt! Selektor Stage
Our Melt! Selektor Stage is taking shape with Modeselektor watching over the goings-on in all their manifold glory. After their spectacular live set together with Bonaparte in 2010, the Berlin-based Gernot and Szary will top last year’s show with a never before seen and heard techno supergroup. Under the name of A.T.O.L., Modeselektor will get behind the turntables together with Marcel Dettmann and Shed (Ostgut Ton) to present their vision of techno to the Melt! crowd live. Also joining the stage’s line-up, which is curated by Modeselektor in close collaboration: Nicolas Jaar live, who’s fanbase stretches from techno to indie lovers. With a new album in tow, Apparat Band joined the bill. So did Jamie Woon, Rusko, Siriusmo, Anstam, Cosmin TRG, Phon.o and Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka. A perfect addition to the already confirmed SBTRKT, Gold Panda, Sizarr Soundsystem and Housemeister. A line-up to be proud of.

Ostgut Ton Special
Ostgut Ton, Berghain and Panoramabar’s in-house label is back. Last year, label brought its manifold soundscapes to the Sleepless Floor going quite a bit back to the roots. Even in the beginnings of Melt!, many of the label’s DJs coined the sound of Ferropolis. In 2011, this will be no different. Besides Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock, Marcel Fengler as well as Barker & Baumecker (live) will travel to Ferropolis to conquer the Big Wheel Stage this year. In the spirit of Ostgut Ton, the four acts are about to present the genre diversity the electro label, which celebrated its fifth anniversary last year, is known for. From the power station to the steel giants – Melt! is looking forward to a reunion with Ostgut Ton.
