From 29th to 31st May Berlin Festival brings together all the city’s best features of unique music, culture and art. Genre barriers are torn down and redefined as techno flirts with hip hop, Arthouse with cabaret, high fashion with street wear, street food with haute cuisine and classical music with club culture.

Playing the 10th anniversary are top international acts Underworld, James Blake, Róisín Murphy, Seth Troxler, Carl Craig, Robert Hood, Rudimental and Ten Walls alongside key players from Berlin's club scene including Richie Hawtin, Fritz Kalkbrenner, Dixon, Tale Of Us and Âme (live).  

Berlin Festival will transform Arena Park into Berlin's biggest club, taking the electronic heartbeat of the city to the next level for a 48hour party.

Club institution and label Watergate has shaped the sound of techno in Berlin for over a decade and will gather resident DJs, label acts and international club regulars like Pan-Pot, Ellen Allien, Tiefschwarz, La Fleur and Marco Resmann.

Westbam will mark his 50th birthday with a special celebration of three decades of techno history: A Night with Westbam, while debaucherous gay club institution SchwuZ will invite you to join a collision of electro, indie, kitsch and glamour on the SchwuZ Love Boat, spread across Hoppetosse's two floors. splash! Mag, Germany's first address when it comes to world of hip hop, will return with its own stage featuring acts such as Kelela, Shlohmo or Purple at Glashaus. With its Yellow Lounge concept and celebrated classical music stars Valentina Lisitsa and Avi Avital, Deutsche Grammophon blends classical music and club atmosphere.

Berlin's film festival scene will make an appearance at the Festival under the banner of Berlin 'A' Screen: in co-operation with Berlinale, Teddy Awards, Pornfilmfestival and EXPOSED International Queer Film Festival Berlin. Arena Club will turn into a film lounge with Q&A’s and an intriguing cross-section of the film festival's programme. Meanwhile the city’s art scene will once again turn the entire Festival site into a creative Art Village with street art, graffiti, dance, performance art and poetry slam.

Berlin Festival is relocating to Kreuzberg, a cultural hotspot in the beating heart of this vibrant city, heading to its new home at Arena Park, the area around Club der Visionäre and Arena Berlin, Hoppetosse and White Trash. Taking over Arena Park for one marathon 48-hour party on September 5-7,Berlin Festival promises to be one unforgettable weekend, soundtracked by only the most diverse, promising and talked-about acts from around the globe.

Although Berlin Festival's night program has taken place at Arena Park for the last few years, the move to the new location marks the start of a new era for the festival. Berlin Festival is very happy this move worked out in time for the 2014 event as the area offers more than one could expect: Badeschiff with its beachfront and pool-atmosphere, the vintage rock 'n roll kitchen White Trash, the stunning open-air locations Club der Visionäre and Ipse, alongside Glashaus, Hoppetosse and the Arena itself will ensure that Berlin Festival will be more colourful, diverse and even more surprising.

As well as relocating to a more central cultural hub, Berlin Festival becomes the first ever to offer a 48-hour program in one place, where revellers can party without needing to move between venues representing Berlin's prized sub-culture and its spirit in the best open-air location in the city. An outdoor stage will be added to the event, while the popular side events are being expanded. Catch Woodkid, Moderat, Editors, Sven Väth, DARKSIDE, Warpaint, JessieWare, Kid Ink, Bombay Bicycle Club, Trentmøller (live), DJ Koze, Chase and Status (DJ set), Crystal Fighters, Digitalism, Neneh Cherry & Rocketnumbernine, Ellen Allien, Mount Kimbie, Hudson Mohawke, Foreign Beggars, Rustie, Jimmy Edgar and many more for the weekend’s festivities.

And in addition to the well-established Art-Village, Berlin Festival will be host to a Food Village that will include typical Berlin themed food stalls in and around the festival site.

Berlin Festival was the first open-air event to prove the great possibilities of Tempelhof airport as an event location, and now this unique event heads to a new authentic site that boasts of historical Berlin flair. The festival organisers had planned a move to Arena Park since the end of the 2013 edition of the event, and now the time is right for Berlin Festival to relocate to the middle of this vibrant area which has become a focal point of Berlin's night life in recent years.

Björk set for exclusive Berlin Festival show

BjorkOn 6th and 7th September, Berlin Festival will once again take take over the historic Tempelhof Airport and the organisers are now thrilled to reveal that this year's edition will see Icelandic pop icon Björk headline the festival on Saturday! The exceptional artist has been crossing genre boundaries with albums such as Debut, Homogenic or Vespertine, and keeps on influencing myriads of acts across the globe. With her current, app-based album, Biophilia, Björk, once again, proved to be one of the true pioneers of pop music. At Tempelhof Airport, she will play her only show in Germany as well as the final concert of her Biophilia tour.

With Oddfellows, Tomahawk will release their first album in seven years. Alternative rock sounds galore will spread across the airfield on Friday. DJ Shadow, the man who released the first album solely based on samples, has also been added to the line-up. He will get behind the decks at Club Xberg on Friday. Delphic took their electro pop sound to the next level with their sophomore album, Collections, which they will perform at Tempelhof Airport on Saturday. 

AlunaGeorge will take to the stage with their their debut album, Body Music, on Friday putting forward a sound that mixes 2Step, R&B and pop. Irish folk band Villagers will play songs off their second album, Awayland the same day then on Saturday there will be a special show from Die Orsons, who caused a stir with their track Horst & Monika at the German Bundesvision Song Contest last year.

We're also adding to Club THF's line-up with the Berlin-based DJ duo Tale Of Us supporting Ellen Allien on Saturday. With his debut EP, DJ and producer Ben Pearce from Manchester reached number one on the Deep House Charts. On Friday, he'll join John Talabot behind the DJ booth at Club THF.

My Bloody Valentine, Klaxons and more added to Berlin Festival lineup

My Bloody Valentine will return to the city in which they recorded their debut EP, This Is Your Bloody Valentine, in 1985 for a very special show at Tempelhof. After a break of over 20 years, the directional Irish band fronted by mastermind Kevin Shields, released their third studio album, mbv, in February of this year. With the album receiving wide acclaim from critics and fans alike, their spectacular live show is sure to delight the Berlin Festival crowd.

My Bloody Valentine

British indie-rockers Klaxons are also set to perform at this years Berlin Festival. The nu-rave initiators, who first burst on to the scene in 2007 with their Mercury award winning album Myths of the Near Future, are now back with a brand new album to be released later this year.

After having sold out the Berlin-based Columbiahalle well in advance, fans of Fritz Kalkbrenner will get another chance to see him on stage at Berlin Festival. Mia. and Dillon will both play their only Berlin show this year at Tempelhof Airport and UK band Savages, one of the most promising acts of 2013, will make their Berlin Festival debut.

The newly introduced Club THF at Hangar 2 will cater to all the techno lovers amongst you. The first acts to be added to the event's line-up are techno icon Ellen Allien and the mighty John Talabot (live) setting the tone. 

The All-inclusive Festival Ticket, which gives festivalgoers access to Berlin Festival at Tempelhof Airport, Club Xberg at Arena and Club THF at Hangar 2 is available for EUR 129 plus booking fee. A free shuttle bus service from and to the venues is also included.

Blur & Pet Shop Boys set for Berlin Festival 2013

Berlin Festival is back! Tickets go on sale today for the 8th edition of Berlin Festival, which takes place on 6th and 7th September 2013 at Tempelhof Airport and Arena Berlin.

Blur are confirmed to play one of their few European gigs and their only Germany show in 2013 at Berlin Festival. The band will take to the stage at Berlin Festival nine years after the band?s last performance in Germany. Blur became world famous in the 90s with records including Parklife and The Great Escape and had a triumphant returned to the stage earlier this year for a sold out show in London's Hyde Park to mark the closing of the Olympic Games. With anthems such as 'Girls & Boys', 'Country House' and 'Song 2' and new work like 'The Puritan' and 'Under The Westway', the band are sure to light up the stage at Tempelhof Airport. 

Pet Shop Boys are also set to make their Berlin Festival debut in 2013. The duo, comprised of Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, are known the world over for hits like 'It's A Sin' and 'West End Girls' and are renowned for their incredible live performances. Having recently celebrated the world premiere of their eleventh studio album, Elysium, in Berlin, the Pet Shop Boys will be back in the German capital city with a special live performance of their album for Tempelhof crowds.

After Turbostaat's Berlin Festival performance in 2010, the punk rockers, who skilfully manage the balancing act between deep lyrics and mosh pit attitude, are back with a new album which sees its release in April 2013. The band will play its first Berlin gig with new material at Berlin Festival.

With a vast selection of gigs and DJ sets on the airfield, in the airport's hangars 4 and 5 as well as Arena Berlin, techno fans will definitely get their money's worth in 2013. Club THF will also make its debut in Hangar 2 in 2013, featuring the music genres Berlin is famous for – techno, house and electro. All DJs will be announced soon.

Any ticket buyers, who purchase their tickets via eventim.de from 14th to 21st December, will be entered into a draw to win one of three First Class Tickets worth EUR 300 each. The winner plus one of his or her friends will be granted access to Berlin Festival, Club Xberg, Club THF as well as the VIP areas at Tempelhof Airport and Arena Berlin including catering (food & beverages). Also included is the festival shuttle transfer.

These new acts join an explosive bill of artists that includes Grimes, Sigur Rós, Franz Ferdinand, Orbital, Little Dragon, Friendly Fires, The Killers, Metronomy, SBTRKT and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. The who's who of indie and electronic music will take to the stage at Berlin’s historic Tempelhof Airport on September 7th and 8th 2012.

Now one of the most talked about artists of his generation following the release of his crotically acclaimed album 'Space Is Only Noise', New York-based musician Nicolas Jaar will conquer the stage at Berlin Festival with one of his acclaimed live performances challenging the genre boundaries of electronic music. 

The hugely talented Stockholm-based three-piece, Miike Snow will also perform at Berlin Festival. Whether they’re working with Madonna, Kylie or Britney, it’s hard to disagree that Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg make very addictive music and they're certainly no stranger to the indie crowds. We can't wait to see them whip the crowd at Tempelhof into a dancing frenzie with tracks from their sophomore album Happy To You.

Mike Snow

The Brandt Brauer Frick Ensemble will be the first act to play at Berlin Festival this year. TheBerlin-based trio will play a matinee show with a techno orchestra in tow before performing a live set at Club Xberg the same night.

Next up, Crocodiles. Massive guitar sounds the forte of the San Diego-based combo, formed by various punk band members which certainly explains the heavy noise pop influences.

Great melodies crash with ecstatic feelings when the boys from When Saints Go Machine lure the crowd with sophisticated electro pop and „avant-garde dance“. The band from Copenhagen will perform at Club Xberg.

And finally, as part of the current wave retro trend, the Brooklyn-based duo Light Asylum is one of the hottest newcomers around. With singer Shannon Funchess' unique voice and edgy synth sounds, the band will surely mesmerize the crowd on 8th September.

Sigur Ros, Franz Ferdinand and more for Berlin Festival 2012

First up, and for their only scheduled performance in Germany this year, Icelandic band Sigur Rós will showcase new songs from their eighth studio album, set for release later this year. Also making an exclusive appearance at Berlin Festival is British act Franz Ferdinand, who first appeared on screen in the early Noughties with hits like “Take Me Out” and “This Fire”. The band are back with their fourth studio album in 2012 and will be performing many of their new tracks at Berlin Festival. German favourite Paul Kalkbrenner is also set to get the crowd at Tempelhof Airport ready for take off. His shows are always an instant sell out and his 2011 album Icke Wieder is a true chart-stormer. which is guaranteed to be a party starter. Another act ready to whip the ardent crowd into a dancing frenzy is Britain's legendary techno duo Orbital. Following their 2008 reunion, the in-demand duo have been touring and working on some brand new material which they are ready to unleash at Berlin Festival.

Friendly FiresAnd the names just keep on coming with confirmed performances from Friendly Fires, Metronomy, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, SBTRKT and German DJ duo Modeselektor who will celebrate their Berlin Festival debut at Club Xberg this year. Italian DJ duo Crookers and acts Cro, Daughter, Dumme Jungs, First Aid Kit, Frittenbude, Jamie N Commons, Kraftklub, Little Dragon, Major Lazer, Morning Parade and Slagmalsklubben are also confirmed to perform. Festival-goers purchasing a Berlin Festival 2-day ticket will be in for a treat this year. With 10,000+ headphones, the Silent Arena Aftershowparty will give ticket holders the chance to continue partying after the final main stage gig from midnight till 4am at Tempelhof Airport. It’s going to be the biggest ever Silent Disco! The DJ line-up will be announced soon. The Art Village will also make a welcome return to Tempelhof Airport, boasting over 60 national and international artists. Urban art, murals, performances, sculptures and more will all be on show plus an art bazaar, bars, booths, and the Design & Record Label Market as well as the art prize and a costume competition will complete the Art Village. Public Enemy join the Berlin Festival 2011 lineup

Legendary techno temples and indie clubs, hipsters and punks, underground and mainstream, street art and galleries, Mitte and Kreuzberg, designer labels and second-hand – all this is Berlin! And one weekend in September, festivalgoers get all this packed into one event: all facets of a metropolis under the banner of Berlin Festival 2011, spread out to over 60 clubs, Club Xberg @Arena Berlin and Tempelhof Airport.

First of all, we have another ace up our sleeve, which will make hip hop fans and indie nerds alike jump for joy: besides Beginner, Primal Scream, Suede, and Beirut performing at Tempelhof, we now have Public Enemy, the legendary East Coast rappers Chuck D, Flavor Flav, and Professor Griff, taking over Club Xberg with their massive hip hop tunes. Daniel Wang and Discodromo are also confirmed to DJ at Arena Berlin’s Glashaus (Club Xberg) besides the already confirmed Andy Butler (Hercules & Love Affair) as well as Boy George & Marc Vedo.DJ Feadz rings in the final hours at Club Xberg.? So our line-up is almost complete. Our running order as well as our running order tool is available on our web page as of today.
 
Like last year, our acts will perform in hangars 4 and 5 in addition to our main stage. This year though, the huge doors of the former aeroplane hangars will be entirely opened so that the hangars maximum capacity can be used. Additional barriers in front of the hangars due to capacity restrictions (the hangar doors couldn’t be opened entirely in 2010 due to sound pollution laws) won’t be necessary this year.? Berlin Festival at Tempelhof will end at midnight but the festival programme will continue with Club Xberg at Arena Berlin. Tickets for Club Xberg are included in the Berlin Music Week Ticket. Single tickets are also available.
 
Berlin Music Week Clubnacht?
Imagine Berlin without its overwhelming club scene. It’s almost impossible. And our festival would hardly do the city justice without incorporating the metropolis’ debaucherous nightlife. Under the banner of Berlin Music Week Clubnacht, a co-operation between Clubcommission Berlin e.V., Kulturprojekte Berlin, and Berlin Festival, holders of Berlin Music Week Tickets, Berlin Festival 2-day and day tickets will gain free entry to 60+ Berlin-based venues. At Alte Malzfabrik, for instance, Bar25 DJs will spin records besides performances by Tok Tok vs. Soffy O, electro fans can dive into techno, deep house or dubstep tunes at Brunnen 70, Club der polnischen Versager, frannz, M-BIA, Matrix, Icon, Ritter Butzke, Tresor orZurmoebelfabrik . Fritzclub, Lido, Magnet, White Trash, Lovelite, SchwuZ, and Kaffee Burger cultivate sounds from rock to pop to indietronic to urban, and venues like A-Lounge, Ballhaus Berlin, Bassy, Blumenbar, Calabash Club, Club 23, Columbiaclub, Comet, Goya, Kiki Blofeld, Festsaal Kreuberg, KingKongKlub, Monarch, HBC, Levee, Paloma, Rosi’s, Roter Salon, Silver Wings Club, Schokoladen, Soda Club Berlin, Sophienclub, Spindler & Klatt, Steinhaus, Suicide Circus, Tresor, West Germany, Yaam and many more are participating as well. Berlin Festival returns for 2011

Berlin Festival 2011 is ready for take off! We’re all geared up to start this year’s festival at Flughafen Tempelhof and launch a brand new concept at various other Berlin venues. The festival will take place on September 9th and 10th in the buzzing metropolis that is Berlin.

primal screamStarting off with our first 2011 headliner, we’re thrilled to confirm Suede as part of this year’s festival bill. The band, along with charismatic frontman Brett Anderson, will conquer the main stage with their greatest hits. We’re also looking forward to Primal Scream celebrating the anniversary of Screamadelica with us. The band’s legendary third album turns 20, and to mark the occasion, Primal Scream will perform the album in its entirety. Ambitious indie lovers are bound to be delighted with scheduled performances by Beirut, Mogwai, Battles, The Drums, Hercules And Love Affair, dEUS, Health, and Wire. And if all of that still isn’t enough to whet your appetite then perhaps Santigold, Bodi Bill, Rainbow Arabia, Buraka Som Sistema and Yelle might just hit the spot. The art of electronica is represented with the masters of downbeat,Kruder & Dorfmeister as well as Apparat Band, Pantha du skrillexPrince, Diplo, A-Trak, Boy George (DJ set), Skrillex, DJ Hell, Brodinski, Andy Butler (DJ set), Jimmy Edgar, Marc Vedo and Mount Kimbie. All this plus the Mobile Disko is about to ride across the airfield with it’s full on beats once again and Berlin’s burgeoning creative scene will be represented by our Hangar Art Trail, Berlin Record Label and Design Market. There are still over 40 more acts to be announced in the coming weeks along with a full running order divided by stages and venues – watch this space. 

 
We’ll kick off 48 hours of festival madness starting at Flughafen Tempelhof. Numerous acts, newcomers and DJs of all genres will take on the airfield as well as hangars 4 and 5 until midnight. But Berlin would certainly not be Berlin if we sounded the bell for the last round at midnight. So, under the banner Club Xberg, you can revel in and enjoy more of the city of Berlin  until the wee hours of the morning as we continue the whole shebang with gigs, DJ sets and performances at other great venue across the city including Arena Berlin, Arena Club and Glashaus. Also in co-operation with Clubcommission’s Berlin-based Berlin Music Week Clubnacht, Berlin Festival visitors will gain free entry to over 30 clubs all over the city. Basically, you will get two days of fantastic festival vibes and club feeling galore in one event.
 
For the complete Berlin Festival and Club Xberg package, you simply need one ticket: the Berlin Music Week Ticket. The festival at Flughafen Tempelhof (daily from noon to midnight) and Club Xberg around Arena Berlin are included in the price as well as free public transport. There will also be a free shuttle service available taking you from Tempelhof directly to the Kreuzberg venues. There are also various bus routes to the participating clubs of Clubnacht. Further ticket categories will be announced together with a running order (divided by days and venues) soon.

The extensive event will be organised by Berlin Festival GmbH & Co. KG together with Festival Republic Ltd. Besides festivals in the UK and Ireland such as Reading/Leeds, The Big Chill, Latitude and Electric Picnic, the UK company organises open-air events in Norway and the United States; fantastic prospects for Berlin Festival 2011.
