Foals and Beck to headline Bestival 2014

Commenting on their headline set Foals said: “We couldn't be more excited & honoured to be part of Bestival this year; it's the perfect end to our touring for Holy Fire. We promise a night of madness, mayhem & good times!”

Topping the bill on Thursday 4th September is the exalted Beck! With Morning Phase, his first album in six years, just about to drop and another one rumoured to be already done and dusted, Beck has a wealth of fantastic new material, as well as a treasure trove of favourites spanning R&B, hip-hop and folk at his command but no matter what he unleashes on us, you know it’s going to be a perfect start to our Desert Island Disco. A mercurial talent with an uncanny knack of pulling at the heartstrings, Beck is guaranteed to get Bestival 2014 off to a flyer!

Dynamic sibling duo, Disclosure, have gone about this conquering the world malarkey in breathtakingly swift fashion and their return to Bestival is a reflection of their meteoric rise. Playing our Main Stage on Friday night before OutKast, the brothers will, no doubt, take the crowd to fever pitch and beyond with their already overflowing armouring of big hitters and dancefloor detonators, lifted from their number one album, Settle. One of the biggest attractions aboard HMS Bestival last year, you can bet that Disclosure are going to get our Desert Island Disco bouncing. Don’t miss them.

Also guaranteed to send the Main Stage crowd into total frenzy, but this time on Sunday evening, will be the incomparable Major Lazer! Playing before our as yet to be revealed Sunday night headliner, Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire will be bringing the big cannons, firing off lashings of dutty dancehall and bountiful booty shaking bass. With their Apocalypse Soon EP due to drop later this month, you can expect plenty of super fresh and upfront behaviour to get you Pon De Floor from one of dance music’s most adventurous live acts.

We’re not stopping there though; this Desert Island Disco is just getting started! Joining in the throng of cool castaways will be the perfectly transfixing London Grammar, whose life-affirming brilliance really needs to be seen by absolutely everyone; Cumbrian four-piece Wild Beasts, whose imminent fourth album is already getting those in the know very hot under the collar; BBC Sound of 2014 winner Sam Smith, who will be returning to Bestival following a sensational set aboard HMS Bestival last year; genre-dodging sonic adventurers Caribou, whose main man Dan Snaith is in the form of his life; chart toppers Clean Bandit, whose electro-classical fusion is making them one of the most talked about bands around; synthpop trio Chvrches, whose beguiling pop hooks will captivate all our island’s tribes and delectable chanteuse Laura Mvula, whose psychedelic tinged soul has already made her one of the UK’s brightest new stars.

Chagstock announce headliner The Waterboys for 2014

Formed 30 years ago by Mike Scott, The Waterboys became famous for their powerful live performances and majestic albums such as A Pagan Place and This Is The Sea, which included their biggest hit The Whole Of The Moon

After the recruitment of Irish fiddle maestro Steve Wickham, the band created their million-selling Fisherman's Blues album, on which Scott's original and unusual songwriting was merged with older musics – country, trad, blues and gospel – to electrifying effect. Since then The Waterboys have continued to make genre-busting records and have matured into one of the world's finest live acts.

Chagstock is one of the Westcountry’s best-loved festivals. Set in 70 acres of farmland on the edge of Dartmoor, Chagstock is renowned for its stunning location, diverse line-up of artists and non-corporate, family friendly atmosphere. Chagstock showcases the very best music, food and entertainment that the Westcountry and the UK have to offer.

After selling out the entire allocation of early bird tickets in record time, all tickets, camping options and vehicle passes for this year’s festival are now on sale at www.chagstock.info

The first acts confirmed for 2014 are Saturday headliners, The Waterboys, legendary 2-Tone band, The Selecter; Award winning Canadian bandThe Stanfields, who blend hard rock with traditional atlantic folk; Hotly-tipped English blues-rockers Sam Green & The Midnight Heist; wonderfully chaotic high-energy Balkan folksters Sheelanagig and local Okehampton rockers, Downfall. Chagstock’s house band, New Crisis also perform their traditional main stage slot.

This year’s Fancy Dress Theme will be ‘The Wild West!’

Reading & Leeds are thrilled to welcome global superstars and bonafide rock heroes Arctic Monkeys back to headline the Festivals this summer. Nominated for ‘Best British Band’ at the upcoming BRIT Awards and ‘Best Live Band’ at the NME Awards, they need no introduction to the Reading & Leeds audience. First performing on one of the smaller stages in 2005 prior to the release of their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’, they took their rightful place on the Main Stage in 2006, returning to headline the Festivals with an electrifying set in 2009. Voted as NME’s ‘Album of The Year’ in 2013, ‘AM’ saw the band return more confident than ever, with hits including debut single and instant classic ‘Do I Wanna Know?’, ‘Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High’ and ‘R U Mine?’. One if the most important bands of our time, and with Zane Lowe citing the band as ‘the last defining moment in rock and roll’, this summer the Arctic Monkeys return to Reading & Leeds for an unmissable exclusive Festival headline set in England and Wales.

Speaking to NME about Reading & Leeds, Matt Helders said: “We’ve got a lot of history with the festival. It’s the first festival I ever went to – we all went together as kids, with Nick as well. We were 15 or 16 and it was a big deal going to a festival like that on your own”.

After announcing a brief hiatus back in December, Manchester’s Courteeners will be heading to this year’s Reading & Leeds for an exclusive festival performance in England and Wales. Having first burst onto the scene with 2007’s ‘St Jude’, last year saw the band release their third Top Ten album ‘ANNA’ to their devoted throng of fans, as well as selling over 100,000 tickets. Their Reading & Leeds performances in 2009 and 2012 were highlights, with the crowd going mad for hits including ‘Not Nineteen Forever’ and ‘Lose Control’, and festival goers can expect even more from their sets this year.

One of the breakout acts of 2013, The 1975 will return to this year's Reading & Leeds Festivals. Following their huge success last year with a string of hits – ‘Chocolate’ voted ‘Number One Hottest Record of 2013’ by BBC Radio 1 listeners, ‘The City’, ‘Sex’ and ‘Girls’ – and a Number One debut album, the band are set to continue their ascendancy throughout 2014. Having sold out every UK gig put on sale to date, The 1975 will be a firm favourite on the bill this summer.

The band comment: "We grew up going to Reading & Leeds Festival. It's so humbling knowing we are going to play such a prestigious slot there this year. Cannot wait!"

With their incredible newly released fourth album ‘Cavalier Youth’, Surrey born rock quintet and Reading & Leeds veterans You Me At Sixhave catapulted in at Number One in the UK Album Charts this week. It would be no exaggeration to state that the band has done some growing up at Reading & Leeds over the years. 2014 marks their fourth appearance at Reading & Leeds, and this year their show will be anexclusive festival appearance in England and Wales. With three gold records full of undeniable anthems in tow, the UK's brightest young rock band may well make this their year.

SBTRKT is an alias used to support the concept of anonymity and has explained that he would prefer the music to speak for itself. To further support his anonymity, SBTRKT wears modern interpretations of native society ceremonial masks designed by Hidden Place. His music pulls off a series of impressive feats: it's bursting with fresh ideas, and yet sounds immediately familiar. Its influences are incorporated with subtlety and sophistication: dense enough to interpret, light enough to dance to.

From their much-loved 2010 debut ‘The Fool’ through to their recently released Top Ten self-titled full length, produced by Flood and mixed by Nigel Godrich, female quartet Warpaint have positioned themselves as one of the most highly regarded indie-rock bands on the planet. The LA group create a deeply personal and ambitious mix of reverb-soaked pop and shimmering post-punk that makes them a truly exciting live prospect, a perfect addition for the Reading & Leeds audiences.

One of the hottest acts in electronic music today, Belgian super producer and DJ Netsky brings his blend of uplifting melodies and potent dancefloor beats to the Festivals this summer. Netsky has risen through the ranks of drum & bass at a stratospheric pace, with his second full length record reaching No.24 in the UK Albums Chart in 2012 and a third highly anticipated album due out later this year.  Don’t miss the chance to see him transform Reading & Leeds into a rave with his summer-and-festival-ready tracks this August bank holiday weekend as he headlines the Dance Stage.

One of the most in-demand DJ’s currently on the festival and club circuit, BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac is a globally renowned name in the world of dance music. With her finger held firmly on the pulse she is a genuine champion of true underground electronic music and her Friday night BBC Radio 1 show is a testament to that. Annie is a welcome addition to the Dance line-up at Reading & Leeds Festivals; she is sure to play to packed out crowds and will no doubt be one of the highlights of the weekend!

Annie adds: “Reading & Leeds Festival is close to my heart and I went religiously back before I was a DJ.  It's been a dream to play there and I'm really looking forward to it.”

Brighton duo Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher make up the two halves of Royal Blood. Despite their minimal line-up of drums, bass and vocals the pair create melodic, riff-heavy power rock that has, since their recent 2013 inception, seen them championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1 & included in the BBC Sound of 2014 longlist. Expect this to be one of the most anticipated sets of the weekend.

Hozier was raised on the building blocks of popular music: rhythm and blues, soul, jazz and the deep dark stuff stretching from Chicago to the Delta. He joined his first band when he was 15 years old, fronting a soul band with some older heads. Having taught himself to play guitar and piano, he went to Trinity College to study music, but dropped out to concentrate his talents on the creative process full time. Hozier would go on to forge a musical identity he could call his own. A place where Stevie Wonder and Billie Holiday are revered alongside James Joyce and Oscar Wilde. Singer of songs, teller of tales, Hozier’s new EP is expected this spring. It all begins here.

Having recently announced that Daniel P Carter, host of BBC Radio 1’s Rock Show, will curate the dedicated rock stage in 2014, fans were given the chance to make Reading & Leeds history by suggesting a new name for this stage. Three fan nominated names made the shortlist – The Pit, The Lockdown and The Meltdown Stage, in addition to Daniel’s suggestion The Riff Haus and headliners Of Mice & Men’s The Hyphy Stage. With over 5000 votes cast, the winning name chosen by you is The Pit. Congratulations to the winners who were the first to submit the name, who will not only receive VIP upgrades for themselves and a friend, but will also get amazing side of stage access to watch a band on their newly named stage!

Reading & Leeds are proud to welcome Brighton metalcore titans Architects to The Pit and back to the Festivals this summer. Following their signing to Epitaph, the band release their hotly anticipated sixth full-length album ‘Lost Forever // Lost Together’ this March, and will bring their ferocious vocals and complex guitar riffs to Reading & Leeds for one of the most exciting sets of the weekend.

Lead vocalist of Architects, Sam Carter, says: "We’re delighted to be playing Reading & Leeds again this year! Reading festival was a huge part of our musical upbringing and it was the first festival that any of us attended. It’s an honour to be part of such a huge and prestigious festival – August can’t come soon enough!"

Rise Records six-piece Issues will this year make their inaugural trip to Reading & Leeds. Fusing crushing metal with pop sensibilities, the band release their self-titled debut album later this month and are a truly exciting addition to the Reading & Leeds line-up.

Rising to prominence as one-half of preeminent hip-hop duo Clipse, GOOD Music signee Pusha T has carved a rap career all of his own. Following his astounding appearances alongside mentor Kanye West on 2012’s label record ‘Cruel Summer’, 2013 saw the ferocious Virginia MC destroy the competition with the release of his long-awaited solo album. With the release of singles ‘Nosetalgia’ featuring Kendrick Lamar and 'Numbers on the Board', Pusha T has placed himself at the forefront of real hip-hop and this summer will bring his uniquely tense delivery to Reading & Leeds.

Championed by BBC Radio 1Xtra, MOBO award winning South London MC’s Krept & Konan have been making waves on the UK rap scene. Turning heads last year when their ‘Young Kingz’ mixtape entered the UK Top 20 independently with only limited promotion, the duo have been giving established commercial acts a run for their money. Be sure to catch their uniquely evocative brand of hip-hop at the Festivals.

Introducing a line-up for the true lovers of the very best in underground electronic music…

Found’s open-air Main Stage will be headlined by one the industry’s most respected figures, in the form of Crosstown Rebels’ commander in chief, Damian Lazarus. As well as running one of the most influential imprints currently dominating the scene, he also scooped no. 35 in Resident Advisor’s ‘Top 100 DJs’ poll last December. Lazarus has been a central driving force in the world domination of second-wave house thanks to a truly exceptional ear for the sound, prevalent in his skills as Crosstown’s chief A&R and the stellar line-ups that assemble at his highly acclaimed Day Zero festival in Mexico. Ever evolving, unsurpassed in his feel for the depth of the music, Damian is a headliner set to surprise. There aren’t many DJs who’ve received a sitting ovation on the dancefloor but Damian Lazarus is definitely one of them. Another veteran, for over ten years Cassy has developed her craft through an outstanding body of work, releasing on seminal labels such as Ostgut Ton, Perlon, Playhouse and Cocoon. As well as highly respected residencies at Panorama Bar Berlin, Trouw Amsterdam and the Rex in Paris, Cassy continues to tour the planet delivering house & techno with real soul. Joining Damian & Cassy is self-proclaimed ‘House Gangster’ DJ Sneak. A true pioneer, not only is he one of the scene’s most revered figures but after 30 years at the top of his game, continues to redefine house music with a steady string of releases. Original mistress of the dancefloor and BBC Radio 1 resident Heidi is notorious for her explosive sets, her natural ability to connect with the audience and obvious joy at sharing the music she loves, makes her perfect choice to keep the party pumping. Always looking to the future, Found Festival’s main stage will also showcase some of the most exciting emerging talent in the form of the dexterous Ben Pearce, who burst onto the scene in 2012 with his anthemic deep house debut, ‘What I Might Do’ and has quickly cemented his reputation as a world-class figure on the electronic music circuit. Having recently launched his own label Purp & Soul, 2014 looks tipped to be his biggest year yet. Award-winning Frenchman Noir has been making waves for over a decade. With a keen ear for music, his label of the same name has seen releases from the likes of Solomun, Deetron, Sub-ann, Tiefschwars, Laura Jones and Hot Since 82. Dancefloor pounding sets will also come from Hotflush’s mysterious techno duo Dense & Pika, Ejeca with his trademark vocal driven emotive sound, the sumptuously groovy Josh Butler and Leftwing & Kody – two of the most revered DJs on London’s underground house circuit today.

NoFitState will present a line-up that explores the tension between house and techno with legendary minimal producer Magda and Mobilee’s Anja Schneider both taking headline slots. House music purist Darius Syrossian enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence in 2013 with residencies for infamous party brands Tribal Sessions and Viva Warriors. With further releases set to drop in the coming months he continues to gain momentum as an artist of international repute and summer 2014 will see him rise to the challenge with his own series of events on the White Isle. Adding to the formidably female programme, Crosstown Rebels’ Francesca Lombardo is renowned for her distinctively soulful production style that joins the dots between house and techno, with support from respected NoFitState residents, label founders and London house stalwarts, Geddes and Simon Baker.

Free spirited Love Fever have assembled a dancefloor busting programme of fun-fuelled beats, spearheaded by a man widely recognised as one of the Godfathers of house, Frankie Knuckles. Joining him, the legendary international selector Moodymann who has been a central figure of Detroit’s underground music scene for nearly two decades. Representing the nu-wave are disco-tinged, garage-house production duo Bicep. Having shot to fame with their 2012 smash hit single ‘Vision Of Love’ they have also cemented a reputation as tastemakers through their much loved music blog ‘Feel My Bicep’. Early demos from San Soda inspired the inception of record label We Play House, founded by his peer Red D. Citizen has been attracting much attention in the past two years, with remixes for international superstars such as Adele and Beyoncé already under his belt despite his tender years. Fresh talent from rising label residents Son of Sun and Visions will complete Love Fever’s Found Festival line-up.

Offering a brand new VIP concept, Krankbrother will present ‘The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’, drawing on their experiences in both restaurants and club nights to curate an afternoon of the best in house music, festival food, cocktails & craft beer. Leftfroom label boss Matt Tolfrey will head the bill in this unique space. Known for his forward-thinking, playful sets he will create a sonic landscape to lose yourself in with further contributions coming from Jay Shepherd, Jack C and the krankbrothers themselves – set to play both solo and back-to-back, as they’re joined by one of the Found Main Stage artists to round off the day with a very special set.
