The Summer Festival Guide is excited to bring you the latest lineup news for Scotland's T in the Park. A bucklet load of artist have been added that will join headliners Biffy Clyro, Calvin Harris and Arctic Monkeys.
The Charlatans, DJ Fresh & Messy MC, Reverend & The Makers, The Magic Numbers, Twenty One Pilots, Foxes, Wolf Alice, Drenge, Circa Waves, Josh Record, Royal Blood, Chloe Howl and Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Plus a host of cutting edge EDM and drum ‘n’ bass acts will bring the big club atmosphere straight to the heart of the Scottish countryside when they perform in the Slam Tent, including Joris Voorn, Robert Hood, Duke Dumont, Pretty Lights, Skream, Kerri Chandler, Tale of Us, Guy Gerber, Jackmaster, Alex Smoke, Factory Floor, Mark Henning and Clouds.
The Charlatans have been an inspirational force in British rock for more than two decades now. They remain as exciting and relevant now as when they first broke through to the immortal strains of The Only One I Know in 1990. The Manchester legends played the 2ndT in the Park back in 1995 and have been firm favourites with festival fans throughout the festival’s history. They’re sure to receive a warm welcome back when they take to the T in the Park stage for the first time since 2008.
Rising from London’s underground electronic scene in the mid-1990s, DJ Fresh is one of the most influential figures on the UK drum 'n' bass scene today, with 2 million record sales, two no.1 singles and a further two top 5 singles to his name. His single Louder became the first dubstep single to reach the top of the UK singles chart, before he returned to the no.1 spot with 2012’s Hot Right Nowfeaturing Rita Ora. His third record Nextlevelism featured collaborations with Dizzee Rascal and Juliette Lewis, with a fourth studio album set for release this year. His T in the Park performance will see him team up with the legendary Messy MC.
Reverend & The Makers were at the forefront of the resurgent Sheffield indie-rock scene in 2005/2006, smashing into the top ten with their debut single Heavyweight Champion of the World. The band’s appearances as part of the bill for Oasis’ now legendary final shows at Wembley Stadium bolstered their growing fanbase. They returned early this year with the release of their fourth albumThirtyTwo, much to the excitement of their loyal fans.
The Magic Numbers, known for their unique harmonies, melodic hooks, song writing craftsmanship and timeless sound, return to T in the Park having last played the festival 8 years ago. To date, the band have released three successful albums, including their Mercury Prize nominated 2005 self-titled debut, with many of their singles gracing the top 20 charts, resulting in over a million album sales worldwide.
Having self-released two albums in 2009 and 2011, Twenty One Pilots quickly attracted serious label attention. Known for their irrepressible on-stage energy, the duo have built an avid international following, with their debut studio album Vessel showcasing their distinctive fusion of piano-driven indie-rocktronica. They’ll make their T in the Park debut this summer.
Foxes’ soaring pop melodies are anchored by an edgy melancholia, as showcased on hit single Youthand on her Grammy-winning collaboration with Zedd, Clarity, which was the soundtrack of the summer in America last year, reaching the Billboard Top Ten.
Some of the most hotly tipped breakthrough acts of the year are also gearing up to play T in the Park for the first time this summer. Wolf Alice have won plaudits from the likes of BBC Radio 1, NMEand The Guardian after they released their debut EP Blush at the end of 2013. Drenge – aka brothers Rory and Eoin Loveless – will bring their raw grunge-inspired blues pop sound to the festival for the first time. Also appearing are Liverpool indie-pop four-piece Circa Waves who recently went down a storm at the NME Awards Tour 2014 –and Brighton blues rock duo Royal Blood, who were championed on the BBC’s Sound of 2014 list, and who have been invited to open for T in the Park headliners’ Arctic Monkeys when they play their Finsbury Park shows this year.
Since they walked away with the top prize on UK primetime TV talent show, When Will I Be Famous in 2007, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have fast become a global phenomenon, with their cover of Avicii’sWake Me Up surpassing 1 million YouTube views, and taking their signature 'Bagrock' sound to the masses. The band said: “In 2004 we performed one song at T in the Park as special guests of The Darkness. For the past 10 years we have been working towards our ultimate ambition of coming back to T in our own right. There are just not enough words to describe how thrilled and honoured we are at being asked to play the Main Stage in 2014. Bringing our special brand of 'Bagrock' to this world famous festival with a home crowd – it just doesn't get any better!”
Founding member of the legendary group Underground Resistance with ‘Mad’ Mike Banks & Jeff Mills,Robert Hood’s seminal works on Jeff Mill's Axis and his very own M-Plant imprint paved the way for a wave of stripped-down dance floor minimalism. He brings his influential minimal Detroit techno to the Slam line-up.
2014 looks set to be huge for the unstoppable Duke Dumont, who is currently sitting at the top of the charts with his irrepressible summer anthem I Got U feat Jax Jones. The British DJ and producer’s breakthrough hit, 2013’s Need U (100%) feat. A*M*E also reached no.1 and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.
Pretty Lights will bring his sample-based electro hip hop soul to the Slam Tent. His epic soundscapes have a vintage vibe – instead of sampling existing recordings, he has worked with everyone from the Harlem Gospel Choir to members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Treme Brass Band to create a unique sound. Already confirmed to headline Chicago’s Spring Awakening Festival and play at Sonar in Barcelona, Pretty Lights will bring the party atmosphere to Balado this July.
Kerri 'Kaoz' Chandler is a house legend – his fusions of heady bass-lines, synthesizers, and catchy choruses are sure to go down a storm at T in the Park. Also joining the Slam bill is Glasgow’s Alex Smoke, who blurs the boundaries between electronica, techno, classical and hip hop, melding European minimalism, pop structures and emotional strings to create a moody blend of melancholic electronica.

Tennent’s Vital is back for 2014 and Tennent’s Lagerand MCD are hugely excited to announce that The Killers will bring the bright lights of Vegas to Boucher Road Playing Fields on Thursday 21st August when they headline Tennent’s Vital 2014. Joining them on the bill will be the hottest breakthrough act of the past year – very special guests, Bastille.
One of the biggest bands in the world, The Killers have sold over 20 million albums, headlined festivals across the globe, performed at the White House and amassed countless prestigious accolades including BRIT, NME and MTV Awards. Each of their four studio albums has topped the UK charts (the band ranks in the Top 3 of Amazon’s biggest selling artists of the past decade). Their epic, synth-driven rock ‘n’ roll and incredible energy make them one of the greatest live acts on the planet, and their highly anticipated return to Tennent’s Vital (they last played in 2007) is sure to be the hottest ticket of the summer.
Joining them on the bill are the biggest breakthrough act of the past year, Bastille, who burst onto the scene when their anthemic single Pompeii charted at number two. It went on to become the second most streamed track of 2013, just behind Daft Punk’sGet Lucky. Their album, Bad Blood, entered the charts at number one and quickly achieved platinum status before going on to become the biggest selling debut album of the year (with over 2m copies sold worldwide to date), the most downloaded and the second most-streamed album of 2013. They began 2014 on a high, picking up a well-deserved BRIT Award for British Breakthrough Act and their return to Northern Ireland is hotly anticipated.
Sarah Shimmons, Beer Marketing Manager for Tennent’s NI, said:
“We’re very excited to announce the first two artists for Tennent’s Vital 2014 today. The Killers are undoubtedly one of the biggest bands in the world with a global reputation for their amazing live shows. They’ll be joined on the bill by Bastille, who have enjoyed massive breakthrough success in the past year and are one of the most exciting new acts around right now.
“Tennent’s Vital brings top international and homegrown talent to the heart of Belfast and since its return in 2011, it has well and truly cemented its place as a highlight of Northern Ireland’s music calendar. We’re delighted that our partners at MCD have once again secured some incredible acts for the Tennent’s Vital bill – it’s already shaping up to be a brilliant event and we can’t wait to see you there!”
There are very few acts in electronic music history with the charisma and musical pedigree of Detroit’s Seth Troxler. Recognised as one of the industry’s most-loved characters, 2014 has seen Seth return to his nightclub roots and host a series of residencies at the world’s finest discotheques. With quarterly dates confirmed at Circoloco (DC-10), Output, Trouw, Fabric, Panorama Bar, Warung, Robert Jonson and more, he has had to cut back on the number of festival appearances he is due to perform at in the process. It’s therefore with great pride that Seth has selected South West Four for his only London festival performance this year. With music from his new label ‘Tuskegee’ set to be a huge part of his sets this year, Seth will no doubt provide one of SW4 2014’s greatest highlights.
This August history will be made, as SW4 welcomes the collaboration of underground titans Matthias Tanzmann, Davide Squillace and Martin Buttrich aka Better Lost Than Stupid for their UK debut. As individual artists these DJs have graced the world’s greatest clubs and festivals for many years but as Better Lost Than Stupid their appearances are rare to say the least. This trio of talent first spontaneously found themselves in the booth together at New York’s Electric Zoo and quickly realised the potential for serious artistic collaboration. After fully launching their new project in autumn 2012 with the promise of not only live performances but also original material, Tanzmann, Buttrich andSquillace’s most noticeable performances to date have been at Ibiza’s DC-10 and Serbia’s EXIT Festival. Having established Barcelona as the centre of their creativity, Better Lost Than Stupid will make their way to London onSaturday 23rd August to demonstrate why their first ever UK performance is one you simply cannot afford to miss.
All good music should tell a story. Tales of experience. Tales of joy. Tales of love, lost and won. A Tale of Us. This is the message that Berlin-based DJ and production partnership Karm and Matteo will be delivering as they make their hugely anticipated SW4 debut. Currently re-writing the rulebook for moving and emotive electronic sounds, their sonic vision pulls together key composing elements of house, techno, nu-disco and even rock. The past twelve months has seen Tale of Us’ profile rise to staggering new heights through their electrifying Ibizan residencies at ENTER and Circoloco, as well as their incredible productions such as tracks ‘Another Earth’ and their remix of Mano Le Tough’s ‘Primitive People.’ This brilliance has helped the duo enter Resident Advisor’s Top 100 DJs of 2013 at a commanding #2. Ranging from low-slung ambient tracks to more abstract compositions, Tale of Us can be regularly found in Berghain, Trouw, Robert Johnson and Watergate, clearly illustrating their dominant position within the underground scene.
With his mind-blowing Brixton Academy performance at Last Night On Earth on New Years Eve still fresh in our minds, Guy Gerber proved one of the first acts to be confirmed for the SW4 2014 bill. Its not just music that is coming to Field Day, check out Street Feast which brings London's premier night food market to the grounds of Victoria Park.
Street Feast has always had a festival atmosphere, so we’re very excited to be teaming up with Field Day this summer, to bring London’s best street food to one of London’s best festivals. Whether its Rainbo’s fresh & healthy gyoza or Hotbox’s 9 hour slow smoked beef ribs, there’s something for everyone, made by people with passion. From the moment the first band starts at midday there’ll be a range of great food on offer, so people can make a real day of it snacking on tacos, steamed gua bao, great pizza and spicy pulled pork naans. Field Day have always set the standard with their line up of bands and this year with Street Feast they’ll have a line up of food to match.

Parked in the middle of the Street Feast area, the lovely people of Greenwich based Meantime Brewery, will be drafting their freshest lager: Inside the Beer Tank are two maturation vessels holding brewery-fresh beer, which remains unfiltered and unpasteurized: it is still living, which allows it to continue to mature. Drinking Brewery Fresh Lager is second only to drinking beer direct from the brewery!
But Meantime Brewery are not the only independent brewery on board this year: The London’s Brewers’ Market will be appearing at Field Day for the first time, presenting a round up of the very best of London’s craft brewing scene. The London Brewers’ Market will bring together the cream of the crop! Featured breweries will include the following, with more tba: The Five Points Brewing Company (Hackney), Hackney Brewery (Hackney), Beavertown Brewery (Hackney Wick), Fourpure Brewing Co (Bermondsey, London), Late Knights Brewery (Crystal Palace).
Last but not least, we are also very happy to welcome back Clapham Common’s Venn Street Market for the fourth consecutive year. The market will bring the most delicious food from around the globe, including Mamas Jerk, Mei Mei Street Cart, Taco Truck, Dhaba Lane, Wholefood Heaven, The Handmade Scotch Eggs Co, Anna Mae’s and many more!
