Napalm Death and Nevermore announced for Bloodstock 2011

First up, grindcore innovators and legends NAPALM DEATH return to BLOODSTOCK for their only outdoor appearance in the UK this year. A band that need no introduction, NAPALM DEATH are as close to a British Institution the extreme metal scene is ever likely to have, with the brutal Brummies one of the few household names the scene has spawned. Bursting out of the midlands in the 80s, NAPALM DEATH forced people to take note with their angry, politically charged grind making them a name synonymous with the extremities of metal, and nearly thirty years later they show no sign of slowing down, lowering the volume or resting content. Bassplayer Shane Embury comments.

We are really looking forward to playing Bloodstock this year as it always a fun day especially seeing as our friends At the Gates are playing who we toured with many years ago. It’s going to be our only UK show of 2011 as well and we will play a song or 2 from our new album so it’s gonna be a seriously heavy day!

Joining them will be Seattle metallers NEVERMORE. Formed from the ashes of Santuary in the early 90s by vocalist Warrel Dane and guitarist Jeff Loomis, NEVERMORE were a rarity in the early 90s Seattle scene. Turning their backs on the grunge music that had put their hometown on the musical map, NEVERMORE stayed true to their metal roots, signing with Century Media who released their debut self-titled EP and the following debut album “The Politics Of Ecstasy”. A perfect balance of aggression and progression, melody and heaviness, NEVERMORE soon became a leading name in true metal, with subsequent albums only reinforcing their position. Guitarist Jeff Loomis enthuses on the band’s return to the England:

We’re absolutely stoked to return to the UK again to play the mighty Bloodstock Festival! We had such a good time in the UK on our tour and even filmed the “Emptiness Unobstructed” clip during our show in London so we know we got some die hard fans over there. We look forward to see you all again!

Returning to Catton Hall after a four year absence, BLOODSTOCK is in for a treat as one of metal’s finest deliver huge metal anthems such as “Next In Line”, “Enemies Of Reality”, “The Heart Collector” and “Final Product”.

With a host of exclusive performances already confirmed – including headliners IMMORTAL, plus MORBID ANGEL, THERION, AT THE GATES and many more, across three stages of music, plus comedy, fairground rides and a real ale bar, BOA 2011 is an essential date in the metal calendar. Tickets are on sale now at www.bloodstock.uk.com

Amsterdam Dance Event 2011

The four day event, as in 2010, will attract more than 110,000 festival attendees and 2500 conference delegates from over 60 countries.

After selling out for four years in succession, the ADE is considered to be one of the highlights of the annual international dance and electronic music calendar. Thanks to the fact of being both a major festival of electronic music as well as an important business platform for the international music industry, the event is also widely considered to be a significant indicator of the health of the electronic music scene.

Each year 2,500 artists, A&R managers, journalists, label representatives, booking agents and music publishers from around the world travel to Amsterdam to do business, network, discover new talent and keep up to date on the latest technological and legislative developments. The recent 15th anniversary staged 165 events taking place at a record 44 different venues. In total over 700 DJs and acts performed.

The success of the event has meant that ADE also now plays an important role in perceptions of the city of Amsterdam, contributing significantly to the international positioning of the city in the global music scene. Alongside its cultural value, the event also attracts an important number of tourists, and provides an economic spin-off of over 18 million euros.

In the past fifteen years, the ADE has grown into a renowned festival that attracts a broad international audience. ATCB is delighted by the resulting enhanced reputation of Amsterdam in the international music scene,” said Jarina Rombouts – den Heijer, Marketing Manager, Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board (ATCB)

The core of Amsterdam’s sense of identity lies in innovation and creativity, both of which are perfectly suited to the spirit of the ADE. Thanks to its internationally orientated approach, innovative music, and thriving business to business conference, ADE has, over the years grown into the leading event for the global electronic music industry,” said Eberhard van der Laan, Mayor of Amsterdam.

The Great Escape launches with Friendly Fires and more..

The Great Escape hits Brighton on the 12th – 14th May 2011.

The Great Escape, Europe’s leading event for showcasing new musical talent announces the first artists for the 2011 festival. Taking place in Brighton over 3 days in May, The Great Escape kick starts the festival season, introducing 15,000 music lovers to the key artists and sounds of the year. With over 300 bands playing in 30 venues over 3 days in Brighton as well as hosting its acclaimed music conference for 3,000 industry professionals, The Great Escape is one of the main dates in the music calendar.

Headliners for 2011 are Friendly Fires whose sparkling modern pop has ignited many dancefloors and dominated radiowaves with both their albums of off-kilter, pulsating electronica – A huge show for The Dome. After having played one of their first UK shows at TGE 2010, we are pleased to welcome back Warpaint, who will be bringing their ambient alt-country, post rock all the way from LA to the south coast. Girl of the moment, and unanimously One To Watch for 2011, Katy B is arguably the hottest name in music right now. You’ll recognise her vocal contributions to Magnetic Man and Count and Sinden anthems, while her own productions deceptively blend her sweet vocal tone and dark story-telling lyrics.

With Ireland announced as the partner country for this year’s event, The Great Escape is delighted to welcome the carefully crafted indie folk of Villagers who will be playing tracks from their Mercury nominated album ‘Becoming A Jackal’. Revisiting the rougher end of Brit Pop are Brother whose self titled ‘Grit Pop’ has seen them compared to Oasis and their anthemic indie rock proves guitar bands will still have a big say in the charts this year.

Full line up so far includes the following, with many more artists to be announced over the next couple of months:

Pulp set to play Germany’s Melt Festival

After Pulp had announced their reunion, fans on and off the British isles were ecstatic. So were we since the boys and girls from Sheffield are about to play their only gig in Germany at this year’s Melt! as part of just a few festival performances worldwide. Entertainment galore awaits us: Pulp will play their greatest hits only.

Last year, hit machine Robyn’s been busy as well producing one album after the other. The Swedish pop icon pulled an album trilogy out of the hat as if it were the easiest thing in the world. With all her new songs in tow, Robyn will conquer Ferropolis in no time.

Where there’s Melt!, there’s definitely the Kalkbrenners. Since he started djing, Paul Kalkbrenner has been part of the Big Wheel Stage line-up. At last year’s Melt! Picknick, he even performed together with his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner. At Melt!’s 14th edition, both happily continue their liaison with Melt! Mike Skinner and Melt! also have a mutual history which will be continued when The Streets arrive at Ferropolis this summer. Speaking of traditions, Markus Kavka’s opening slot at Big Wheel Stage is definitely part of this year’s festival madness again as well as Ellen Allien crossing the finish line at Sleepless Floor on Monday morning.

Regarding the festival’s stages: Melt!Selektor Stage at Desperados Beach will be part of the festival line-up again. Like last year, the stage will be curated by Modeselektor. Also the Big Wheel Stage will see performances by a variety of DJs on Sunday as well.

Pulp

Melt! Festival’s eagerly awaiting the reunion of the year! Pulp are back and ready to rock. Since Jarvis Cocker and his band mates split in 2002, many fans have been waiting for this moment. After many discussions, vague promises, vigorous denial from the band, we can finally stop worrying. The boys and girls from Sheffield are about to conquer Melt! Festival’s main stage in their original line-up: Nick Banks, Jarvis Cocker, Candida Dayle, Steve Mackey, Russell Senior and Mark Webber. From “Common People” to “This Is Harcore”, the band will perform a best of set that will definitely make your summer. Pulp is only playing a few festivals this summer. This exclusive German show is a one-off deal that you don’t want to miss this year.

Robyn

2010 was all about Robyn. The Swedish dance pop diva not only released one but three mini albums, Body Talk I-III. She pulled dance floor fillers like “Dancing on My Own” or “Hang With Me” out of her hat in between gigs and press conferences to successfully hold her ground in the music biz. After the peroxide blonde bundle of energy toured the globe last year, Robyn’s going to present the complete Body Talk works to the Melt! crowd. Enjoy!

Paul Kalkbrenner

Pauly and Melt! Festival – mates for life. At the beginning of his career, Berlin Calling and packed arenas were still far away, the DJ already rocked Big Wheel Stage in Ferropolis. In 2009, he was part of the Bpitch Special. In 2010, Kalkbrenner curated Melt! Picknick, put together a formidable line-up at Melt! beach and entertained more than 5,000 fans. This year, he’s going to top it all: in 2011, Paul Kalkbrenner will play main stage for the first time to bring you “Sky and Sand.”

Download Festival announce 20 new bands!

From chief heavyweights and major players of the international rock scene, classic rock heroes, acclaimed rock legends and innovators to the latest hotly tipped acts emerging onto the scene, Download 2011 is set to make ears ring, voices hoarse and legs very weary this summer.

UK Top 5 charting modern metallers Bullet For My Valentine, who Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich included in his Top 5 current metal acts, the critically acclaimed New Jersey boys Gaslight Anthem, Australian drum ‘n bass / rock dynamos Pendulum, who knocked The Rolling Stones off the top of the UK charts last year with their third album Immersion, US classic rockers Alter Bridge, recently heralded by a US website as ‘the second coming of real rock’, will be making their mark on Donington with what are bound to be significant and exciting live performances.

Legends of the classic rock fold will be back on the scene at Download this year – the boys who are back in town, Thin Lizzy, LA glam-rock stars Buckcherry, American ‘jam band’ Clutch, who are now in their 21st year, Brit rockers FM and finally Mr. Big, the virtuoso classic rockers who have reunited for a new album What If.

Download 2011 will see the return, and even the debut, of some of the greatest and most influential rock artists of all time, all who have influenced a generation or more of contemporary music acts. Master of theatre and horror Alice Cooper, who will be inducted into the world famous Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame this year, Nu-metal pioneers Korn, US blues-metallers Danzig, fronted by the king of horror-punk Glenn Danzig, British rock heroes The Cult, who are currently on the road across the UK and Europe, sci-fi inspired shock-rock metallers GWAR, and ‘desert rock’ originators Masters Of Reality, who celebrate their 30th anniversary this year, alljoin the party. There should be no over-estimation of their influence on modern rock – to put it bluntly; without Glenn Danzig there’d be no My Chemical Romance, without GWAR there would be no Slipknot, without The Cult there’d be no Guns ‘N’ Roses, without Korn you’d have no Linkin Park or Disturbed, without Masters Of Reality there would be no Kyuss or Queens Of The Stone Age, and without Alice Cooper there would be no Kiss, no Marilyn Manson, and arguably no Lady Gaga.

Moving on to the new kids on the block, with a host of new and new(ish) acts set to get tongues wagging and heads banging in 2011. Black Veil Brides, known for their distinct Kiss-inspired appearance, The Damned Things – a blend of Every Time I Die and 80s thrash heroes Anthrax, the Nevada post hardcore act Escape The Fate, LA rap-rockers Hollywood Undead and Kerrang! Magazine’s ‘Best British Newcomer’ 2010 award winners Rise To Remain – fronted by Bruce Dickinson’s son Austin – all jump into the fray and will be looking to win over the crowds at Download in June.

These acts join headliners System Of A Down and Linkin Park, plus Avenged Sevenfold and Rob Zombie. Weekend tickets and RIP packages for Download (at 2010 prices) are on sale now from www.downloadfestival.co.uk.

Fancy following in the footsteps of My Passion, Youmeatsix and Don Broco? If so 2011 could well be your year as once again Red Bull Bedroom Jam returns to the hallowed turf of Donington Park to give eight new artists the chance to play to the assembled rock masses. If you’re in a band, get your video uploaded now at www.redbullbedroomjam.com, and if you’re a fan, get promoting your favourite act to give them the chance to play Download, along with four of the countries other top festivals, have a live gig streamed out across the globe, spend two weeks recording in the Red Bull Studio London and get a much coveted support slot on a major rock tour.

To coincide with this latest announcement, the official Download Festival website – www.downloadfestival.co.uk – has just been re-launched, and comes full to the brim with exciting digital Download goodies.

As well as a brand spanking new homepage, you’ll find news about the bands playing the festival, detailed pages with info about all the artists on this year’s line up, photo galleries and video content from previous Download festivals, and of course all the essential information you need to know about this year’s festival.

Portishead confirmed for Exit Festival 2011

Named after Geoff Barrow’s hometown, Portishead consists of Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley and are widely known as the purveyors of trip-hop which is resounding in their three albums, most recognizable from their 1994 debut Mercury Music Prize album Dummy which set the bar of many imitators over the years. This album not only distanced themselves from the dominant Brit-pop sound of the time with hit singles Glory Box and Sour Times, but equally pushed the trip-hop sound with their soon to be trademark elements of cool jazz, acid house and atmospheric dark beats. Gibbon’s irresistibly melancholic, yet enchanting voice created aesthetics a far cry from anything that was trendy. Completely unexpectedly, this album was a great commercial success hailed by both critics and audiences alike, resulting in winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.

1997 saw the release of their second album Portishead with the single All Mine, and after the release of their live album recorded with New York Philharmonics the next year, they retreated, remaining low-key until the end of 2008. Very few bands have the ability to release a come-back album after ten years and make it loved by critics and audiences again, yet in April 2008, Portishead released their third album, aptly named Third. Once again their wide appeal was proved with great ratings by all the discerning music media, even with the media shy band members. NME rated the album 9/10, trend-setting Pitchfork labeled it one of the best albums of the year, and Thom Yorke deemed it ‘beautiful’ and ‘the best album in their career’.

Portishead are evidently as influential to their peers are they are to their fans, recently inspiring The Horrors and curating All Tomorrow’s Parties in London. Their fourth album is set to be released in 2011, again no doubt pushing new boundaries. Their performance at EXIT is eagerly awaited and will be sure to send a wonderous energy throughout the night!

EXIT 2011 also plays host to over 400 performances on 20 stages connected by cobbled streets, ramparts and tunnels – a walk through the mystical fortress is like a trip through a magical wonderland. Music ranges from rock, dance, indie, Latino, reggae, electronica, chill out and regional music, so there is no better festival in the world that brings you so much value and so much variety! EXIT is still the coolest, most adventurous and best value for money festival experience in Europe for the discerning festival goer. Offering more entertainment, easier and cheaper travel options, stunning weather and an atmosphere unlike any other festival, ensure it’s on your list of things to do 2011!

2011 will also see pre & post EXIT events happening in the city of Novi Sad and Belgrade, so festival go-ers can spend longer in Serbia experiencing the warmth of the Serbian people whilst having fun and seeing new sights and cities. It’s an adventure and festival in one!

EXIT also understands the financial situation is still difficult for many and students more-so than ever before and therefore are keeping the ticket prices as low as possible this year. The First Release tickets are still cheaper than any UK festival at only £89+b/f but there is a capped number of them. Once the first release are all sold out, from then on Second Release ticket price will rise to £105, so buy tickets early and save 15%! Plan B to open up Ibiza Rocks & Mallorca Rocks season!

Due to the overwhelming success of Ibiza Rocks, which launched in 2005, the pioneers of Ibiza’s live music scene expanded with the opening of the Mallorca Rocks Hotel last summer. Having kicked off with five smash hit headline gigs from The Kooks, Calvin Harris, The Courteeners, Dizzee Rascal and Pendulum, Mallorca Rocks quickly soared to success and due to phenomenal public demand, Mallorca’s No. 1 youth hotel and gig destination will mirror Ibiza Rocks with seventeen weekly gigs in 2011.

The bands will tear it up on Tuesday’s at Mallorca Rocks before bounding across the Balearics to the ground-breaking Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio for another umissable gig at Ibiza Rocks, which is making the very most of midweek with an all new Wednesday slot. That’s seventeen weekly gigs in Mallorca AND Ibiza. It’s official; the Ibiza Rocks Brand is taking over the Balearics.
