We promised you big news and we’re giddy with excitement to reveal the first headliner for our ninth annual shindig – but the stellar supporting cast is taking shape too…

Bellowhead have been voted Best Live Band at the BBC Radio Two Folk Awards an unparalleled FIVE times! The 11-piece band, complete with brass section, bagpipes and bouzouki, are sure to be one of the highlights of Green Man 2011.

The Burns Unit is a new “carnival rock/pop supergroup” featuring our old friend King Creosote, ex-Delgados singer Emma Pollock and Scottish indie legend Future Pilot AKA. Not to be missed.

Villagers released the Mercury-nominated Becoming A Jackal on Domino Records last year, a spine-tingling debut album packed with gripping poetry and spine-tingling melodies.

Wild Nothing – aka Jack Tatum – counts My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins as influences for his dreamy synth-pop songs, while Sic Alps bring some lo-fi, Pavement-esque experimentalism to the party from across the pond.

Polar Bear need little introduction, led by drummer Seb Rochford and featuring members of Acoustic Ladyland, electronics whizz Leafcutter John and one of the greatest saxophonists in Britain.

Robyn Hitchcock is one of England’s best-loved songwriters, a cult hero who has played with the likes of Nick Lowe, Gillian Welch, Graham Coxon and REM’s Peter Buck over a varied 30-year career.

All of this plus hotly-tipped newcomers and old favourites alike, including: Ellen & The Escapades, Our Broken Garden, Emily Barker, The Gentle Good, 2:54, The Travelling Band, Bleeding Heart Narrative, The Ramshackle Union Band, Mancub Babywoman and more!

Why not join them in the Brecon Beacons on August 19-21?

Trust us, this is just the beginning.

The message board and Facebook page are going mad with requests of who you want to see play at Green Man 2011.

Limp Bizkit return for Sonisphere Knebworth 2011

Armed with new songs off of the forthcoming “Gold Cobra” album, the appearance marks the first opportunity for fans to hear the new songs live in this country, as well as smash hit singles like “Rollin”, “Nookie”, “Break Stuff”, “My Way” and many more.

The last time THE SISTERS OF MERCY played at an outdoor UK festival, shell-suits were being swapped for baggy jeans, home taping was the biggest danger to the recording industry and the world wide web had just been made publicly available on the internet for the first time. A lot has changed since then, but the unclassifiable blend of rock, pop, punk, dance and psychedelia that THE SISTERS OF MERCY are famous for has stood the test of time, becoming classic in its own right. It is with huge pride and excitement that we welcomeTHE SISTERS OF MERCY to SONSIPHERE for this rare festival appearance – their first in the UK in 20 years – and the midnight outing of unforgettable songs such as “Dominion”, “Temple Of Love” and “This Corrosion”.

Welsh rockers KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES join the SONISPHERE line up this year. As an unsigned band, KIGH garnered a huge amount of support from the rock press and media, more than many established bands could hope for. Having played alongside the likes of Lostprophets, Manic Street Preachers, 30 Seconds To Mars and many more , demand for the band was stratospheric by the time their debut album was released in 2008. In the few short years since then, their ascent shows no sign of slowing down and with work on a new album set to commence in the near future, there’s a chance fans at SONISPHERE could be hearing some brand new tracks alongside favourites such as “Me Me Me”, “Easy Tiger”, “Give Me What I Want” and “Matters At All”.

GALLOWS are no strangers to SONISPHERE, having lain waste to BOHEMIA last year. It’s been quite a year for the Watford punks; performing at RATM’s victory parade in London, secret sets at Reading and Leeds and revisiting their roots on the “Back To The Dives” tour, culminating in an extremely moving and emotional set at London’s Electric Ballroom at the end of last year. In 2011, the beast is being freed from the cage, with GALLOWS leaving the tent behind for the great outdoors. Guitarist Lags comments:

Now we’re playing outdoors which means there’s even more space for you, yes YOU, to get wild with us on the Saturday.”

Towards the end of 2003, the UK lost one of its most prized possessions when ONE MINUTE SILENCE announced they were taking an indefinite break. With a fanbase built largely on the reputation of their live shows where anything could (and did) happen, where roofs were once raised and walls shook with the raw energy of OMS’s politically charged alt-metal their absence was felt in venues across the country,. Now, after an eight year hiatus, ONE MINUTE SILENCE return to fill the void at SONISPHERE. Frontman Yap warns:

“Been too long. Missing the pit, missing the vibe, missing the fans. Time for round two. Unfinished business. Expect mayhem.”

Having performed at numerous shows on the European leg of SONISPHERE 2010VOLBEATmake their KNEBWORTH debut this year after being forced to cancel last year’s scheduled UK tour. Frontman Michael Poulsen can hardly contain his excitement:

“We’re delighted to be at Sonisphere in the UK this Summer; we did appear at some of the Sonisphere events in Europe last year, playing on the same bill as The Big 4, which was an amazing experience. And now we feel like spoilt kids cos we’re getting the chance to do it all over again in the UK! This show means a lot, because we had to cancel the UK tour we had lined up late last year. We were really upset not to be able to come over, but I saw the doctor after a show in Hamburg and he advised me not to continue with the tour – I was having terrible pains in my chest and down the left side of my body, I could hardly breathe… Anyway, we’re back on track now – see you at Sonisphere!”

Making their only UK festival appearance of 2011, French metal powerhouse GOJIRA join the line up at SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH. With sonically dense sounds and bludgeoningly heavy rhythms, GOJIRA have let their music do the talking, working their way through the underground while prolific contemporaries champion their cause, resulting in tours alongside the likes of Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom and even being hand-picked by Friday night headliners METALLICA to support them on their US tour in 2009. Their set at KNEBWORTHpromises to be one of the hardest hitting of the weekend, and one not to be missed.

Homegrown heroes InMe return to SONISPHERE this year, after having had such a blast last year. “We’re honoured and absolutely over the moon to be returning to Sonisphere!” say the band, who ended 2010 performing all four studio albums in their entirety at four separate sold out shows. “The show last year was easily one of the best times we’ve ever had as a band and we hope to step things up even more in the Bohemia Tent this year. People overuse the word ‘epic’ but last year’s Sonisphere weekend was exactly that, in capitals. EPIC! Colossal love to all of the Sonisphere team from InMe!”

Fresh off a UK tour with Darkest Hour, Canadian prog-metal mentalists PROTEST THE HEROcome to SONISPHERE for the first time, armed with a heap of new songs from the forthcoming “Scurrilous” album, released next month. Guitarist Tim Millar states:

“We haven’t played many festivals in Europe and hear so many amazing things! I’m stoked to be a part of Sonisphere and getting a full European festival experience this summer. Not to mention all the great bands we will be performing alongside”

SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH
takes place 8th – 10th July 2011 at KNEBWORTH HOUSE. For tickets and more info go to www.sonispherefestivals.com

Pendulum to headline SW4 2011

2010 was a defining year for SW4. For the first time, we took over Clapham Common for a whole weekend. The likes of Fatboy Slim, Armin Van Buuren, Carl Cox, Boys Noize, Andy C and Skream & Bengacemented South West Four as the UK’s premier inner-city festival A prime showcase of the best dance talent, we return – literally bigger, better and louder! It’s the bank holiday date of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th August, where the clubbing fraternity will once again congregate al fresco. There is no better way to end the Summer, with both EXCLUSIVE headliners confirmed.

YOUR SW4 SUNDAY HEADLINERS ARE…
PENDULUM
[FULL LIVE SHOW]
[EXCLUSIVE LONDON APPEARANCE OF 2011]

“We have seen the support bill for the festival and it’s absolutely massive. Can’t wait to play this event!” Rob Swire (Pendulum)

For nine years, Pendulum have fused ideas from a plethora of musical genres. With gigs on all six continents, the trio understandably caught the ‘Blightly’ bug – now calling London home2005 saw debut album‘Hold Your Colour’ storm the charts, following up with ‘In Silico’ and latest offering ‘Immersion’, all equally as devastating.

Pendulum’s main draw is their live showJaw dropping manipulation of beats, which became folklore of Glastonbury, Leeds, Reading, Pukkelpop, Monegros, Bestival, Ultra and and T in the Park. However, last year’s performance alongside Prodigy at MK Bowl – superseded all that went before. Pure genius that succeeded in uniting all EDM lovers as one.

Continuing the trail of destruction2010 saw the acclaimed ‘Immersions’ tour sell out Wembley Arena, pushing production and visual boundaries. This success led to plans for an upcoming tour Stateside, with none other than Linkin Park. For their ONLY London show this year, Pendulum close the South West Four Weekender, one of the most sought after slots in festival land….

Kreator, Wolf and 1349 for Bloodstock 2011

German Thrash legends KREATOR return to BLOODSTOCK this year for their only UK show of 2011 on the RONNIE JAMES DIO stage. Alongside fellow countrymen Destruction and Sodom – both BLOODSTOCK veterans – KREATOR dominated the European Thrash scene of the mid 1980’s, working their way from the grimy streets of Essen to international acclaim. 30 years in the business has done nothing to soften the fearsome foursome, and we look forward to a furious set of thrash classics including “Pleasure To Kill”, “Betrayer”, “Tormentor” and “Extreme Agression”.

Joining them will be Black Metal overlords 1349, who make their BLOODSTOCK debut this summer. Something of a supergroup, 1349 specialise in the super fast, raw metal blackness that their home country of Norway is notorious for. Formed from the ashes of Alvheim in 1997, 1349’s speed and technique took their music to a new level of intensity and brutality, in turn leading to an impressed Frost of Satyricon – who was asked to lay down the drum tracks to get the speed required – to join as a permanent member. With live sets famed for their raw aggression and evil atmospherics, the shadow that 1349 will cast over BLOODSTOCK this summer is one no fan of extreme music will object to standing in.

From neighbouring Sweden, true metal heroes WOLF return to BLOODSTOCK for some kick-ass, honest, grab-you-in-the-nuts heavy metal. After releasing their debut album, “Wolf” back in 2000, the band toured relentlessly and destroyed the major festivals gaining them more and more followers and success. Over 15 years later, with five albums under their belts and a new one set for an April 2011 release, the Swedish powerhouse look forward to their third appearance at BLOODSTOCK, for this exclusive UK festival appearance. The band look forward to their third trip to BOA:

Bloodstock Open Air!!!! Hell yeah we say. It’s an honor to return for the third time and as always; we’ll give you 666%. With the new album, ‘Legions of Bastards’ fresh outta hells mouth, we’ll be blasting you off the goddamn planet. Us included. See ya frontrow. –WOLF

Next up, Rock’n’Roll dirtbags NEMHAIN return to deliver a dose of whiskey fuelled blues stained punk rock mayhem and have already started their preparations for BOA 2011:

Last time Nemhain played Bloodstock, the sky turned black, Thor’s hammer sounded, and the mother of all storms descended just as we went onstage. That however, was nothing compared to the soaked and rabid crowd who came to be deafened during our set and join the Nemhainous afterparty!

We love Bloodstock and are honoured to be on the bill again and especially to be playing the S.O.P.H.I.E stage. In fact, we’re so excited, we’re packing already: Drums: Check, Guitars: Check, Jagermeister: Check, Alka Seltzer: Check, Dodgy blow-up doll: Check …

Joining them Newcastle metallers DEF-CON-ONE will be joining the line up on the SOPHIE stage. Formed by ex-Venom drummer Antton, DC1 look forward to delivering a powerful set of groove crushing metal this August.

All we can say is how excited we are to be playing bloodstock and its gonna be an absolute honour to play the fest. Bloodstock always has killer bands on the bill and we can’t wait to be apart of it.

Finally, Finnish death metallers SURVIVOR ZERO, come to BLOODSTOCK for the first time. Formed by noted Finnish Metal Producer and video director Sami Jämsen, the line up is completed by other metal lifers who had paid their dues in Finnish heavy-weights as Finntroll, Deathchain, Impaled Nazarene and The Scourger. Describing their music “heavy death metal”, the band has always aimed for great songs instead of image, crushing live shows and straight up honesty in their music. Says the band:

Survivors Zero is proud to have the chance to perform at Bloodstock, the greatest festival on the misty isles.

Tyde

Folk by the Oak, the bite sized acoustic music festival, is returning to the leafy grounds of Hatfield Park in Hertfordshire for its fourth year on Sunday 24 July 2011 with another smasher of a line-up.

It’s a relaxed sort of affair; the organisers are happy for you to bring your own food and drink along, and it’s a comfy leafy site with one main stage so you can pick a grassy spot for the day and kick back. The ‘Queen Elizabeth Oak Field’ where it is held is said to be the very place where, sat underneath one of the ancient oaks, Queen Elizabeth I learned of her accession to the throne, so there’s even a bit of history to absorb yourself in. And as well as a stellar line-up there will be all the usual stalls and activities to enjoy between sets, including a craft tent, workshops, children’s activities, storytelling, circus skills, real ale bar, music stalls, recycled gifts and delicious food.

You can buy tickets at the website www.folkbytheoak.com or by calling 01432 355 416. The festival has held last year’s prices until 1 April, so get your tickets early and pay just £31 per adult for this great day out (£33 per adult from 1 April). Family and group discounts are also available.

Solfest 2011 update

This beautiful setting has been the host for the last seven years to an eclectic mix of both well-established and emerging artists from all over the world, as well as an interesting array of walkabout acts and local talent.

This year’s line-up will be announced in the spring, though previous acts to appear include punk, Britpop, dance and indie legends The Charlatans, James, The Wonderstuff, Supergrass, The Proclaimers, The Orb, Sham 69, The Bees, Buzzcocks, The Levellers, Utah Saints, The Magic Numbers and The Damned.

Solfest is ran almost entirely by a group of volunteers whose aim has always been to create a festival where all generations of family can relax together, where young and old can find entertainment around every corner. “We love it when grandparents bring their grandchildren along to the festival, there is always plenty of excitement for everyone” say the event’s organisers, “we devote a third of the festival site to the children’s area where workshops and entertainment are aimed at entertaining and occupying our young festival goers”. It’s a festival that a family can uncover together, or split off and have individual journeys in dance, discovery and playful drama.

In 2011, there will be a whole program of activities away from the music to keep people’s minds a million miles away from the normality of their day to days, and whether that be dropping into one of the many session tents around the site or visiting one of Solfest’s healers for a massage – there really is a way for everyone to escape.

“The relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere at Solfest is what the festival goers bring to the event”, say organisers. This summer Solfest would like to repay its audience by introducing some new elements to the four day gathering. “You’ll find an interesting and exciting mix of music and acts as well as some changes to the arena field, aiming to make your journey through the site like never before”.

General tickets for the festival will be on sale in the spring. Solfest have managed to keep ticket prices fixed at 2010 prices. At a time when everything seems to be increasing in price it was important to Solfest to keep their tickets at an affordable level, and now with the added incentive of the Early Bird tickets going on sale on the 1st of February, it really is affordable for all.

There is a variety of ways you can purchase tickets. Walk up ticket sales are available from all branches of the Cumberland Building Society and The Carnegie Theatre in Workington where tickets can be bought over the phone via 01900 602122. Tickets are also available via the all new website at www.solfest.org.uk

Nozstock Festival update

Now an established, leading family event in its 13th year, Nozstock is a sonic escape boasting eight main stages of entertainment with surprising sights and intimate, secluded areas of theatre and discovery to be unearthed.

When its visitors down tools and hand themselves over to the laid back atmosphere of the event for three pleasure-filled days, there’s a small world of frivolity to find, all scrupulously programmed by the festival’s founders, the Nosworthy family and their eclectically-informed friends.

The festival’s ethos is about bringing play to everyone, in whatever form it can. Nozstock believes in the value of not only entertaining, but in particpation and contribution. Above all, Nozstock: The Hidden Valley is a blissful family festival that caters to all ages with activities that little ones can enjoy as well as families en bloc, keeping in the spirit of those early days.
Quote from Farmer Pete Noz:Chaos at Nozstock this year? No chance! – we’ve built new roads though the site. There’s also going to be a new sound system in the Cubicles and we’re going for a full 3 days all at last year’s prices. We’ve had great feedback about our campsite but for those who want to go up market there’s boutique camping in bell tents, tipis and of course showers for the dirt-shy. We’re also developing some green plans that we’ll announce over the coming weeks. Nozstock is well known for its unique atmosphere and handmade vibe, that won’t change but there’s more colour, more to do and more walkabout performance, plus we’ve decided on a ‘Twisted Carnival’ theme this year to really get the punters looking lively. So come on down to The Farm and party till the cows come home!

NEW FOR 2011:

This year’s theme : ‘Twisted Carnival’. Festival friends are encouraged to dress up in the brightest, eye-catching outfits they can procure. The theme should inspire all sorts of warped imaginations. Be bold, be free, be you.!

Nozstock’s home-grown bars will offer the Wye Valley’s favourite brew Butty Bach, local Kingston Rosey & Press ciders… the usual spirits, lagers, wines and homemade cocktails, embellished with our own special ingredients. We try to keep as close to pub prices as we can.

Food will be sourced locally where possible. An eclectic mix from around the world to stimulate the tastebuds. For carnivores there’ll be the delicious Hog on the Spit, tasty burgers and there’s healthy vegan and veggie options too.

FACILITIES:

New roads after the year of rain so easy on and offsite access.

New beefy soundsystem in the Cubicles for the dnb & dubstep.

Boutique camping & tipis.

Nozstock Supermarche selling all useful supplies for the festival camper.

Official Merchandise (hoodies, tshirts, lighters, programmes)

Workshops – free standing, comedy, theatre, arts & crafts, kids…

Arts & craft area with sculptures

Little Wonderland Kids’ Area – all weekend entertainment for 12s and under.

Jamming round the wood fire

THE ARENAS AND STAGES:

Nozstock’s main arena, The Hidden Valley, is landscaped around a ramshackle Tudor farmhouse which sits on the side of the Valley in the centre of the festival site. It’s nestled against The Garden Stage, which hosts an array of eclectic bounce-inducing artists with an electronic turn post-sundown. The Orchard boasts the bigger names and good rollicking party bands as the Bandstand offers experimental electro-acoustica from diverse and unsigned artists.
The converted cowsheds include the Cubicles, sub-thumping drum ‘n’ bass and dubstep, to be found aside the Bullpen, knees-up housey beats and alternative dance. The Coppice’s luminous sounds from veterans of psytrance Tribe of Frog are the blissful converse to the Bantam of the Opera Theatre which explores another world with live performance, workshops and after-dark experimental cabaret while Laughing Stock bills prime-time comedians and up-and-comers, providing raucous chuckles and proper belly rumbles.
Shenanigans for the mini-festivaler occur off the beaten track and over the bridge where the Dingle is programmed with workshops aplenty and theatrical splendor, where opportunities abound to get interactive and remember how to play like only kids know how.
You can also catch a late night short film or music video from the mesmerising screenings on offer in the Cinetent, or grab some delicious local fare and a cocktail and take a tour round the site, letting your curiosity get the better of you.
In essence, Nozstock: The Hidden Valley is your chance to romp throughout a weekend of guilt-free debauchery and indulge in a medley of eye-opening encounters.

Gates open at 10am from Friday 29th July. Shuttle services will be on offer from local town Bromyard and to and from Hereford and Worcester before and after the festival.

SOS 4.8 Festival adds Patti Smith, The Kooks and Tiga

SOS 4.8 festival is the first confirmed live date for The Kooks in 2011. The band, set to be releasing the third album imminently, will showcase their new material to the SOS 4.8 crowds. SOS 4.8 will also be Patti Smith’s first festival appearance in 2011.

Having already confirmed Suede, MGMT, These New Puritans (Hidden Live), White Lies, Editors, Everything Everything, !!!, Two Door Cinema Club and We have Band, this year’s SOS 4.8 festival offers one of the strongest line-ups across the European festival circuit. In addition to the music, the festival also offers a space for Contemporary Art Exhibitions, Conferences and Workshops.

Under the names ‘Art’ and ‘Voices’, this year the sections will look at Dance Culture. Contemporary artists will explore the relationship between music, sex, drugs, night life, money, beauty and youth through their work. In a conference, Jeremy Gilbert and Ewan Pearson, authors of ‘Dance, Music, Culture and the Politics of Sound’, will analyse the basic elements of Dance Culture, its derivations and current state.

More exciting bands, events and activities will be announced soon!

SOS 4.8 is an urban festival that takes place in city of Murcia, South East Spain. Previous editions sold out and have included acts such as Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip, The Horrors, PJ Harvey, The Prodigy, Peaches and 2ManyDJs.

The festival takes the name from its commitment to sustainability. The 2010 edition was awarded with a ‘Green and Clean Award’ from ‘A Greener Festival’, an independent body that assesses the green credentials of major music events.

The 30,000 capacity two day festival offers two day tickets and accommodation packages through their website. To book visit: http://www.sos48.com
