Drum n’ Bass overlord Sub Focus has been packing dance floors since 2003 and was Pendulum’s warm up DJ on their last tour. The sheer audaciousness of his maximalist approach is guaranteed to stimulate and stun audiences with dance floor destroying tracks and Bristol is ready for some serious drum n’ bass action.
As ever we have a cavalcade of high time hilarity in store at Camp Bestival with a side-splitting collection of the best comics on the circuit. Heading up this year’s line-up is comedy prodigy Jack Whitehall. At just 22 Jack is already a veteran comedian with sell out shows across the country and regular TV appearances on BBC1’s Live at The Apollo, Royal Variety Show, Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Mock the Week Channel 4’s Stand Up For The Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats, as well as having an enviable stack of awards and distinguished nominations to his name, including being the youngest ever comedian to make the finals of the prestigious Laughing Horse New Act competition.
Jack Whitehall said: ‘I’m really looking forward to Camp Bestival in July. It’s the only festival I am doing this year and I know it’s going to be brilliant. I really want to see Beardyman, the things that he can do with his mouth are amazing! He is by far one of the best live acts around! Hopefully after you have seen as much comedy as you can muster, join me at the front of Beardyman for a mosh.’
Joining Jack on the comedy bill will be former Best Newcomer Perrier Award winner and Britain’s funniest Milton, Milton Jones whose recent 2011 show, The Lion Whisperer, sold out across the country, Argumental team captain and Radio 4 stalwart Marcus Brigstocke, Andrew Maxwell, who is no stranger to the Camp Bestival crowd, Canada’s Craig Campbellwho wowed crowds supporting former Camp Bestival comedy headliner Frankie Boyle on tour last year and erstwhile Cyderdelic eco-warrior Barry Castagnola. There will also be Chortle Best Newcomer Seann Walsh, the one and onlyRobin Ince, the inimitable Andre Vincent and the much lauded trio Comedy Club 4 Kids.
We’ve just had some great news and are literally jumping for joy that the one and only Shrek will be making his Camp Bestival debut in a UK Festival exclusive. Nominated for eight Tony Awards, the star of Shrek the Musical will be joining Mr Tumble, The Gruffalo, the ZingZillas and Sooty in a stellar line-up that is guaranteed to thrill kids of all ages.
Camp Bestival never comes up short when it comes offering superb sustenance whatever your mood but this year we have some very special new additions to our vast array of gorgeous grub including Kerstin Rodgers’ The Underground Restaurant. A super cool, supper club – brought to you by the foodie’s foodie and ex-NME photographer, Kerstin Rodgers – The Underground Restaurant will offer a set menu of unusual but hearty cookery for three sittings a day – lunch, dinner and a midnight feast – all served up with vintage mismatched crockery, glassware and table linen by waitresses in vintage French pinnies. The ‘Queen of Baked Goods’ and cake-maker to the stars, Lily Vanilli will be whipping up a very special recipe this year. All Camp Bestival kids have the chance to design their very own Medieval cake and Lily will transform the winning idea into a giant, spectacular cake. Everyone who enters a drawing of their design into the competition will be invited to a special tea party on Sunday afternoon where the cake masterpiece will be revealed and you’ll get to try a slice!
Lily says: ‘I can’t wait to see all the Medieval cake designs from you guys – you can even tell me what sort of flavours you would like to taste and I’ll add them to the mix!’

One of the highlights of Camp Bestival 2009 was undoubtedly PJ Harvey’s spellbinding solo performance, so we are overjoyed that she will be joining us at our Isle of Wight shindig to play the main stage on Saturday night in a UK Festival exclusive. With her eighth studio album Let England Shake gaining universal plaudits and a recent Outstanding Contribution to Music award at the NME Awards, PJ Harvey is at the height of her powers so you can expect a seamlessly sublime set. Brighton’s own Maccabees are also due to make the journey across the Solent to join the party with a large dose of the grandiose indie-pop, as previously announced by Rob da Bank on Nemone’s BBC 6 Music show, Public Enemy will be bringing the noise with a hit-packed performance, the recently reformed Big Audio Dynamite featuring the legendary Mick Jones will be demonstrating just how influential their pioneering sound has become, Scottish post-rock behemoth Mogwai, whose recent ‘Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will’ album has seen them in their finest form are going to be mesmerising the main stage crowd and James Blake will be giving out the neo-dubstep crooning.
Multi-award winning chanteuse Kelis will unleash her dance-powered RnB, Noah & The Whale will be showcasing their last night on earth twisted electro-funk will be supplied by Chromeo, Paloma Faith’ssurreal theatrics are set to entrance and there will be surf pop aplenty from The Drums,. Grace Jones is undoubtedly one of the most iconic and cutting edge artists of our time, the imitable Jamaican born musician and style icon is firmly entrenched in pop culture history. Her distinct fusion of new wave, pop, reggae and R & B has seen her infiltrate night clubs for the past 30 years while her striking androgynous image scored her the enviable title of Andy Warhol’s muse. Renowned for her enthralling live shows Grace Jones at Wireless with Barclaycard is a must see performance.
Joining Pulp and Grace Jones along with the already announced TV On The Radio, Foals, The Horrors and Metronomy Kiwi quintet The Naked and Famousare winning serious praise. One of the most exciting, vibrant and interesting Antipodean acts to the hit the UK scene this past year their debut single ‘Young Blood’ became the first debut single by a Kiwi band to reach number one in their home country for 16 years. In the UK they were recently awarded a highly coveted place in the BBC’s Sound of 2011. Denver based group DeVotchKa also join Sunday’s line-up. Having developed a powerful distinctive sound, blending a variety of eastern European, Latin and US Southwestern music, with more mainstream rock and punk sounds. Their swelling powerful and reflective ballads, married with the tender crooning of Grammy-nominated front man Nick Urata, has seen the band create the evocative soundscapes for a growing list of films including four-time Academy Award nominated film Little Miss Sunshine, I Love You Phillip Morris and The Joneses. DeVotchKa’s latest studio album, 100 Lovers was released this month.
Sunday’s line-up now also boasts Texas singer-songwriter Roky Erikson, a living legend. His 1960s band, the 13th Floor Elevators, have been called the pioneers of psychedelic rock, influencing the likes of Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead, and later covered by REM, Primal Scream and even ZZ Top. Making a long-awaited and triumphant return to the recording studio last year after a 14-year hiatus, the imitable rocker released ‘True Love Cast Out All Evil’, a powerful biographical album of harrowing growl and grit which received widespread acclaim. Five years after their first appearance at Wireless with Barclaycard, LA bred female four piece The Like will be making a welcome return to the Hyde Park stage. With the release of their new album ‘Release Me’, produced by Mark Ronson, the group has developed an entirely new retro-neuvo sound, kindling significant buzz amongst the UK music press. Enigmatic London based duo Summer Camp are also confirmed and are set to bring their dreamy synth pop to the stellar Sunday line-up.
