Duran Duran set to headline Common People 2016

Set to take our two-day metropolitan jamboree by storm, the Common People crew are delighted to announce that Duran Duran will headline Common People 2016, topping the bill at Oxford’s South Park on Saturday 28th May and then providing a fitting finale for our Southampton Common shindig on Sunday 29th May.

Common People head honcho Rob da Bank says: “So, we were already off to a flyer with Common People selling out last year, announcing a second site this year, with our beautiful South Park location in Oxford, overlooking the dreaming spires, and now we’re putting the cherry on top with the news that Duran Duran will be headlining a day in each city! Icons of the last four decades the boys are still churning out hits and absolutely smashed it at our mothership show Bestival last year. I’m also delighted to announce Katy B will be joining the party. See you in the fields”.

Commenting on their headline performance, Duran Duran’s John Taylor said: “We are very honoured to be a part of this year’s Common People festival, we had such an incredible time at Bestival last year. It’s going to be a fantastic weekend! See you all there”.

A universal highlight of Bestival’s Summer of Love, Duran Duran took it to the next level on the Isle of Wight last year, so team CP just couldn’t resist bringing them to South Park to headline the first day of Oxford’s inaugural Common People and to wrap up our sophomore Southampton outing. One of UK pop music’s most successful and enduring bands, Duran Duran have provided the soundtrack to the lives several generations, from their early days in Birmingham’s Rum Runner formulating the sound that would give us Planet Earth and Girls on Film to their latest acclaimed album, Paper Gods, that returned them to the top ten winning them a whole new audience in the process.

Also joining Common People’s line-up on Saturday in Oxford and Sunday in Southampton is dance music trailblazer Katy B. Firmly at the forefront of the most recent wave of chart invading beat fanatics, Katy’s armoury of pop-rave bangers saw her last album taking the top spot, and with follow up Honey poised to be the soundtrack of this summer, you can guarantee she’ll hit the mark.

Both acts will be joining previously announced performers Primal Scream, Craig David, Public Enemy, Gaz Coombes, Ghost Poet, Kurupt FM, Hospitality, Ram Jam, and many more, plus there’s still a whole raft of bands, DJs and outlandish action to announce. For more information and ticket details head to http://commonpeople.net/.

Katy B, KT Tunstall and more join the Space themed Camp Bestival lineup

Joining our previously announced headliners Fatboy Slim, Tears for Fears and Jess Glynne, and Aliens Love Underpants, Dick and Dom and Mr Tumble, we’re over the moon to announce even more astronutters who will be joining Camp Bestival’s festi-holiday frolics at Space Camp Lulworth for a party that’s sure to be out of this world!

Rob da Bank says: “Prepare for lift-off my space brothers and sisters… we are T-minus 184 days and, whilst I’m busying packing dried food and spare pants for the trip to outer space, I’ve also been booking a load more bands and DJs. From Katy B and KT Tunstall, to London legends Squeeze, hip-hop royalty in the form of Arrested Development and the incredible afro beat of Seun Kuti, it’s a veritable smorgasbord of styles from around the world… and outer space! Can’t wait to see you at the launch pad!

We’re super-excited to welcome the queen of rave pop, Katy B, to Lulworth castle! A chart invading trailblazer, Katy’s beat-driven vignettes laid the foundations for a whole host of recent chart stars, and with brand new album Honey – the follow up to chart topper Little Red – set to soundtrack the summer, she’s a dead cert to blast us into outer space! We’ll also have stratospheric action from Scottish chanteuse KT Tunstall, London’s finest post-punk hit-machine Squeeze, enduring hip-hop troubadours Arrested Development, keepers of the Afrobeat flame Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, the UK’s most successful girl band ever Bananarama, turntable wizard DJ Yoda, singer-songwriter Jamie Lawson, chill out specialists Turin Brakes, acid jazz innovators Brand New Heavies, confessional rapper Loyle Carner, reggae queen Dawn Penn, Havana’s greatest gift to humanity The Cuban Brothers, and hobo-chic originator Duke Special.

And there will be plenty more intergalactic joys with Louis Berry, Rob da Bank & Tayo’s Prince tribute, Purple Rave, Sound of the Sirens, The Demon Barbers XL, Sound and Vision: A Celebration of David Bowie presented by Rob da Bank, Lizzie Ball and the Classical Kicks Orchestra, The Scorsese Agreement, Delilah Sisters, The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band, Circus Raj and Folk Idol.

Roskilde Festival announce LCD Soundsystem, MØ, Tame Impala and more

The reunited LCD Soundsystem will grace the stage at Roskilde Festival this summer and Danish popstar MØ will play an exclusive show on the iconic Orange Stage. Other announcements today include Tame Impala, Ghost, Chvrches and Destroyer.

With today’s additions, 53 acts of a total of 175 have been announced, revealing more of the already diverse line-up of headliners and the stars of tomorrow from all over the world.

New OrderPJ HarveyRed Hot Chili PeppersWiz Khalifa and Tenacious D are just some of the acts already announced for Roskilde Festival 2016. They will be joined by LCD SoundsystemTame ImpalaCHVRCHESSavagesDestroyerGhostFloating Points and many more.

LCD Soundsystem back after five years

2015 ended with rumours of a possible reunion, and early in 2016 the LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy finally confirmed that the band will be playing shows and recording a new album – their first album since 2010’s “This Is Happening”.

With their three albums from 2005-2015 the band created a unique blend of disco and punk-infused party rock, delivering hits such as Daft Punk Is Playing at My HouseAll My Friends and Drunk Girls. Following five years of silence, the party is set to restart at Roskilde Festival’s biggest stage, the iconic Orange Stage.

Head of Programme Anders Wahrén says:

“LCD Soundsystem’s reunion almost came out of the blue, and we didn’t dare to believe the initial rumours. We’re happy to be part of this reunion, presenting them for the third time at Roskilde Festival. Unlike many other bands, LCD Soundsystem pulled the plug at the very height of their success, and they won’t just play shows, they’ll also treat us to a new album. We’re fully convinced that they’ll live up to the massive expectations."

LCD Soundsystem played the Danish festival in 2007 and 2010.

Denmark’s biggest popstar

Danish popstar  has shown the world that one can rise to the top without compromises. Doing things her own way she’s turned into a bonafide pop star in her own right, smashing another record last year for “most streamed song ever” on Spotify with her single Lean On, co-written with Major Lazer and DJ Snake (more than 630 million streams).

At the beginning of her career, MØ was booked to play Roskilde Festival’s smallest stage, and she will now return to the festival where her pop star status was cemented. MØ is currently working on her second album.

The best of everything

New additions also include Australia’s very own Tame Impala, widely acclaimed electronic acts such as Floating Points and Recondite, post-punk favourites Savages, electro-pop highlight CHVRCHES, beloved sophisto-pop artist Destroyer and many more.

Jason Williamson from the band commented on their addition to the Field Day line-up: "We've been wanting to play Field Day for ages, it's a festival that always houses a great deal of interesting new music and not the usual bland array of star employees from big labels. Should be a right laugh!"

Field Day are also excited to announce the post-hardcore sludge-punk trio Metz, hailed as North America's finest touring rock band, their guitars are titanic, drums ill-tempered, vocals chilling and the volume worrisome.

Girl Band, the noise-rock quartet from Dublin have been praised for delivering visceral, invigorating music with nods to Daft Punk and Nick Cave. Their recent album Holding Hands with Jamie was recently included in Time Magazine's 10 Best Albums of 2015 poll.

Hailing from Chelmsford in Essex, Gold Panda started writing beats and producing a few years ago, beginning the journey that ultimately saw him nominated in the BBC's Sound Poll list and the Guardian's prestigious First Album Award for his debut album Lucky Shiner. Since then, he has released a follow-up album, Half Of Where You Live and toured the world to considerable acclaim.

Meanwhile, the Berlin based duo Tale Of Us bring their emotive deep house sound to Field Day. Hackney based singer songwriter and BBC Music 'Sound Of 2016' pick Nao, whose unique vocal tone draws a fusion of hip hop, soul and R&B to UKG, funk and jazz, plus Kelela, an artist known for her gorgeous off-kilter R&B vocals and chilly metallic production.

Rising stars performing at this year's event include the young and extremely talented singer songwriter Gillbanks and Polydor Records signing Mabel, who will bring her refreshing pop sound to Field Day Saturday.

In addition Wooden Wisdom & DJ Fitz will be responsible for an unforgettable set. Nile Rodgers to bring Fold Festival to London

Grammy-winning composer, producer, arranger, and guitarist Nile Rodgers brings his FOLD festival to the UK for three days in June. Curated and produced by Nile, Fold Festival is a music celebration spanning every popular genre and will be headlined by CHIC on each evening. The inaugural event took place at the scenic Martha Clara Vineyards in Long Island in August 2015 and the next instalment of FOLD will take place in the historic Fulham Palace in London this June.

FOLD festival is a unique event that will feature Rodgers and his multi-platinum band CHIC sharing the stage with music legends and contemporary trailblazers who have personally been invited by Nile to perform. Nile’s musical career has spanned 4 decades in which he has constantly traversing new musical terrain and successfully expanding the boundaries of popular music and his contact book reads like a who’s who of the most important musical innovators to the last 4 decades.

Chic mastermind and festival curator Nile Rodgers says:

‘I started FOLD Festival 4 years ago in Montreaux, Switzerland to pay tribute to the musicians that make me who I am: A collaborative ensemble composer, who knows how to throw party!’

The first night throws a spotlight on a truly incredible era of pop, with a stellar line-up of trailblazers responsible for some of the most creative and flamboyant songs in modern music. One of music’s outstanding voices, Alison Moyet will bring her critically acclaimed music to Fulham Palace to perform alongside Chic. The Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey will be playing the classic Thompson Twins hits. It will be the first time Tom and Nile have been on stage together since Live Aid in 1985 when Madonna sang backing vocals.

Saturday sees the celebrations embrace modern day pop, undeniably influenced by Rodgers acclaimed recent work for Daft Punk and Disclosure amongst others. John Newman perfectly encapsulates the modern day soul man, dominating the charts, airwaves and music collections of fans across the country and his unrelenting live show is set to be a true highlight of FOLD 2016. Having teamed up with Nile Rodgers on last year’s great single ‘Boomerang’, international pop star Emin will also be performing and makes a perfect addition to the bill. Reflecting not just the current stars but the future ones too, emerging newcomer Grace will take the stage, bringing the voice behind the phenomenal “You Don’t Own Me” to the hallowed grounds of FOLD 2016.

Sunday features the very best of funk, soul and everything in-between. Standing as an untouchable emblem of classic soul, Angie Stone will bring her unmatched vocal prowess to the stage delivering a set of acclaimed classics that show why Prince, Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo all sit as famous fans. Along with another masterclass in magic from CHIC, these names will be joined by acid-jazz pioneers Incognito, bringing an eclectic set of pulsating anthems to an evening like no other.
