Introducing Caught by the River Thames, a new London Festival

On the northern banks of the Thames, right where the dirty old river begins to roll out of the city sits Fulham Palace. It’s a best-kept secret in a city that’s not got many unturned stones left; a shortcut to verdant green space just west of the metropolis. An idle ten minutes walk from the tube, it’s somewhere that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled out of the city and into the countryside with the very minimum of effort. It’s the perfect place to host a festival.

This August, Caught by the River Thames will do just that. A remarkable new festival celebrating the very best in music, arts and the natural world, it promises to bring together a truly inspirational gathering of bands and brewers, authors and artists, thinkers and drinkers. Part gig, part literary gathering, part nature symposium, part high-summer garden party, Caught by the River Thames promises to the most diverse and inspirational festival line-up in the capital this summer.

Brought together by the people behind the much-loved website Caught by the River and visionary promoters Robomagic, the festival will bridge the previously un-spanned gap between mind-bending psychedelic rock’n’roll shows and Wildlife TV. Over two days, it will unearth archival London audio-history; provide poetry in the total serenity of a Victorian chapel; play host to jump-up party music from the four corners of the world and hold a low-impact, locally sourced Ten Mile Beer Festival.

Headlining the Lawn Stage on Saturday 6th are legendary Minnesota trio Low. Their masterful use of dynamics and ear for a striking harmony – never more beautifully captured than on last year’s ‘Ones and Sixes’ LP – make them one of the most captivating live acts on the planet. Topping the line-up on Sunday 7th are the peerless Super Furry Animals. Having returned to the live stage last year for a series of ecstatically received reunion shows, the band will be bring the very best of Wales to the banks of the Thames for this one-off London show.

Joining Low and the Super Furries will an array of artists from across the globe including: Beth Orton, Mulatu Astatke, the Sun Ra Arkestra, BE performing the London premiere of the album ONE, Laura Cannell, Ryley Walker, Darren Hayman (playing songs from his ‘Thankful Villages’ project), Gwenno and Jonny Trunk.

Across all the stages of the festival there will be talks and readings. Leading the speakers are Kate Tempest (in conversation with Miranda Sawyer and reading from her forthcoming debut novel) and one of the UK’s best-loved naturalists, Wildlife TV Presenter presenter Chris Packham. Joining them will be many of Caught by the River’s regular contributors including author Amy Liptrot (reading from her hugely-acclaimed debut The Outrun); activist and author of ‘The Wake’, Paul Kingsnorth and genius audio-historian London Sound Survey

Each day, the UK’s greatest independent publisher Faber & Faber will be presenting their own programme in the Faber Poetry Chapel. Florence and Virginia Astley will play rare live performances alongside readings from a selection of Faber New Poets and friends.

A full line-up for Caught by the River Thames will be announced in the coming weeks. This will include line-ups for stages from the Canal and River Trustthe Idler Academy, the Museum of British Folklore and the Caught by the River Bookshop as well as brewers represented in the Ten Mile Beer Festival and stalls in the global food court.

Legends Donovan and The Blockheads added to Chagstock 2016 lineup

CHAGSTOCK FESTIVAL organisers have confirmed that Rock N Roll & Songwriting Hall Of FamerDonovan will headline Friday night on the festival’s 10th Anniversary this July.

Donovan is a legendary Scottish Poet, folk-rock & pop-troubadour who has been an essential part of worldwide popular culture since signing to Pye Records in 1965. Best known for his signature song, ‘Mellow Yellow’, Donovan has recorded more than 27 albums, and his 1967 hit, ’Sunshine Superman’ (featuring Jimmy Page on Guitar and John Paul Jones on Bass) was a US No.1 single.

Over the course of his 50-year musical career, Donovan has performed with legends such as Pete Seeger, Joan Baez and Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin and Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones. He taught John Lennon & Paul McCartney the finger-picking guitar style, and performed on the recording of The Beatles’ ‘Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band’. He was also one of the few non-band members to co-write with The Beatles; collaborating on ‘Yellow Submarine’.
In addition to his induction into the Rock N Roll and Songwriters Halls of Fame, other awards that this unique songwriter and performer has been presented with include an Ivor Novello, a Fresh distinguished medal as “Officer of Arts & Letters”, A BMI Icon award, the MOJO magazine Maverick Award, A BBC Folk Lifetime Achievement Award and many more.

Live performance highlights are include sets at numerous historically important events including Monterey 1967, Newport 1965, Isle of Wight 1970, Bath Blues 1970 … and now of course Chagstock 2016, where he will be performing a ‘greatest hits’ set, along with his current band.

Also added to the Chagstock 2016 bill are The Blockheads. Formed in 1977 to promote Ian Dury’s album 'New Boots and Panties'. Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, Charlie Charles, John Turnbull and Mick Gallagher became known as 'The Blockheads'. Chaz composed 'Hit me with your Rhythm Stick' with Ian, which has sold more than 1 million copies to date, and reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart.

The last performance by Ian Dury & The Blockheads was February 6th 2000 at The London Palladium. At this point the band had to make a decision to either stop or continue. The choice was made and the band has continued making albums and touring the world. Now over a decade since Ian passed away, The Blockheads still perform to packed out venues around the world.

Saturday night at Chagstock will be headlined by none other than legendary post-punk band, The Stranglers. The Stranglers are one of the UK’s best loved bands, who have enjoyed a litany of hits across their incredible 42-year career, including ‘Golden Brown’, ‘No More Heroes’, ‘Peaches’, ‘Always the Sun’ and ‘Skin Deep’.

Other acts confirmed include the wildly popular Ferocious Dog, alt-folk six-piece Danny & The Champions Of The World, the BBC Introducingendorsed Cattle & Cane, a return performance from spellbinding Irish Folk/Blues troubadour Marc O’Reilly, and many more.

Taking place on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd July, Devon’s much-loved, family friendly, not-for-profit event will feature the biggest and most diverse line up in its 10-year history.

The theme for the wildly popular fancy dress day on Saturday will be ‘Legends’.

Set in 70 acres of farmland on the edge of Dartmoor, Chagstock is renowned for its stunning location, diverse line-up of artists and non-corporate, family friendly atmosphere. Chagstock showcases the very best music, food and entertainment that the Westcountry and the UK have to offer. Starting life as a small private party, Chagstock has now grown into a major fixture on the Westcountry festival circuit, selling out all 5,000 tickets for the last four years in succession. As introduced back in 2012, all children under 12 can attend the festival for free (ticket is required).

Last year’s festival was regarded by many as the best yet (“Chagstock has something special… other events should perhaps take note and try and emulate it” – efestivals) and featured memorable performances from the likes of Levellers, New Model Army, Seth Lakeman, Neville Staple, Molotov Jukebox and many many more

Simon Ford Chagstock Festival organiser says, “We are delighted that a band as huge as The Stranglers have agreed to perform at Chagstock this year, and we are very proud of the quality of the other acts announced so far as well…2016 really is set to be a vintage year for the festival. As always, you can rely on Chagstock for a non-corporate vibe, family friendly atmosphere and loads of great and varied music, food and entertainment”

Find Me In The Dark will offer an unrivalled programme of techno with Blawan and Surgeon headlining with their Trade moniker. Trade are joined by the tough and uncompromising sound of RødhådLegowelt's distinctive acid-tinged productions and blistering force from The Zenker Brothers, the bosses of the esteemed Ilian Tapes. The hefty deep layers of Kassem Mosse playing live will compliment the sharpness of Ron Morelli and Lobster Theremin stalwart Route 8 will spin a set of his trade-mark, melodic tracks. Copenhagen scenester Courtesy and Find Me In The Dark founder Asquith will be playing an opening sets.
Having stolen the show at last year's Found Festival, Chicago house originator Ron Trent will return for 2016 to play secretsundaze's arena alongside Theo Parrish and Detroit house royalty and 3 Chairs member Marcellus Pittman. Jazzy house maestro Linkwood will join the ranks alongside Mr Beatnick, plus secretsundaze's residents.

Art Of Dark bring a truly international lineup of forward-thinking sounds to the Brockwell Park all-dayer with a headline set from one-third of the RPR Soundsystem, Petre Inspirescu. Maayan Nidam and Vera Heindel will perform as Mara Tax and Binh will bring the sound of Berlin's underground scene, with supporting sets from Art of Dark favourite Francesco Del Garda and residents Colin Chiddle and Laurine

Bringing soulful sounds and rare grooves to Found Festival's lineup, Feelings have recruited house music icons Mood II Swing for one of their first UK shows in more than decade. Also making a rare UK appearance Wamdue Kids and Dream 2 Science join the billing alongside Maurice Fulton, representing an unmissable opportunity to see these 90s legends playing under one canvas.

Representing the next wave of producers and brining fresh sounds to Feelings' arena, Pender Street Steppers, Beautiful Swimmers, Daniel Wang and Kasra V will each take their turn behind the decks, with respected Feelings' residents Ryan, Gustave and Karl getting things warmed up.

In a move back to the egalitarian roots of dance music culture, there will be no VIP area at Found Festival 2016, with festival-goers able to enjoy all six stages of music throughout the day.

Found Series are proud to partner with mental health charity Mind for their 2016 festival series.
