Solange, Fucked Up and more added to Off Festival lineup

Dreamlike singers, hardcore emissions, electronic trances, psychedelic wipeouts, and… the one and only Zbigniew Wodecki. Everything is possible at OFF. Here's the next batch of artists that will perform at this year's festival – hold on tight!

Solange
It's no wonder that she's often compared to her older sister, some even call her – without a hint of malice ? the "Beyoncé of indie music", but you just need to open your eyes and ears to understand the Solange is a mature and independent artist. After two good LPs released by Interscope, she dazzled both critics and audiences with her EP called True, produced by Dev Hynes (who co-authored multiple songs with the likes of Florence and the Machine and The Chemical Brothers) and released under Terrible Records, a record label established by Grizzly Bear's Chris Taylor. It's pop music, with clear references to the sounds of the 80s, but with its own distinct personality and quality. Join us in dancing to the beat!

Solange

Zbigniew Wodecki with Mitch & Mitch Orchestra and Choir
At this year's OFF Festival, the one, the only, the legendary Zbigniew Wodecki himself will perform his iconic 1976 debut album – called Zbigniew Wodecki, of course. The titan of local venues scattered along the Vistula will be joined on stage by Mitch&Mitch, the most foreign band to ever form in Poland, whose members are hard at work making the music sound exactly as it did on the album, but better. For this special occasion an organist, a string quartet, and a two-person choir will be added to the Mitch&Mitch roster which already boasts nine members. That already tells you that they will be performing at the festival's biggest stage, as no other venue would accommodate that kind of ensemble.

Fucked Up
Whoever saw the band at the 2009 festival must surely remember the limitless energy, the bear-like posture, and the falling pants of Damien Abraham, the lead vocalist of the Canadian band Fucked Up. The hardcore fete of unfettered expression was one of the best shows of the 2009 festivals. This year's performance might even surpass the last one, as Fucked Up have been touring extensively for the past four years and will bring with them a host of new songs coming from their recent album, David Comes to Life. Don't come too close, unless you're willing to get down and dirty.

Julia Holter
Recording her material primarily in her bedroom and drawing inspiration from ancient Greek tragedies, this Nite Jewel collaborator has been compared by both fans and critics to Laurie Anderson, Joanna Newsom, and Kate Bush. Gigi, the third album of the LA-based artist, will be released probably before the festival and will feature a plethora of surprises.

Guardian Alien
Guardian Alien is headed by drummer Greg Fox, known for his exploits with Zs, Liturgy, and his collaboration with Dan Deacon, but this polyrhythmic mixture of psychedelia, African music, and extreme metal was probably cooked up with a little help from alien forces. The band sounds like turbocharged Hawkwind – well, we can't say that it sounds like Hawkwind on speed, now can we? Listen to See the World Given to a One Love Entity, the 40-minute-long album released by Thrill Jockey and containing just a single song and you'll quickly be convinced that Guardian Alien's performance just might be one of the festival's most amazing shows.

Buke And Gase
"Absolutely thrilling" – this Pitchfork claim is dead-on correct. The Brooklyn-based duo behind Buke and Gase serve an original mixture of folk sensitivity and avant-garde bravado. It's deliberate, but with more than just a touch of improvisation. Amazing, is what it is. They play unique, one-of-a-kind instruments, including a modified baritone ukulele, a gase, and foot-powered percussion instruments – and they sing beautifully, too. Get ready for their show by listening to their most recent offering, called General Dome.

John Talabot – Live
Media-shy producer and DJ from Barcelona – he's not keen on interviews and in most photographs, his face is hidden under a tinfoil mask. His debut album was released by the small German record label, Permanent Vacation. As it turned out, the material on fin was so good that the hippest clubs in London and New York tried to book his appearance, while The xx invited him to tour with them. His live performances seem to completely justify the hype surrounding the secretive musician.

Shackleton
One of the most original and intriguing figures of the British drum and bass scene, co-founder of the legendary, now-defunct Skull Disco label. Recorded the groundbreaking album Music of the Quiet Hour, which explored the no-man's land between minimal techno and dubstep. It's kind of hard to believe that dance music could be this dark? But we should expect nothing less from a musician who counts Can and Throbbing Gristle among his inspirations and who started his musical journey by playing in a punk band.

UL/KR
The most powerful and surprising debut since Niwei. The strangest mixture of uncomfortable, dark electronics and sing-song catchiness typical of the Land of Gentleness series. The LP released last year by the duo from Gorzów was widely – and deservedly ? considered to be one of the most important releases of 2012, while the band's most recent effort – Ament – is also garnering praise from critics and fans alike. We're happy to welcome UL/KR to OFF Festival: we're sure that they're going to feel right at home.

Hera
The band was founded by clarinetist and composer Waclaw Zampel, who is known for his collaborations with pre-eminent musical improvisers, including Ken Vandermark, Joe McPhee, and Miko?aj Trzaska. Although they're putting out records – like the incredible Where My Complete Beloved Is for example – live performances are their greatest strength. As the band itself stated, their "primary goal is to enter a sort of musical trance that would break down barriers between the stage and the audience and would enable spontaneous exchange."

Gowno
Please, don't be discouraged by the band's name (which translates into "Shit"). Gowno is not in the nicely smelling flower business, it's in the angry, insolent punk business. The band was founded in 2009 and has since released two official LPs – To nie jest kurwa Pink Floyd (This Ain't Fucking Pink Floyd) and Black Rodeo (2012).

Hokei
The band's roots can be traced to both Warsaw and Bydgoszcz. It comprises musicians from groups such as Ed Wood, Stara Rzeka, Alameda Trio, and Pictorial Candi. Hokei pays homage to kraut – and post-rock but it's also looking for its own place in the borderlands of guitar-percussion experiments. Their performance at OFF will coincide with the official release of their debut album, Zodiak.

Frozen Bird
Terry's Tale, the debut album of Warsaw-based Frozen Bird quartet released last year, was a very surprising mixture filled with dreamlike electronica, infused with subtle acoustics, and wrapped in fable-like lyrics performed in three

Legendary Bobby Womack to perform at Latitude

Joining Latitude as special guest for the eagerly anticipated Sunday lunchtime performance on the Obelisk Arena, Latitude’s Main Stage, is the legendary Bobby Womack, the godfather of soul and R&B. Womack’s career spans more than 50 years at the cutting edge, stretching right back to his discovery at the age of 10 by the legendary Sam Cooke. During his time he has penned Number One hits for some of the biggest bands in the industry, played guitar on some of the most enduring albums of the 20th century, including Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin’s Pearl, and released a series of ground-breaking albums that mixed soul, disco and rhythm and blues.

While his music enjoyed a revival in the late 90’s after Quentin Tarantino picked his 1972 song Across 110th Street as the theme for Jackie Brown, it wasn’t until 2009 that the world began to hear new Bobby Womack material. It was then he was tempted back into the studio and onto the live circuit by Damon Albarn, with whom he recorded Stylo and Cloud of Unknowing, two of the stand-out tracks from the hit 2009 album Plastic Beach by Gorillaz.

Bobby Womack

The Bravest Man In The Universe arrived in 2012, a powerful album of electronic gospel soul co-produced by Damon Albarn and XL Recordings’ Richard Russell, his first album of original material in 18 years. Rhapsodically received by critics and music-lovers alike, it has catapulted Womack back into the premier league of live and recording acts on the circuit today and his performance at Latitude is sure to be an incredible one.

The Sunday afternoon performance has previously been filled with some exceptional appearances from Joanna Newsom, Thom Yorke, Tom Jones, Scala & Kolacny Brothers and last year’s Rufus Wainwright. Latitude is overjoyed to add Bobby Womack to this exclusive list.

Latitude is excited to announce a superb addition to the Comedy line-up with one of comedy’s biggest stars, Eddie Izzard as a special guest. Izzard has been hailed as one of the foremost Stand-Ups of his generation. He takes ideas and situations and extrapolates them into bizarre tangential, absurd, and surreal comic narratives.  Ever since bursting into the public consciousness in the early 90’s, his brand of warm, surreal comedy has pushed the boundaries of British comedy in new and avowedly international directions, with Izzard even performing his sets in French. Eddie's musings have earned him countless awards including two Emmys.

A series of sell-out international tours and best-selling DVDs have been followed by a parallel career as an actor, with Izzard in high demand for film and TV work, including notable appearances in Ocean’s Twelve and Thirteen, Valkyrie and a guest appearance in The Simpsons. In 2009 Izzard ran an astounding 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief.

Izzard’s brand new comedy tour Force Majeure is currently touring the globe and will visit over 28 countries. His appearance at Latitude is an exclusive and a very rare opportunity for fans to see him in the setting of a summer festival.

Following sell-out shows and critical acclaim on their recent UK tour, BalletBoyz® The TALENT 2013 comes to Latitude.  Featuring 10 young male dancers from all over the UK who were hand-picked from open auditions, the company performs work by two internationally acclaimed choreographers: Fallen by multi-award-winning Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Russell Maliphant and Serpent by Liam Scarlett, First Artist at The Royal Ballet who has been hailed as one of the future's most promising dance-makers.

BalletBoyz® was founded by former Royal Ballet lead dancers Michael Nunn and William Trevitt in 2001; since then they have continually captured the zeitgeist, giving audiences something new and exciting with every production and, crucially, giving aspiring young male dancers the chance to be part of a remarkable dance company and an ever-developing entity.  BalletBoyz® made their Latitude debut in 2010 and are delighted to be back on The Waterfront Stage

NEW MUSIC NAMES

On the music line-up, the i Arena welcomes Brooklyn four-piece DIIV who will bring the melodic sound of their acclaimed debut LP Oshin to Suffolk and the sorrowful, introverted and entirely beautiful electronic R&B ofDeptford Goth will grace the stage. Continuing the tradition of showcasing the best in emerging musical talent, Latitude adds the beautiful and raw Torres, a 22 year-old singer-songwriter from Nashville playing songs from her self-titled debut album, plus the rhetorically charged and provocative Mancunian four-piece

M O N E Y, whose work has already drawn comparison with acts as various as Antony and The Johnsons and Joy Division.

On The Lake Stage will be the soulfully sung Danish electronica of , fast rising British bands will be represented by Wolf Alice, a hotly-tipped three-piece who blend folk and grunge to startling effect and Coves, a shoegaze pop-influenced duo. Latitude builds on the strong showing of Welsh artists at this year’s festival, welcoming Cardiff teen five-piece Joanna Gruesome who twin infectious boy-girl vocals with the influence of Dinosaur Jr. and The Pastels. Latitude is delighted to welcome back the darkly literate electro-pop of Gabriel Bruce to The Lake Stage, playing songs from his recently released debut album Love In Arms, and Iceland’s alternative pop starsRetro Stefson will recreate their hook-laden reinvention of 80’s and 90’s pop for the crowds.

Also on The Lake Stage will be the tropical pop reggae dub of Hollie Cook, the daughter of a Sex Pistol and an exceptional dub singer in her own right, she will be performing songs from her self-titled debut album and forthcoming album, both produced by Prince Fatty. Valerie June will recite her amalgamation of blues, folk, gospel, soul, Appalachian and bluegrass and festival goers can hear the haunting folk pop of Welsh harpist and singer Georgia Ruth.

Mark Lamarr’s God’s Jukebox is a Latitude highlight and 2013 promises to be another vintage year in the Film & Music Arena. Joining the bill as Mark’s guests will be lead singer of Squeeze Glenn Tilbrook and The Fluffers.  This is the first Fluffers performance in four years and they will be performing Squeeze and Tilbrook solo songs in their unique high energy punk/surf style. High-energy vintage rock ‘n’ roll and authentic wild surf comes from The Dustaphonics, plus deep soul’s funkiest new diva Hannah Williams and The Tastemakers, a 7-piece deep soul crew from London and the big-beat-meets-70’s-funk, jazz and soul sounds of multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer Lack of Afro.

James Rhodes, the virtuoso pianist who has attracted celebrity followers and widespread praise for his dedication to perform in non-traditional classical music venues, will continue this with a performance on Latitude’s floating platform, The Waterfront Stage. James has no formal academic musical education or dedicated mentoring. He has released four albums, all of which have topped the iTunes classical charts. In addition he presented a Chopin documentary for BBC4 and presented and performed in his very own television series James Rhodes: Piano Man on Sky Arts.

For a classical twist, and fresh from opening the recent FA Cup Final, is Opera group Amore who will be performing songs from their debut album Stand Together. Formed by four talented, charismatic and passionate Royal College of Music graduates, they have a modern take on the classics in the Film & Music Arena. Musician Boom Bip and artist Charlie White bring a new collaborative art/music project, Music for Sleeping Children, a series of dance tracks based on in-depth interviews of American teenage girls with accompanying photographic images.  Plus Josh Record, an up and coming London songwriter with a rare sense of intimacy, who has been compared to the likes of Ben Howard will perform. His new track ‘The War’ was described by Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe as “a remarkable record from a brand new artist, this is your future right here”, he is one not to be missed.

Appearing in the Outdoor Theatre is Grace Petrie performing her indie folk rock songs (a couple with an acoustic punk twist), playing the guitar and singing with a voice that has been likened by listeners to Laura Marling and Kate Nash.

Judging will be based on inventiveness with the theme, and songwriting. Social media interaction, comments and plays will also come into consideration, as a sign of fan engagement.

Homecoming show for Snow Patrol at Tennents Vital

Tennent’s Lager and MCD are thrilled to reveal that Snow Patrol will return to Tennent’s Vital this summer to play a massive homecoming show at Belfast’s Boucher Road Playing Fields onThursday 15th August. In a major coup for organisers, the band’s headline slot on the Day 2 of the festival will be their only European date this summerKodaline and Foy Vance have also been added to the bill for Day 2 of Tennent’s Vital.

Snow Patrol played the very first Tennent’s Vital back in 2002, returned to headline in 2006, and now they’re set to receive a local hero’s welcome when they bring their epic festival anthems back home to Belfast this August. The five-piece soared to international stardom after releasing their chart-topping breakthrough album Final Straw, which yielded the band's first top 5 hit, Run and bagged them the inaugural Ivor Novello for Best Album in 2004. Its multi-platinum-selling, smash hit follow-up Eyes Open featured the epic Chasing Cars – a huge hit which was hailed Best Song of All Time by Virgin Radio listeners, number one song of the noughties by Channel 4 viewers and became the most played song of the decade in the UK.

Snow Patrol

Hailed Irish Band of the Decade by Hot Press in 2009, they are recipients of an impressive array of Meteor Music Awards, including Best Irish Band (2005, 2007, 2010), Best Irish Album (Final Straw andEyes Open), Best Live Performance and Most Downloaded Song (Chasing Cars). Their long-awaited return to Tennent’s Vital promises to be an epic, unmissable occasion.

Dublin four-piece Kodaline have had a phenomenal start to the year, after going down a storm at SXSW and topping the Irish single charts with the smash hit single High Hopes. The group release their hotly anticipated debut album In A Perfect World this summer, and are sure to get the crowd going when they play Boucher Road Playing Fields this August.

Northern Irish singer-songwriter Foy Vance made a big impression with his 2012 release The Melrose EP, and is set to follow it up with his new album Joy of Nothing this summer. Celebrated for his thought-provoking, powerful lyrics and spine-tingling vocals, he’s been hailed as one of the finest song-writers to emerge from Northern Ireland in recent years.

Last month organisers revealed that US rock giants Kings of Leon will headline Day 1 of the festival (14th August), with more top acts set to be revealed by organisers in the coming months.

Nicola McCleery, Head of Marketing for Tennent’s NI, commented:
“Snow Patrol are huge favourites with the Tennent’s Vital crowd – they played our very first festival back in 2002, and blew everyone away with their headline set in 2006, which has gone down in Tennent’s Vital history as a truly seminal moment. They are one of the biggest bands in the world, and we can’t wait to welcome them back to home soil. Joining them will be Kodaline and Foy Vance, who we’ve also announced today, and the second day of Tennent’s Vital promises to be very special indeed.”

2000 Trees announce Xtra Mile Recordings takeover

Xtra Mile Recordings today revealed it will perform a takeover of the GreenHouse stage at the 2000trees Festival. The stage will feature numerous Xtra Mile acts playing special acoustic sets on Friday 12th July.

The Xtra Mile acoustic takeover includes Jim Lockey & the Solemn Sun, The Xcerts, Beans on Toast, Ben Marwood, Fighting Fiction, Emily Barker & the Red Clay Halo and Crazy Arm.

They join a line-up already packed with Xtra Mile acts playing full band sets, including Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls, Retrospective Soundtrack Players, Fighting with Wire (playing their last ever UK show) and Thursday night headliners Future of the Left.

Charlie Caplowe of Xtra Mile Recordings says: “We are thrilled to be spending a fun-filled weekend at 2000trees. It’s one of our favourite festivals of the year and we’ve got loads of our acts playing over the three days. Come and find us at the GreenHouse Stage on Friday for our Xtra Mile takeover. The summer can’t come soon enough.

Other acts confirmed to play GreenHouse sets on Friday include Oxygen Thief, Ady Suleiman, Charlotte Carpenter and Dan Heaver.

2000trees organizer James Scarlett says: “This is a one-off treat for all fans of Xtra Mile artists and it is fitting that we honour their contribution to new and underground British music in the year that their biggest act, Frank Turner, is headlining 2000trees.

We are music fans first and foremost and we run 2000trees to share our love of great music with like-minded festival-goers, so we cannot wait to see what will be a very special year for 2000trees.

2000trees has already confirmed Mystery Jets, Stornoway, King Charles, Funeral for a Friend, And So I Watch You From Afar, We Are The Ocean and INME, among the 80 acts on four stages over three days.

Frank Turner added: “Xtra Mile has backed me since the start and it has a deep love of new and underground British music, which is shared by the great guys at 2000trees who also booked me as far back as 2007. So this is undoubtedly going to be one of the highlights of my year.
