Panic in L.A. Roars Back with Rakim and DJ Jazzy Jeff Performing Live Together for the First Time Ever

Panic in L.A. Roars Back with Rakim and DJ Jazzy Jeff Performing Live Together for the First Time Ever

ORLOVE’s iconic ,genre bending, hip hop party Panic in L.A., returns after a four year absence, August 20th when the legendary pair of Rakim and DJ Jazzy Jeff perform on stage together for the first time ever. Under the newly launched banners of Orlove by Day and Orlove by Night, the electrifying ORLOVE collective is also set to host a series of already sold out boat and pool parties around L.A, including LAMP 8-Year Anniversary with Mark Farina, their Daft Disko, San Junipero – a unique Retrowave boat party, collaborations with Deep House Brunch and Genius Loci Festival, and much more between May 29th and September 18th. All this proves the game-changing American promotion is ready to bust out of pandemic hibernation in serious style.

Panic in L.A. is the hip hop arm of the ORLOVE brand and in the past, it has hosted beat-making royalty such as DJ Premier, Raekwon, Sango, Pomo, Mix Master Mike, Craze and Giraffage. It has been four years since the last Panic party but the wait has been worth it to get Rakim and DJ Jazzy Jeff on stage together for the first time in history with Thee Mike B of Banana Split Fame as support. Each Panic event to date has been a memorable throw down with next-level light and sound and incredible energy from the crowd.

These two are true hip-hop giants who have helped to define the genre over numerous decades. Rakim was of course one half of seminal duo Eric B & Rakim and is regarded as one of the most skilled and influential rappers of all time. Jazzy Jeff is the multi-talented producer, writer and DJ  who has won Grammys for iconic tunes like ‘Summertime’ as well as developing vital artists such as Eminem, Jill Scott and many more. Having them together on stage for the first time ever is set to be a true moment in hip-hop history.

ORLOVE only launched in 2016 but since then has blazed an incredible trail. The brand has been responsible for creating, crafting and partnering on some of the most sought-after parties in the U.S. and in 40 markets spanning over 250+ parties per year.  From West Hollywood HQ to the rest of the world, Orlove has championed rising stars as well as internationally renowned guests such as FKJ, Questlove, Nina Kraviz, DJ Premier, Holy Ghost!, Giorgio Moroder, Roy Ayers, Raekwon and many more. They have also partnered with numerous prestigious brands like Soulection, Dim Mak and Ministry of Sound to create experiences that bridge the gap between genres, fans and artists globally.

Despite the difficulties of the last year, the team has not slowed down. In 2020 they launched the online music series Under the Covers to showcase musicians around the world covering current, cutting-edge music, and already this year they have launched the online podcast On Top of The Covers, before now unveiling this mouthwatering run of parties. You can check On Top Of The Covers here. The podcast has since turned into a community with millions of views and thousands of subscribers, not to mention a monthly reach of approximately 2.5M across all social and email

Says Orlove’s Matt, “Extremely proud of the work our team has accomplished over the past year and a half while our events side of the business was on hiatus. Especially with things starting to open back up again, never have we been more focused with the direction of the ORLOVE brand as we continue to scale globally.”

May sees a special Memorial Day Weekend blowout with a first-ever deep house brunch sunset pool party at Catalina Classic Cruises, before a second during the day at Skybar at Mondrian. June includes a San Junipero Retrowave boat party full of cinematic, 80s-influenced dance cuts by some of the best Retrowave and Synthwave artists out there, plus Daft Disko, a house and disco party inspired by the famous French robots, as well as a Genius Loci Boat Party. A further boat party is planned for September with one and only house legend Mark Farina headlining LAMP’s 8 Year Anniversary on the 18th

There is much more to come from ORLOVE this year, but already the first wave of events is mouthwatering indeed.

Mathame unveil debut NFT collection: ‘Angel Alphabet’

Mathame announce debut NFT collection, Angel Alphabet, The First Metamyth –

They will also do a OVR Live Performance

Drop goes live on May 30th at https://foundation.app/mathame

Visit https://www.angelalphabetcollection.com for more info

As electronic artists, Italian techno duo Mathame considers technology to be the mother of their world. Having always wanted to cross the line between music and art, they are now about to do so in spectacular fashion with the launch of their very own Angel Alphabet NFT. Mathame will be donating a portion of proceeds from the sales to Carbon180 in their efforts to offset and reduce carbon emissions.

Mathame is an Italian techno pair who bring real depth of emotion to their grooves. They release on labels like Tale Of Us’s Afterlife, Sony/B1 and have a truly emotive and deep techno sound that’s full of melody. They are still riding high off the success of their globally acclaimed 2020 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and have recently launched a groundbreaking series of mixtapes that have been put together with a brand new A.I. algorithm developed to test the power of the new M1 processor architecture by Apple. “Old Neural Mixtape Vol.1” landed in March 2021, with further installments to follow throughout the year. But now they lead from the front with this game-changing new multi-media NFT project.

Says the pair, “With Angel Alphabet, we are trying to solve a problem that we felt from the beginning: Where are the big stories, the Myths, and Legends of this new digital metaverse? So we called a crew of 12 visual artists that we love and we challenged ourselves to build the very first MYTH of the Metaverse. We named it “metamyth” and after research we wrote a simple concept to tell a fictional story where DigitalBot and Angels fought, and during the battle, Angels lost their Alphabet somewhere in the Metaverse. The challenge was to imagine the shape of the letters, where they were and how they got there, and present them to the public. The output of the research will come in 12 unique pieces of digital art. But this is just the beginning of a new media narrative.”

Each artwork is a unique, 30-second audio-visual offering that immediately drops you deep into Mathame’s archeo-futuristic world. There is a narrative to each one, with dramatic and cinematic music bringing real energy and tension to the abstract visual. Some feature liquid metal shapes displayed like sculptures on a rock planet, others see colourful clouds drifting through a haunting space and there are also explosions of particles in glass boxes, fields of flowers blowing in a warm wind featureless figures framing more abstract digital art. They are soothing, fascinating pieces that very much get you lost in the moment and admiring the beauty of the forms and textures.

On the day of release fans will be invited to experience Mathame’s OVR live performance where they will be presenting the full collection and playing a set in a unique virtual world via https://www.ovr.ai/. This avant-garde project will be explained via Mathame’s socials and fans will then be invited to download the OVR app and experience the special virtual reality private viewing of the full collection at 7pm on May 30th.

Ovr is the decentralized platform for geolocalized AR/VR experiences. We use NFTs as spatial domains: basically, we divided the world into 300 sqm hexagons, each one represented by an NFT. Just like on the web where people own a web domain and control the content over there, in OVR people who own the NFT representing a geographic location will decide the AR/VR content for their own hexagon. Some of the major uses for this include gaming (PokemonGo style), live events, virtual retail, virtual exhibitions, avatars, tourism, real estate showcase, art exhibitions and many more

NFTs are transforming the digital art world, “ Non-Fungible-Token” aka NFT are one-of-a-kind token that represents a unique asset or content that can be bought and sold by collectors; using blockchain technologies to keep track of provenance and ownership. When a collector buys an artist’s pieces as an NFT, they’re buying the unique token representing the digital artwork. Ownership is then recorded in a tamper-proof way by the token, which also guarantees the artist a percentage of any future sales.

PETE TONG & DAVID RODIGAN HEADLINE THE UK’S BIGGEST EVER SOUL & REGGAE EVENT

Pete Tong to perform an exclusive soul set for the first time in 30 years

Tickets:www.platinumweekender.co.uk

Dates:16th-19th July

Amazing sunsets, iconic white cliffs and unspoilt golden sands. An incredibly rare soul set from dance music icon Pete Tong, lashings of reggae from one of the scene’s most towering and pioneering figures in David Rodigan, endless funk and rare grooves from Norman Jay and world renowned jazz trumpeter Tom Browne, as well as five different arenas and more than 40 other acts. You can expect all this as well as comfortable accommodation and welcoming atmospheres when the Platinum Soul and Reggae hosts the biggest ever event of its kind at the newly renovated Pontins Camber Sands from July 16th – 19th 2021.
Platinum Weekender has invited some of the most influential DJs and artists in the world to create something truly special. This is a historic event that will go back to where it all started and cover all the key music movements from the 1970s, 80s and the early 1990s balanced with showcasing new, fresh and exciting contemporary sounds.

The setting for this once in a lifetime gathering is special, with a stunning natural backdrop and the gorgeous dunes all ready and waiting. Pontins Camber Sands is one of the largest holiday parks in the UK and has recently undergone a huge refurbishment. The park offers a full spectrum of facilities including a convenience store, multiple restaurants, arcades, gym, swimming pool, four fully licensed music and entertainment halls, Go-Kart track, chill out zones and much more.

The big news is that Pete Tong is to play a landmark soul set for the first time in 30 years. The man is best known for championing new music, which he has done for decades on Radio 1 via his iconic Essential Mix and various other influential shows. But he actually has roots in soul music that go way back. In his earliest years in music he worked as part of the Kent “Soul Mafia” bringing soul weekenders to seaside towns such as Caister-on-Sea and Prestatyn and in 1979 was even an advertising sales assistant for Blues & Soul Magazine. As such this music runs deep in his bones so to hear him play a very personal selection of soul for the first time in three decades will be magic.

Performing on the same night will be the one and only Norman Jay. An icon since the 80s, he has very much shaped the soul, disco, funk, acid jazz and rare groove scene over the years and that is reflected with his MBE status. What he doesn’t know about these sounds isn’t worth knowing so expect a real masterclass. Meanwhile, bringing more world class rhythms will be David Rodigan, the original reggae and dancehall selector and soundclash champion. He is known the world over for his impeccable taste and long radio station presence on the likes of Kiss 100 and BBC Radio 1Xtra. As well as these headliners, there are more than 40 further acts all lined up to keep the good times flowing all weekend long.

The line-up has been carefully curated according to the time of day with a daytime program jam packed full of music, food, socialising and dancing. There will also be special Sunset at Camber Sands sessions that will send shivers down your spine and evening events across five different areas from 10pm – 5am including the MAIN ROOM for big sounds from the pioneers, REGGAE ROOM which is dedicated to Reggae and Lovers Rock with an enhanced sound system, JAZZ FUNK SOUL ROOM for afternoon sessions and late-night gatherings and THE UP-FRONT ROOM for diverse sounds both old and new music. You can also expect special live shows in the outdoor LIVE SESSIONS arena, a more laid-back environment for socialising.

The team behind this stunning festival has been putting on events for the last seven years in places all over the world. This year they head to the USA for the first time as well as hosting the Boogaloo Weekender in October. They have a wealth of experience and know how and always ensure every single detail is taken care of with the utmost care and attention

Says Director Jamie Costello, “The Platinum Weekender was created as an extension to our successful overseas events that have been experiencing huge growth year on year, mainly because of our cutting edge and diverse music policy. We welcome people from all walks of life and one of our biggest USP’s is our friendly crowd who know their stuff when it comes to music. Everyone is made to feel welcome and feel like part of the family by the time our events finish. Our team is made up of myself and Leemoore Smith, who have been hosting Soul & Reggae events internationally for the past 7 years and Rob Lawrence, who was involved in the very first Caister Soul Weekenders from the late 70’s. The response for our first Platinum Weekender has been unbelievable, as we look to deliver a weekender that will enable people to really let loose after an awful 15 months for everyone both in and outside of the industry”.

As well as the music, the whole site will become an adult playground with a fitness program devised by Troy Dureh from FightKlub, Yoga, Roller Disco, traditional seaside fun and games, Tribe Tug of War, Hopelessly talentless competition, five a side, aqua aerobics, The Pool Party, Bingo, Drunken Doddle Contest, The Platinum All Star Band, National Limbo Championships, Mr & Mrs Platinum and much more.

A Covid Policy is in place which means you can dance safely and your money is protected if the event does not go ahead due to Covid restrictions.

WALES’ BIGGEST FESTIVAL PROMOTERS ANNOUNCE EVOLUTION: ESCAPE RECORDS

The team behind Wales’ biggest events and festivals, including Inside Out and Colour Clash, have announced a major evolution for the company. Having previously operated as Climax Live, the launch of Escape Records is a huge development that sees the brand new record label, as well as all their existing festivals and club nights, fall under one exciting new brand. On top of this, there are bold plans firmly in motion for a brand new sure-to-be historic and much larger addition to their festival portfolio next year. Escape Records, then, is very much set to change the game in Wales and beyond.

The vibrant new label will be a diverse and exciting home to a vast array of sounds and genres. You can expect to hear the sort of cutting edge sounds that have always been championed across the collective’s iconic portfolio of festivals and events, across three genre focussed sub brands; Escape Tapes (Urban), Escape Jack (House), and Escape Anthems, with exciting releases from red hot artists including Glen Horsborough, Peter Chard and Local all confirmed.

Escape Records will officially launch on 17th May with a host of bold and adventurous activations that will showcase the sort of out-of-the-box thinking and real excitement the brand is all about.

The Escape Records team have undoubtedly established themselves as the leading event promoters in Wales over recent years, launching and firmly establishing three festivals across the country; Inside Out, Colour Clash and Party At The Park, as well as taking the reigns of one of Wales’ most loved legacy festival brands, Escape, each with capacities ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 people, with a huge new game-changing festival all set to be unveiled soon.

The collective has always strived to surround themselves and work with an array of amazing and creative people that are the heartbeat of what the brand stands for. Escape Records was very much a vision for the future, but after the enforced 2020 fallow year because of the pandemic, it now takes centre stage, as bold new challenges await whilst the team work on some very special new projects to be announced very soon.

Says Mark Hopkins, Director of Escape Records, “our mantra is trust and love the process. This means we’ve had an incredible ride, with many knocks along the way, but we have learnt from them all and improved each time and are now ready to take things to the next level. When this journey began, it was based in music and partying and the wider cultural impact in truth was not at the forefront of our minds. Fast forward 15 years and sadly the care free attitude of youth is starting to escape us, but this space is now filled with a more meaningful purpose. The creation of our academy to support and bring through the next generation of music talent in South Wales, our range of charitable and project work most recently supporting the building of a home in Cambodia. Giving back in all its forms to our community, the industry further afield and making sure we embody that in all that we do.”

The launch of Escape Records is the first chapter in an exciting new story. Sign up here to keep up to date with all announcements and developments as the story unfolds.

Noisily Festival of Music & Arts adds John Digweed, Eats Everything, Ed Rush, Dubspeeka and many more

8-11th July 2021

Much loved counter-cultural gathering Noisily Festival of Music & Arts today adds John Digweed, Eats Everything, Ed Rush, Simon Posford, Dubspeeka, Quivver and many more to this year’s hugely anticipated event at Noseley Hall, Leceister from  8 – 11th July 2021.

This latest announcement sees drum & bass pioneer Ed Rush added to the always popular Treehouse Stage. One of the true heroes of the scene has served up countless genre-defying EPs, played thrilling sets at every major club and festival and has knowledge and understanding to spare. Also playing this stage will be fellow d&b don Ed Rush next to Bushwacka!, Adrain Sherwood, Deekline, DJ Storm, Holographic and many more.

Meanwhile, Bristol party starter, bass-heavy house lover and Edible boss Eats Everything brings his boundless amounts of energy and enthusiasm to the Nosily Stage with enduring Bedrock legend John Digweed, whose masterful mix specialty’s will never fail to take you on high class audio trips. Illusive Bristol bad boy Dubspeeka also joins this stage having made himself a real techno innovator with releases on the likes of Sasha’s Last Night on Earth. Quivver is a man who spent five years in DJ Mag’s Top 100 and continues to remain one of the world’s finest DJs and a master producer who has been laying it down in style since the 90s on vital labels from Maus Trap to Perfecto.

Noisilys final big new addition is Simon Posford for the Liquid Stage. The producer behind Shpongl and venerated veteran scene sculptor and electronic musician who specializes in next level psychedelic trance music. These new additions come on top of an already mouthwatering line-up teeming with talent from all across a diverse musical spectrum.

Noisily Festival of Music & Arts is one of the UK’s most carefully curated events, with a real focus on celebrating individuals, cultivating understanding in the collective, and exploring what it means to be human via the mediums of music, art and healing. The whole magical and enriching gathering goes down in a suitably mystic setting far away from everyday life – a secluded woodland at the heart of the English countryside. It is a unique site unlike any other and always proves a magical wonderland for the 5000 people who make the annual pilgrimage each July.

Next to the music there is much to enjoy including interactive art installations and the Mind Body Soul healing area: a holistic space where hundreds of contributors come together to share knowledge and skills with the guests, including a full program of panels and talks, yoga and bodywork, therapies, workshops, sound healing, hot tubs and everything in between.

In order to make the festival as safe as possible for all, there has been a large Covid related investment in Health & Safety. The original three stage plus various micro-stage format remains, only this year the line up is UK only artists which is an exciting development that means the wealth of talent on these shores gets a platform it deserves.

Glam is a new project from old friends Paul Nelson and Carl McCormick. For years, Carl has put on high-end parties for the likes of Drake, Rhianna and Prince. Paul, meanwhile, was the first person to ever get a legal rave license for his legendary Raindance events. As such, this scene runs deep in their soul.

They first met in 1992, then launched Aquarium in 1995, a hugely influential venue that ushered in the clubbing revolution that took hold in Shoreditch in the ensuing years. Back then, way ahead of their time, the promoters focused on dressing up the venue in luxury fabrics, with exotic lighting and premium clientele who liked to dress up to get down. The club was famously inclusive and welcoming to all. A place where every race, gender and sexuality came together as one. Many modern dance floors now strive for this mix. But it has always come naturally to this pair, and will very much define the latest chapter in their ongoing love story with clubland.

Says Carl,I cut my teeth at the always beautifully designed and luxuriant Renaissance with its world-class DJs, and I’m not gunna lie, it’s a huge inspiration for what we are doing with Glam. The club is just what everyone needs right now – something that’s high-end, super special in every way, but never too stuffy or elitist. We’re proudly going against the grain and redefining the glossy glam of the 90s with a contemporary soundtrack.”

Each weekend, the fully renovated club will stimulate your every sense with plush drapes, dangling chandeliers, warming backlights and a host of wild characters, from drag queens to burlesque dancers. It will be flamboyant and full of the disco dazzle that made Studio 54 such a cult spot, but always with a no-nonsense, proper house soundtrack.

The utterly sensual Glam offers three unique spaces. The famous pool has gone and been replaced with the VIP Phoenix Lounge in partnership with Ciroc. There is also the mid-sized main room for headliner action, and the magnificent Salon Privé, a cocktail lounge serving contemporary fusion food, with live, cosy, unplugged soul and jazz shows in a stylish art deco setting reminiscent of the roaring twenties.

Musically, it is house, house and more house on Saturdays, which come under the ToyBox banner. It will be an immersive and escapist party that takes you a million miles away from the norm, deep into a fantastical new world of vibrant and vivid colours and characters with the world’s best DJs. Fridays will be taken care of by Soul Kingdom and real disco dons.

The Friday, June 25th launch party features Michael Gray and Moodena, and the night after is a live set from Alison Limmerick, plus UK mainstays Jeremy Healy, Brandon Block and Allister Whitehead. After that, house and disco aficionado Dave Lee aka Joey Negro will serve up one of his masterclasses on the 3rd, game-changing Zanzibar resident Tony Humphries plays the 10th and the one and only David Morales takes charge for six sure to be special hours on July 31st. As well as that, two bonafide US house legends will head over from their New York homes to complete the month.

Glam residents mix established heads with exciting new talents and include The Menendez Brothers, Siggy Smalls, Natasha Kitty Kat and more, with a real US house icon set to be added to the team in August and plenty more lined up including Armand Van Helden, Louie Vega, Jamie Underground and Bellair.

There are just six weeks to go until Glam opens and offers something truly different. Make sure you’re a part of the story.

An absolute mind-blowing moment. Thank you to all involved and here’s to whatever’s beyond those castle walls!”
