Deftones only UK show will be at Sonisphere!

SONISPHERE welcomes DEFTONES to the superb bill for their only UK appearance of 2014. Groundbreaking and highly influential, the alternative metallers have been setting new standards in exciting rock performance since the seminal album ‘Adrenaline’ came out in 1995. With a reputation for being one of the most dazzling and uncompromising bands on the planet, DEFTONES have, throughout the years, been garnering praise, success, and too many accolades to mention, selling millions of records and winning the adoration of their peers. With classics such as ‘Back To School’, ‘My Own Summer (Shove It)’, ‘Change (In The House Of flies)’, DEFTONES are poised to set KNEBWORTH ablaze with a show to die for. Says drummer Abe Cunningham:

"Greetings to ALL!!! We are absolutely stoked to be part of Sonisphere's return and of course to have a chance to once again play a show with Iron Maiden, especially on the hallowed grounds of Knebworth. Until then…!!!!

FRANK TURNER has a work ethic like no other, climbing his way up from the dive circuit to the arena limelight, claiming widespread praise and critical plaudits along the way. Outside of his own live shows, Frank has also broken into mainstream consciousness with the honours of performing at the Olympic Opening ceremony, and more recently, appearing on TV’s Celebrity Mastermind. With SONISPHEREheadliners IRON MAIDEN as his chosen specialist subject, Frank – who boasts an Eddie tattoo – won the Mastermind challenge with his superior knowledge of the metal legends. It does not take much imagination to appreciate the delight he has on learning he will share a stage with his heroes for the first time:

Says Turner:

“I'm excited to be playing Sonisphere this year, and super excited to be playing the same stage as the first band I ever fell in love with – Iron Maiden; it's definitely going to be my festival highlight for 2014.”

Turner will be appearing at KNEBWORTH with his band as FRANK TURNER & THE SLEEPING SOULS, having recently completed an incendiary UK arena tour in support of fifth album ‘Tape Deck Heart’.

Hot off the success of their recent UK Tour with Less than Jake, Californian Ska-punk pioneers REEL BIG FISH come to KNEBWORTH armed with a hyper-kinetic live show, juvenile humour and ironic covers of new wave pop songs. With a fun filled attitude and massive dancefloor fillers such as  ‘Sell Out’ and ‘Take On Me’, their set will undoubtedly prove once more that REEL BIG FISH is one of the most dynamic and accomplished bands of the genre, as they take to the SATURN stage for a Sunday Ska Punk Party.

PROTEST THE HERO have carved an identity for themselves that is thought of as profoundly revolutionary within heavy music and 2014 has already seen them complete a hugely successful UK headline tour, including a sold out show at London’s Electric Ballroom. The band effortlessly balances high-minded artistry with wit and whimsy, substantive viewpoints with wanton tomfoolery, and masterful musicianship with true song-craft. SONISPHERE can’t wait to see them spread the magic of their spider-fingered arpeggios, walloping bottom-heavy brutality and dynamically theatrical vocals as showcased on their fourth album ‘Volition’.

Says the band:

“Europe knows something about doing festivals right. We are blown away every time we come over in the summer and take part in the fun. One of the highlights this summer is going to be Sonisphere! We are just finishing a UK leg of a tour and the turn outs have been great so I can only imagine what it will be like at Sonisphere.”

Avast, ye landlubbers! Fans of the sonically adventurous will be delighted to see ALESTORM joining the festivities with their very own brand of True Scottish Pirate Metal. With a treasure chest of keytar laden, pirate themed, fist pumping folk metal, these scurvy dogs will have their most epic voyage yet as they sail the sea of SONISPHERE’s SATURN stage on the Saturday for a rum fuelled set of metal fun.

Since forming in 2001, Stoner/Psychedelic rock gods TRUCKFIGHTERS have released an impressive four albums, seven EP’s and a film depicting their lives named simply ‘Truckfighters’ in 2011.  With Josh Homme being one of their biggest fans, TRUCKFIGHTERS released fourth album ‘Universe’ earlier this year and are an exciting addition to the festival.

2014 is full of exciting promise from Ireland’s KERBDOG.  Having released two albums in the 1990’s to critical acclaim, disbanding and later reforming to sell out the London Garage on a special one off live appearance, 2014 will see the band release their first new material in seventeen years, and resurrect their electric live performance.  KERBDOG say it best themselves:

"We would have crawled naked across broken glass to play Sonisphere. To be invited to what is one of the greatest rock festivals on the planet as we release a new live album is a gift from the Gods. The Fans are in for an earth-shattering gig that will level buildings. End of."

Having landed support slots to The Stranglers and appearing alongside Billy Talent at the 2013 UK VANS WARPED TOUR, hotly tipped UK outfit MAX RAPTOR, who blend punk and rock to startling effect, are also confirmed to appear at SONISPHERE, where their hard-edge and angry sounds as shown on their debut album ‘Mother’s Ruin’ will resonate through the festival.

Says the band:

“Just had the awesome news we'll be playing Sonisphere 2014…. We used to go to a grubby rock club in Burton on Trent and listen to Maiden and now we're playing the same festival as them. Absolute dream come true.”

Bringing the kind of American punk rock that has drawn comparison to Black Flag for its hard hitting melodies and rhythm, ONLY CRIME will treat festival goers to a truly special show. With a line up led by Bill Stevenson (Descendants) and Russ Rankin (Good Riddance) the band looks set for a big 2014 with a new album in the pipeline and SONISPHERE is looking forward to sharing it with them. Checking in from the studio, the band said:

"We know it's been awhile since we have been overseas.  We have been working hard on the new record and are so excited to finally get back over there and give it all we've got."

Returning to SONISPHERE is one of the UK’s most anticipated new bands, BLITZ KIDS.  The outfit has been garnering praise from the likes of BBC Radio1 with their brand new album ‘Good Youth’ and single ‘Sometimes’. On the brink of big things, audiences would be wise not miss their appearance.

Says the band:

“It's a great honour to be playing at Sonisphere Festival for its big comeback to the UK! It feels like we're part of a big welcome home party. We played a few years ago on the smallest stage, and to be asked to play on the Bohemia Stage this year is a fantastic opportunity to step it up a few gears.”

SONISPHERE is excited to welcome Camden Town born and raised punk/rap artist ITCH to the weekend for the first time.  After fronting critically acclaimed, ground breaking band The King Blues for seven years, lyricist ITCH took his unique brand of poetry full force into the solo act he is today. Recent album ‘The Deep End’ sees his unstoppable ferociousness cemented in record and is sure to make an unforgettable live experience.

I'm so excited to be playing Sonisphere, it'll be my first time there.
It's an honour to be playing the same bill as metal gods such as Chas and Dave” jokes ITCH.

British electro/punk rockers HOUNDS join the bill after releasing their debut EP as a cover mount with Metal Hammer.  Having proved their live credentials on tour with Stone Sour, as well as at appearance at SONISPHERE 2011, and citing THE PRODIGY’s Liam Howlett in the list of people they’ve worked with, HOUNDS shouldn’t be missed. Says the band:

“We can’t wait to bring the noise to Sonisphere this summer, we have been locked in an Air Raid shelter for months writing and recording our debut album so we feel like caged animals. The stage ain’t gonna know what hit it….”

Limp Bizkit, Anthrax and more added to Sonisphere 2014 lineup

The Summer Fesitval Guide can reveal that Limp Bizkit will make a special guest appearance at this years Sonisphere UK which returns after a break away from Knebworth.

Also joining them is thrash legends Anthrax, Cranifex, Chas & Dave, Devin Townsend Project, Dropkick Murphys, Silverstein, The Virginmarys and Voodoo Six!

The inimitable LIMP BIZKIT return to Knebworth as special guests to THE PRODIGY. One of the biggest bands to emerge from the Nu-Metal scene of the 90s, LIMP BIZKIT’s insanely catchy and infectious rock has amassed them millions of album sales and the accolade of fastest selling rock album ever with “Chocolate Starfish & The Hotdog Flavored Water”. However, it is the live environment in which they truly shine – their upcoming sold out tour of the UK bears testament to that – and the prospect of mega hits like “Rollin”, “Nookie”, “My Generation” and “Gold Cobra” will provide the perfect warm up to the Friday night headliners at this exclusive festival appearance.

Limp Bizkit

TV has soap operas, literature has Shakespeare and Thrash… well Thrash hasANTHRAX. For 30 plus years, ANTHRAX have headbanged, stomped and moshed their way to the top end of the metal food chain, selling in excess of 10 million records, enjoying multiple Gold and Platinum albums and Grammy nominations, firmly cementing their position as one of THE BIG 4. Fast, furious and above all, fun, it just wouldn’t beSONISPHERE without ANTHRAX, who have graced the stage of every UK SONISPHEREto date, and continue the tradition to dose out the metal thrashing madness at their only UK festival of 2014. Scott Ian explains how it went down:

Phone rings…
Me: Hello.
My manager: Do you want to play the 40th anniversary of Knebworth; Sonisphere Festival with Iron Maiden?
Me: (filling my pants with poo) Yes!

“It's one of those phone calls you only dream about. I'm so excited for Anthrax to be a part of the biggest and best Sonisphere ever! Can't wait to destroy Knebworth again!”

Anthrax

Death metal has long been the most maniacal and viscous form of rock, but as each year passes, it becomes increasingly difficult to find new contenders to carry the torch and entice and surprise an audience that isn’t shocked or impressed by much. Fortunately for us, there’s CARNIFEX, who join this year’s line up for their first ever UK festival appearance. Last seen in the UK on the NEVER SAY DIE tour, where they punished audiences with their extremely brutal and superfast intensity, these San Diegans should enjoy a welcome return as they dish out the deathcore destruction at their first major UK festival.

"Carnifex is very excited to be a part of Sonisphere for the first time.” Says vocalist Scott Lewis. “We plan on bringing a massive set filled with your favourite Carnifex songs and tracks from the new album, you won't want to miss it."

In stark contrast to the chaos of CARNIFEXSONISPHERE continues to uphold its tradition of keeping the line up wide, varied and with the odd cheeky surprise by welcoming CHAS & DAVE to the bill. The last time the legendary duo graced the stage at KNEBWORTH was in 1979, opening for Led Zeppelin. Since then, their love of genuine Rock’n’Roll, proudly cockney vocals and exuberant good humour has seen them become a household name across the country. Thirty-five years later, CHAS & DAVE’s appeal has never been greater or more varied, with audiences getting younger and new bands citing them as a major influence. The ultimate party hosts, the promise of a good ol’ knees up and sing along at KNEBWORTH will ensure the kind of magical moments festivals were invented for. Say the duo:

"We went down well at Knebworth in '79. Not surprised we got a return booking!"

Truly one of a kind, DEVIN TOWNSEND is a natural born visionary, artist and entertainer and one of the most uniquely insightful musicians of the 21st Century. Over 20 years, he has given the world metal faves Strapping Young Lad and the best puppet show the world has ever seen in Ziltoid The Omniscient, not to mention the incredible works recorded under his own name. In 2012 he brought these all together for the first time for Devin’s Retinal Circus at a sold out London Roundhouse for the most ambitious show of his career. Now he brings the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT to SONISPHERE for his biggest UK performance to date. The man himself checked in to tell us:

“Amidst a year of relentless writing and planning, we are fortunate enough to be invited to a select few shows, and among the most cool is undoubtedly Sonisphere UK! It’s an institution that is really exciting, among bands we absolutely love. We can’t wait to take a studio break and come entertain you there. Thank you Sonisphere for the opportunity! =)”

Celtic punks DROPKICK MURPHYS make their way over from the state of Massachusetts for their SONISPHERE debut. Arguably one of the biggest genuine punk bands out there, the ‘MURPHYS continue to surprise industry pundits by outdrawing high profile mainstream acts as headliners on major tours around the globe. With anthems such as “Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya”, “Rose Tattoo” and “I’m Shipping Up To Boston” – which provided the soundtrack to Hollywood smash The Departed –DROPKICK MURPHYS will no doubt have fists pumping and glasses raised high.

"We are psyched to see the Dropkick Murphys added to the list of amazing bands at this year's Sonisphere in historic Knebworth” says bassist Ken Casey. “We look forward to giving the equally legendary Sonisphere crowd a Dropkick Murphys show for the ages. See you in July!"

In 2011 SONISPHERE proudly boasted THE SISTERS OF MERCY’s first festival performance in 20 years. The result was a rammed to the rafters BOHEMIA, as Andrew Eldritch and his not so merry men gave spectators a late night feast of THE SISTERS’ unclassifiable blend of rock, pop, punk, dance and psychedelia. A rare occurrence,SONISPHERE is honoured and privileged to welcome back THE SISTERS OF MERCYfor their only UK festival of 2014. Says the band:

“We had such a good time playing Sonisphere in 2011 (for the Sisters' first UK festival in 20 years) that we're coming back, to celebrate 40 years of gigs at Knebworth. Christ, that's even older than us. We're looking forward to seeing you all (even though you might not see us).”

Post hardcore mob SILVERSTEIN join SONISPHERE 2014. Since their formation in 2000, the Canadian five-piece has become as close to a household name as you can get in the post-hardcore scene. After 5 full length albums, 3 EPs, a live album, mini album, and numerous 7” singles and collections, SILVERSTEIN have sold more than 1 million albums worldwide, played more than 1600 shows in 42 countries, and have been a staple on many festivals and tours.

“We are delighted to announce that we will be returning to the U.K. for a performance at Sonisphere.” Says drummer Paul Koehler. “This will be our only 2014 appearance, and we look forward to sharing the stage with some incredible bands!”

In 2011 THE VIRGINMARYS appeared on the SONISPHERE line up as an unsigned three-piece from Macclesfield. Fast forward three years and they are now considered one of this country’s brightest rock hopes. Tours with the likes of Slash, Skunk Anansie, Eagles Of Death Metal and Queens Of The Stone Age led to a deal with Double Cross/Cooking Vinyl who released their debut album last year, which in turn saw them earn the honour of Best Breakthrough Act at the 2013 Classic Rock Awards. Also enjoying huge success at radio in the USA, THE VIRGINMARYS progress shows no sign of slowing down, and we look forward to welcoming them back.

"Ace to have Sonisphere back in the UK and great to be a part of it again” chime the band. “Bring it on!"

Last but by no means least, London classic metallers VOODOO SIX join the 2014 line up. Releasing their latest album “Songs To Invade Countries To” in May of last year,VOODOO SIX spent the remainder of 2013 doing what any band with a new album would do, touring the hell out of it. However, the five-piece were in a slightly more enviable position than most, having the good fortune to play 28 shows in 18 countries to 300,000 people with SONISPHERE headliners IRON MAIDEN.

“We are very proud to be asked to play at Sonisphere UK”. Says bassist Tony Newton.“It is the 40th anniversary of live events at Knebworth, and will be a great celebration of rock music with a fantastic line-up. To be included in this event is a huge honour, and we will play our part in making it a memorable weekend”.

Alice in Chains & Slayer join the Sonisphere UK 2014 lineup

Sonisphere 2014 is proud to announce the first wave of bands who will be joining headliners The Prodigy, Iron Maiden and Metallica at Knebworth House on the weekend of 4th – 6thJuly, 2014.

Australian rockers Airbourne have amassed a legion of fans over their decade-long existence, with a high-octane live show featuring lead singer and guitarist Joel O’Keefe’s outrageous showmanship. Songs such as ‘Stand Up For Rock N’ Roll’, ‘Runnin’ Wild’, ‘Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast’, and recent single ‘Live It Up’ from Roadrunner Records-released third album ‘Black Dog Barking’, showcase a band that wears its hard-rock heritage proudly on its sleeve channeling the spirit of Thin Lizzy, Def Leppard, Judas Priest and AC/DC into a thrillingly updated version of good time rock & roll.

Joel O’Keefe says, Us four guys are seriously fired up and chomping at the bit to bring the 'Black Dog Barking' Tour to Knebworth. With monumental metal juggernauts Iron Maiden and Metallica coming to shake Knebworth to the core along with Bruce Dickinson also announcing it will be the last concert of the 'Maiden England' tour this is a rock'n'roll event in time that can't be missed. We are deeply honored to have the green light for an Airbourne/Knebworth assault, to get out there on Knebworth's hallowed ground in front of that sea of heavy metal maniacs and give them every ounce of blood sweat and energy we got… And afterwards we'll grab a case of ice cold Trooper ale's and watch the best heavy metal bands of all time! See ya there!”

Seminal American rock group Alice In Chains were the first of the ‘90s Seattle bands to find a global audience, and their influence on the world of rock and metal is indisputable, with over 25 million albums sold during the course of their career. After a decade-long hiatus they returned in 2009 with the astonishing album ‘Black Gives Way To Blue’ and in 2013 their latest album ‘The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here’ was released to huge critical and commercial acclaim around the world and saw them play a major UK tour, including their biggest-ever headline show at Alexandra Palace in London, to rave reviews. Sonisphere 2014 will be their only UK festival appearance.

Lead vocalist and guitarist William DuVall comments, We're very excited to be playing once again at Sonisphere, particularly as this year has us joining our longtime friends in Metallica. It should be a fun ride for everyone – both on and off the stage.”

Infamous Swedish doom-rockers Ghost are one of the most talked-about bands of recent years, their ghoulish stage presence – led by Papa Emeritus – ensuring their stage shows are ever-memorable affairs. But it is their hauntingly atmospheric, but always melodic, music that has won them a devoted audience and with the release of their second album ‘Infestissumam’ and its follow-up covers EP, ‘If You Have Ghost’, that audience has grown ever-larger still. Ghost’s performance at Sonisphere 2014 will be their only UK festival appearance this year and is sure to be a must-see event.

A Nameless Ghoul announces, “It is an honour to be playing at the unholy ground that is Knebworth, where so many classic rock concerts have taken place throughout the years.”

French progressive-metallers Gojira will also play their sole UK festival of 2014 at Sonisphere. Having toured with the likes of Trivium, Lamb Of God, Machine Head and Metallica over the years, Gojira are a formidable live act, combining brutal death metal with enormous technical skills to create their own unique sound, most recently on their 2012 album ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’, released on Roadrunner Records.

Joe from Gojira states, "We are super excited to return to the UK to play the Sonisphere festival at legendary Knebworth this year.  We can't wait to come and kick your British asses!”

Perth-based Australian five-piece Karnivool are at the forefront of modern prog-rock, creating elaborate melodic soundscapes and delivering devastating live shows. Their Sonisphere performance is another UK exclusive for 2014 and will see them performing songs from last year’s critically acclaimed third album, ‘Asymmetry’.

Drew Goddard (guitarist) says "We can't bloody wait to get back to play Sonisphere UK 2014. Sonisphere Knebworth was actually the first European Festival we ever played a few years ago, so it will be nice to come back and kick some grass and have people know who we are!"

The mighty Mastodon return to Sonisphere, following their 2011 performance, as yet another exclusive addition to the 2014 bill. Formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 2000 Mastodon have released five studio albums to date, culminating with 2011’s ‘The Hunter’ which was voted album of the year by Kerrang, Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Classic Rock, Terrorizer and Thrash Hits and saw them play a sold-out show at Brixton Academy. Their performance at Sonisphere will be the first chance for British fans to see them play tracks from their forthcoming sixth album, due out in the spring.

“We are super excited to be playing Sonisphere Knebworth again!!!“ they exclaim. “We had such a good time at the last one, this one will be even better!! We look forward to seeing you there!!”

Slayer

Thrash-metal gods Slayer need no introduction as they bring their ferociously demonic live show back to Sonisphere, following their 2011 performance as part of the Big 4 line-up alongside Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. With their 11th studio album due for release in 2014, Slayer will be delivering their brand of skull-crushing heaviness louder and heavier than ever before.

As guitar-god Kerry King says, Great to be back at Sonisphere this year!! Always a giant party!!!”

The Prodigy announced as final headliner for Sonisphere 2014

Emerging out of the UK’s early 90s rave scene, The Prodigy created a seismic shift in contemporary music by welding together industrial beats, punk-rock attitudes, aggressive vocals and searing guitars with their own unique take on dance culture, bringing rock, metal and rave fans together for the first time and becoming one of the most vital live acts in the world as a result.

Their festival headline slots have become legendary around the globe and so it is only fitting that they bring their uniquely brilliant stage show to headline at Knebworth Park for the first time, to make Sonisphere 2014 a truly memorable 40th Anniversary celebration.

Says Liam Howlett:

"We cant wait to play Sonisphere 2014 , we will be hittin u with some brand new beats and noise
Respecto The Prodigy"

The Prodigy Sonisphere 2014

 Team Sonisphere says:

‘Here it is! We are ecstatic to announce that the Prodigy will be making a triumphant return to Knebworth to take up the position as the Friday night headliner on Sonisphere 2014, having previously played a legendary show with Oasis in 1996 to a 250,000 strong crowd. Famous for the sort of energy fuelled, insane and pulsating show that you can feel in your bones, we know that The Prodigy will bring something very special to Sonisphere. Adding this to the already announced headliner sets of Iron Maiden and Metallica is pretty much guaranteed to get the very  foundations of Knebworth House shaking.’

Sonisphere returns in 2014 with Iron Maiden & Metallica

Iron Maiden and Metallica, the two biggest metal bands on the planet, will make history this summer when they co-headline the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, the very first time both bands have appeared together on a British bill, and the ONLY CONCERTS EITHER BAND WILL PLAY IN THE UK IN 2014.

Both Metallica and Iron Maiden headlined their first ever Knebworth concerts under the Sonisphere banner and now these giants of the world stage return together to fly the Sonisphere flag once more; bigger and bolder than ever before. For the first time ever fans will have the chance to see both bands come together to head up what will surely make for one of the most historic festival bills in heavy rock music.

British legends Iron Maiden will bring their immensely successful ‘Maiden England’ World Tour to a spectacular finale.

Vocalist Bruce Dickinson comments:

“We all grew up in England well aware of the importance of the legendary concerts at Knebworth, and scarily it all seems quite recent! Without being clichéd, it really is an honor and privilege to return to play there with the purpose of celebrating some of the finest moments in British rock history from inspirational bands like Pink Floyd, The Who, Zeppelin, The Stones and Genesis.

This will be the last concert of our ‘Maiden England’ Tour and it is very fitting to end a long and hugely enjoyable tour in our own back yard. We have tweaked the ‘Maiden England’ set list a bit to make it more representative of our whole 80s era and to give the fans something a bit different, especially as this will be the last of our three tours with an historical perspective. If you are there on the day it is highly likely that you will hear some of these songs played live for the very last time ever. So on an occasion like this, a celebration and the end of a chapter, you can be sure we will do our utmost to give our fans one hell of a show and go out with all guns blazing.”

Also headlining will be one of the biggest selling rock acts of all time, Metallica. Formed in 1981 by drummer Lars Ulrich and vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield, Metallica are one of the most influential and successful rock bands in history. Next summer’s performance by Metallica will see the band delivering a ‘Metallica By Request’ interactive setlist spanning their entire career. For full details, see below.

Metallica Sonisphere 2014

Says Lars Ulrich:

“This just works on all fronts:

Metallica and Knebworth, Metallica by Request, Metallica and Iron Maiden.

To be invited to co-headline the 40th anniversary celebration at the legendary Knebworth House is truly a mindfuck. Considering the iconic bands whose performances at Knebworth are part of rock and roll history, it’s not only a next level honor, but a somewhat humbling undertaking.

And what could be more fitting on our third Knebworth go-around than to play an all-request set, chosen entirely by the fans? We are soooo excited about the limitless possibilities of our friends picking what songs Metallica get to perform on this forthcoming evening from the nearly 140 songs we’ve recorded throughout our ride. Who knows what crazy challenges will be thrown our way? Maybe a song that has never been performed live before? Maybe a few deep cuts that haven’t been aired in ages? Maybe a couple of your toe-tapping favorites? An obscure cover? Whatever happens, it will be unique, it will be special, and it’s all up to you.

Add the cherry on top…co-headlining with Iron Maiden, who are a big reason that Metallica exists in the first place. Although we haven’t played together on the same day since 1988, this is the closest we’ve come for 25 years, and for all our fans who share the same love for Iron Maiden as we, the band members do, this will hopefully amount to what many rock fans would consider a dream bill.

BRING IT ON!!!”

Iron Maiden Sonisphere

Making this event even more special is the fact it marks 40 years of rock concerts in the legendary grounds of Knebworth House. Sonisphere 2014 marks the return to Britain of the Sonisphere Festival which for the past five years has been the biggest pan-European festival, playing to audiences of over 1.5 Million fans.

Early Bird Weekend tickets for Sonisphere 2014 including Iron Maiden and Metallica go on sale on Monday 2nd December priced at £170 (Limited availability). The highly popular £50 deposit scheme will also make a return on early bird tickets. All Campsites open Thursday.

Glassjaw, Hundred Reasons and more added to Sonisphere lineup

Exactly ten years to the date after its original release, Long Island hardcore innovators glassjaw will perform their landmark “Worship & Tribute” album in its entirety exclusively at SONISPHERE. Formed in 1993, glassjaw took their hardcore and punk influences and DIY attitude to create a genre defying sound entirely their own.

GlassjawOver the years the band has brought their art to the public through undisclosed elaborate algorithms and sequential coding which up to now has baffled modern day mathematicians, scientists and fans alike. So, with releases such as 8/8, 9/9, 10/10, 11/11, 12/12, 01/01/11 and 07,07,07, one questions how, 10 years later, another significant sequential date of 8/7 could have been planned out with such accuracy. The Mayan calendar doesn’t have shit on these guys.

Now, glassjaw play the historic KNEBWORTH, a fitting site for this pioneering collective from Long Island, NY with a punk rock ethos and a desire to challenge the boundaries of guitar music.

Another ten year anniversary comes in the form of HUNDRED REASONS’ “Ideas Above Our Station”, which the Aldershot quintet will perform in full in BOHEMIA on the Friday. From the moment the band played their first show at London’s Kingston Peel, it was obvious HUNDRED REASONS were gong to make a name for themselves. Within months they were being offered high-profile support slots, plastered all over Kerrang! Magazine and generally creating a buzz wherever they went.

Earning a Top 10 (#6) chart position on its release in May 2002, “Ideas Above Our Station” is HUNDRED REASONS’ biggest selling album to date. Featuring chart topping singles including “If I Could”, Silver” and “Falter”, HUNDRED REASONS will see a packed out BOHEMIA relive a magical moment in music’s history.

Says guitarist Larry Hibbitt:

“We are galactically excited to be playing Sonisphere Festival 2012. It's been way too long and we can't wait to get back to doing exactly what we do best. See you at the front."

BLACK STONE CHERRY makes their SONISPHERE debut on the APOLLO stage on the Friday. With last year’s “Between The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” rapturously received by a rock loving public, crashing into number 1 in the UK Rock Charts, the rapidly rising Kentucky quartet shows no sign of slowing down as they kick off a SOLD OUT UK TOUR later this week.

“Now we can check off another goal on the ole BSC "wanna do it" list!” says guitarist Ben Wells. “We can't wait to make our debut at Sonisphere 2012!!”

With gargantuan riffs and even bigger hooks, songs like “Rain Wizard” and “Blind Man” to dish out, SONISPHERE is serving the hottest piece of the BLACK STONE CHERRY pie so far.

If there’s one man capable of getting 60,000 music fans to go loco it’s SKINDRED’s Benji Webbe. The charismatic frontman has led his raga-punk troupe since 1998, earning a reputation as one of the best live acts around today. With an instantly recognisable sound totally their own, their musical mix of metal, reggae, dance and punk is at it’s height, as they headline the sold-out JAGERMEISTER MUSIC tour next month. Says Benji:

“We've built this band on being a solid, tight live act, and what more of a perfect platform can one ask for other than Sonisphere Festival Knebworth 2012. We are so thankful and honoured to be invited back once again! We are gunna get this place rocking. We are gunna get this place bouncing. WE ARE GUNNA GET YOU Bitches! SD crew step up!”

Whether it’s a packed out club or a huge festival field the size of KNEBWORTH, one can be certain that everybody in sight will have no option but to let the music take over, and their set on SONISPHERE’s SATURN stage will be one of Saturday’s highlights.

Legendary post-punk heroes NEW MODEL ARMY join the SONISPHERE cast for a very special late night set on Friday night in BOHEMIA after headliners KISS wrap up the APOLLO stage. Forming in Bradford in 1980, NMA earned a highly dedicated and impassioned fanbase through their combination of angry punk, modern-day protest folk and anthemic political chanting, which included the likes of Brazilian metallers SEPULTURA who covered “The Hunt”. Their set in BOHEMIA will be highly anticipated, and serve to showcase the diversity and wide range of music on offer at SONISPHERE this summer.

Since their formation in 1993, ELECTRIC WIZARD’s name was a familiar one amongst metal underground, but in 2007 – perhaps after a pact with the devil himself – the Dorset four-piece have been riding a black wave of success off the back of their “Witchcult Today” album. 2010’s “Black Masses” has only seen that success continue, with the band poised to play their biggest headline show to date later this month at London’s Forum. Sludgey, heavy, the epitome of doom, let us pray that BOHEMIA’s structure can withstand the WIZARD’s down-tuned onslaught.

A bunch of men travelling around the world selling their wares, plundering booty and devouring rum – the natural merger of touring band and buccaneering pirates has long been inevitable, and leading that charge are Scotsmen ALESTORM. Having just completed a sell out tour of the UK, Describing themselves as “True Scottish Pirate Metal”, these swashbuckling scallywags combine elements of folk and power metal with nautical nastiness and are announced hot off the back of a sold out UK tour. Ideal festival fun, ALESTORM will shiver your timbers and blow you down when they open the SATURN stage on Saturday.

If one day dictionaries have audio examples of definitions replacing the current standard text format, one wouldn’t be surprised to hear CROWBAR’s “Broken Glass” under the “Heavy” entry. Led by Kirk Windstein – now also one of the leading forces in DOWN – these sludge metal pioneers were one of the first bands to show the world that being heavy is not just about playing fast, and in fact that the opposite is true. With heavy hitters like “”All I Had (I Gave)”, “Nothing” and “Planets Collide”, their exclusive festival appearance will test BOHEMIA’s structural integrity to its limits.

Norwegian black’n’rollers KVELERTAK return to SONISPHERE for a second time after their 2010 appearance in the wake of a massive buzz. That a six piece from Stavanger, Norway who sing about Norse mythology and Viking folklore solely in their native tongue, could become one of the hottest and most talked about acts of late is testament to just how awesome their music is, and their only UK show of 2012 on Sunday in BOHEMIA will be a triumphant return.

Alternative rock heroes SEETHER play their only UK festival on SONISPHERE’s SATURN stage on the Sunday. The South African post-grunge trio have enjoyed massive success in the States, making them one of SA’s biggest musical exports, with four out of six records earning gold status. Currently touring with multi-platinum rockers 3 DOORS DOWN, SEETHER are slowly but surely winning over fans on this side of the pond, and their exclusive festival appearance at SONISPHERE will show us why.

The first band to be announced for the RED BULL BEDROOM JAM stage is Kerrang! Introducing stars THE GETAWAY PLAN. "To be able to say that we are a part of the Sonisphere festival this year is an absolute honour.” Says frontman Matthew Wright. “This is going to be our first time to the UK and our first ever show outside of Australia. We're over the fucking moon!" The Aussie rockers make their UK debut at SONISPHERE on the Saturday, giving UK fans the first chance to see why Australian rock fans have ensured chart topping success for the alt-rock four piece.

TIM MINCHIN LEADS COMEDY ELEMENT WITH HEADLINE SLOT ON SATURN STAGE

Queen’ Brian May and Roger Taylor today confirmed the band will headline the second day of this year’s Sonisphere Festival appearing at the festival home ground Knebworth Park, Stevenage, on Saturday July 7.

Knebworth was the setting for Queen’s final concert with Freddie Mercury in August 1986.

May and Taylor also confirmed that for this special one-off concert they will be joined by US singer-songwriter Adam Lambert.

Since first encountering each other during American Idol Season 8 in May 2009 where Lambert joined the band to perform We Are the Champions the two have repeatedly hinted at a future collaboration, most recently with Taylor telling Billboard Magazine "He (Adam) has grown into a really great performer with an astonishing voice with a range that's great. We would like to work with him again. There's nothing signed just yet but …it could be very exciting."

 Queen

After their brief meeting on American Idol, the potent chemistry between Queen and Lambert finally broke the surface when at the invitation of Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor Lambert joined them for the closing showcase at the recent MTV Europe Awards where Queen were present to collect their Global Icon award.

Their eight minute MTVE set ignited an immediate reaction across the internet with social network sites buzzing with excitement and campaigning for a more formal union between Queen and Lambert. The Sonisphere 2012 Knebworth stage will at last provide an eager public the opportunity to see May, Taylor and Lambert delve deeper into exploring their very evident artistic appreciation of one another.

Says Brian May: “Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It's a worthy challenge for us, and I'm sure Adam would meet with Freddie's approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush.”

Lambert adds: “I'm completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. The thought of sharing the stage for a full set is so beautifully surreal. I'm honoured to be able to pay my respects to Freddie's memory. He's a personal hero of mine and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know the evening will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band I know magic will be on display.”

Queen’s previous performance at Knebworth Park, close on twenty-six years ago ,  August 9, 1986, was set up to be the glorious last stop for the band’s monstrously successful Magic Tour which had spread out across Europe over eight weeks of that summer.  Over a million people had already paid to see them.

Now riding one of the highest crests in their career, Queen drew a record crowd of 120,000, their biggest ever UK audience.  Coming on the back of two stunning shows at Wembley Stadium – to this day regarded as among their finest performances – anticipation was high.

Queen delivered the goods, winding up the crowd by arriving above their heads in a custom decorated helicopter, and then going on to perform a Queen textbook set to a deliriously enthusiastic audience, winding up with an emotional ‘God Save the Queen’ and Freddie wishing his audience ‘sweet dreams’.

What no-one in that Knebworth Park audience, and as far as we know, not even the band could anticipate that day, was that a new chapter in Queen’s history was being written: after more than 700 concerts together, what was taking place was the very last live concert of Freddie Mercury with Queen.

With the exception of an appearance in 1988 with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe to launch Barcelona’s successful bid for the 1992 Olympic Games performing their duet ‘Barcelona’, Mercury would never again be seen performing to a public audience.

On what will undoubtedly rate as one of this summer’s most highly anticipated and emotionally charged concerts Queen’s Roger Taylor says: "I remember Knebworth as being the most incredible gig, with the most amazing audience and the sound on stage was utterly perfect. It was a fitting last stand before a live audience for Freddie. It will be a real challenge to complete the circle by returning with Adam."

Shooting rockets. Blood spitting. Face Paint. Shiny Boots and utterly jaw dropping triumphant live shows: SONISPHERE is proud to announce KISS as Friday's headliner. With a reputation for being perhaps the most flamboyant and entertaining band on the planet, the American Kings will bring their stage extravaganza to SONISPHERE as their only European performance of 2012

For the final, Sunday night, SONISPHERE KNEBWORTH is proud to announce the legendary FAITH NO MORE as the headline act on the APOLLO stage. Mike Bordin, Roddy Bottum, Bill Gould, Jon Hudson and Mike Patton are poised to set KNEBWORTH on fire when they close the last night at SONISPHERE with their only UK appearance in 2012. Of their set Gould comments:"It was over 2 years ago when we decided to reform and play those amazing UK shows. The good news is, we've had a couple of years to improve our skills; moving our song to error ratio down 3.5 full percentage points. Watch out UK, we're going to do it right this time!!"

Joining the three superb headliners are some of the biggest names from the world of rock and metal including:

WITHIN TEMPTATION – only UK show of 2012, EVANESCENCE – only UK show of 2012,THE DARKNESS,INCUBUS – only UK show of 2012, MARILYN MANSON – only UK show of 2012, ANDREW WK – only UK festival show of 2012, REFUSED – only UK show of 2012,MASTODON – only UK festival show of 2012, THE BLACKOUT and more.

As well as the exciting names from the world of rock, SONISPHERE once again shows it’s forward thinking nature, and invites musician/comedian TIM MINCHIN to headline the Saturday night on SATURN. Since his first appearance at SONISPHERE back in 2010 theTIM’s success has gone from strength to strength, resulting in his first UK arena tour, his first West End Musical (Matilda The Musical) and numerous high profile TV appearances. After the astounding success of Bill Bailey’s SATURN slot last year, TIM – with full backing band in tow – is bound to deliver a much talked about and highly memorable show atSONISPHERE.

Slipknot’s historic set to be transmitted live from Sonisphere Knebworth

SlipknotThe webcasting of SLIPKNOT’s historic Sunday night headline set live across the world from KNEBWORTH, will go out live on Slipknot1.com as well as Sonispherefestivals.com. Set to be an epic and emotional occasion, this highly anticipated show will mark the band’s first appearance in the UK in over two years and their first British performance without founding member Paul Gray, who tragically passed away last year.

The band said of the upcoming performance: “England has always been a special place for this band from the very beginning. We can’t think of a better way to culminate our celebration of Paul’s life than to share it with the Maggots at Knebworth and the millions more watching around the world.  This is not to be missed.”

Says festival producer Stuart Galbraith:

“This is the first time Sonisphere Festival has been transmitted live across the web and represents yet another major stride in its commitment to harnessing the power of the internet to engage with the rock audience at large across the planet. Given that this is going to be such an important event for Slipknot fans the world over, we felt it only right to allow them all to share in what is set to be a historic experience, wherever they are.”

SHUTTLES
A FREE shuttle bus service will run during the scheduled train timings from Stevenage Train Station to the Sonisphere site starting at 1pm on the Thursday and ending once you have all gone on Monday. It will be a continuous service rather than at set times. More buses will be available during busy periods but you may need to wait for a short while to get the next available bus.

The shuttle bus is not reserved for just rail users. It can be used by local festival goers and people staying or parking in Stevenage. The shuttle bus will leave from the Leisure Park at the foot of the railway station bridge and takes you close to the entrance to the festival.

Rock Royalty camping customers have an additional shuttle which picks them up from the train station and takes them to the Rock Royalty reception. These buses will be specially labeled Rock Royalty.

Please note that all day on Thursday and on Friday till 9pm, the shuttles will only be available for trips in one direction from Stevenage to the festival. You will not be able to use it for return journeys back to Stevenage. This is to ensure that we turn the buses around as quickly as possible and make the trip from the station as quick as we can for everyone using this service.

BY AIR
Knebworth is in close proximity to all of the main London airports: Heathrow (30 miles), Stanstead (25 miles), Gatwick (75 miles) and Luton (12 miles). Trains run from all these airports to London where you can pick up a train to Stevenage.

BY RAIL

The nearest useable rail station is Stevenage, two miles away. There is a free shuttle service from the station (see above) plus is a taxi rank. Taxis should cost around £10 to the festival site (depending on traffic). Non-stop Inter-City and local services run to Stevenage from London Kings Cross Station around every 30 minutes. Plus, there are frequent Inter-City connections on the East Coast main line to Cambridge, York, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and many other destinations.

Please note that there will be NO festival access from Knebworth Train Station. You must use Stevenage station.

It is STRONGLY recommended that return train tickets are bought in advance. Stevenage is on a very busy commuter line and has narrow platforms so it will not be possible for festival goers to gain access to the station till after 9.30am once the commuter traffic has died down. The free shuttle service will start at 9.15am from the site but you may need to wait
for a short while at the station before accessing the platforms.
