Jess Glynne, Circa Waves and more for Live at Leeds 2016

Officially kicking off the festival season, Live At Leeds hosts the biggest names alongside the best in new and upcoming acts, and this year is no different. Having played host to the likes of Bastille, James Blake, Wild Beasts, The Cribs, Bombay Bicycle Club, Rudimental and The Vaccines over the years, each year Live At Leeds provides a snapshot of everything that is vital in music right now, and 2016’s event will be no different.

Leading the charge amongst the first series of artists to be announced is the fantastic Jess Glynne, who will be bringing her chart-topping hits to Live At Leeds 2016. Breaking onto the scene after her appearances with Clean Bandit, this year saw Glynne release her acclaimed debut album I Cry When I Laugh, which was jam packed with singles that will no doubt sound massive when played at the UK's premiere metropolitan festival for new music.

Joining 2015’s biggest pop sensation will be Circa Waves. Arguably one of the most important groups in indie at the moment, the Liverpool four piece have gone from strength to strength in 2015, storming major festivals all over the world and smashing stunning headline tours, rising to play huge venues including 02 Brixton Academy and more. Needless to say, their appearance at LAL looks set to be nothing short of spectacular.

Also joining the bill are indie legends We Are Scientists. Undeniable icons, it's fair to say the duo hold fond memories in any indie fan's heart, releasing countless hits over the last decade, from classics like 'The Great Escape' and 'Nobody Move, Nobody Gets Hurt', through to 2014's 'Dumb Luck' and 'Return The Favour'. Visceral, empowering and above all else fun, their performance is sure to draw a huge crowd. Band of Skulls will also bring their signature brand of raucous rock to proceedings, effortlessly justifying the huge festival and support slots they’ve played in the past.

Representing the artists that will come to dominate 2016, Rat BoyClean Cut Kid and Barns Courtney have also been revealed to play the festival. Receiving a wealth of critical acclaim in recent months, these three acts look set to be huge by 2016, and with a barrage of hits already under their belts, summer festival season is theirs for the taking, starting with Live At Leeds.

Speaking about this year’s talent and the festival’s 10 year legacy, lead booker Andy Smith commented: 2016 will be the tenth year of booking Live at Leeds, it feels like a great achievement to have grown what was originally a four venue bill to what it is today.”

“We have seen some great names grace our stages over those ten years and I’m really looking forward to next year and what will hopefully be our biggest event yet, it really feels like we are stepping up another level”

The Cribs to perform at Live at Leeds 2015

Kicking off the festival season and having already announced a huge lineup including Carl Barat & The Jackals, Dry The River, Dutch Uncles, Thurston Moore, Eagulls, Stormzy, Swim Deep and Hookworms, Live At Leeds are proud to announce the addition of The Cribs to the festival.

With their forthcoming sixth album ‘For All My Sisters’ due on March 23rd, the Wakefield trio are back after what feels like a far too lengthy absence. From the punk squall of seminal signature tune ‘Hey Scenesters!’ through to enlisting Smiths legend Johnny Marr for full length ‘Ignore The Ignorant’ they are a band that have consistently pushed the boundaries of indie music and their attitude befits the festival perfectly. Festival-goers can preorder the album alongside their Live At Leeds tickets at http://smarturl.it/CribsLeeds

The Cribs’ Gary Jarman says:

“We are really looking forward to headlining Live at Leeds. It's cool because Leeds has always embraced us, and so to be asked to play our 'comeback' show headlining the festival is something that we are really looking forward to. The two nights we played at the Academy in december 2013 were the last shows that we played in the city, and they were 2 of our all time favourite gigs – so we have nothing but good feelings towards Leeds right now.”

Sheffield’s Rolo Tomassi have relentlessly pushed the envelope of heavy music since their inception in 2005. Ten years of progression have lead to their eagerly anticipated upcoming album ‘Grievances’ and Live At Leeds are extremely excited to have them back.

Rolo Tomassi’s James Spence says:

"We're pleased to have the opportunity to return to play this years Live at Leeds. Having played the festival in 2010, we know what its all about and are glad to be joining an already fantastic line-up and I hope to catch a bunch of acts on the day!"

Also joining this year’s lineup today are Amy StudtCharlie HoleDan OwenElderbrookFossaJohnny O’DonnellJonny QuitsRupert Stroud,Samuel S ParkesSophie JamiesonThe Vryll Society and Whilk and Misky.

Fifty more acts added to Live at Leeds lineup

Having announced the first wave of artists for this year’s festival including the likes of chart toppers Clean Bandit, indie legend Albert Hammond Jr and breakthrough band Wolf Alice as well as the special Leeds Town Hall show featuring a reformed ¡Forward Russia!, Live At Leeds Festival now announce a further 50 bands to the 2014 lineup!

The additions to the lineup once again promise to showcase everything from the best in up coming UK songwriting talent to hotly tipped groups from both sides of the pond!

With an emphasis on the up and coming, the festival will see Manchester-based star in the making Bipolar Sunshine bring his sublime, upbeat and original pop to the festival. 2013 saw him collaborate with the likes of Rudimental and FTSE and this is bound to be a year of even further breakthrough for the young musician. Also joining the lineup and in a similar camp of luscious, soulful pop are the hotly tipped recent Kitsuné signees Years & Years, the electro-pop trio’s recent Hype Machine topping single ‘Real’ caused waves and points to what will surely be a successful year. The elegant, fragile sounds of London via Kendal four-piece Woman’s Hour will also be bringing the painful longing of their upcoming Secretly Canadian debut album to the festival and are not to be missed whilst The Bug’s noise loving dancehall and hip-hop influenced electronica is sure to get people moving. Having been longlisted for the prestigious BBC Sound Of 2014 poll, Bristol singer songwriter George Ezra will also be bringing the tender sounds of his single ‘Budapest’ to the fest whilst fellow act to watch out for in 2014, Fat White Family will be peddling their intense brand of sleazy and visceral rock n roll.

Festival attendees with a penchant for the heavier side of things will also certainly have their tastes catered for. The Finnish apocalyptic post-punk quartet Beastmilk favour huge riffs and equal sizeable with a gothic and metallic twinge that is sure to appeal to fans of Savages and Queens Of The Stone Age alike as showcased on last years Kurt Ballou produced full length ‘Climax’. New York’s Big Ups will also be on hand to bring their frantic, abrasive 90s influenced punk to the festival. Echoes of the Jesus Lizard, Fugazi and Quicksand peppered this year’s debut full length ‘Eighteen Hours of Static’ and with a live show even more energetic than their recorded output, they are sure to be a highlight of the weekend.

Blurring the boundary between solo artist and band, Nottingham’s 18 year old Saint Raymond has a knack for layering his distinctly pop sensibilities with gritty, honest lyrics and a wisdom well beyond his years that has seen him gain a level of attention that is sure to grow. With a similar ear for a pop melody but with their feet more solidly in the indie/rock camp, Californians The Neighbourhood last year revealed their debut album ‘I Love You’ to much praise and having recently supported seemingly unstoppable group The 1975 on their sold out tour are sure to make their presence known in the UK this year. Joining these will be Leeds very own The Sunshine Underground who with a new album due will be bringing their fusion of punk, indie and electronic music to the festival!

New stage for Live at Leeds 2014 announced

This years exciting addition of the Leeds Town Hall as a new venue for Live At Leeds brings with it one of the finest home grown lineups going! In a city full of musical heritage, few buildings hold as much cultural gravitas as the Town Hall. Built between 1853 and 1858 and opened by Queen Victoria, the beautiful structure has been a hub for music, film and education for many years making it a true cultural mainstay of the city.

The inimitable ¡Forward Russia! will be reforming to headline proceedings and bring with them their famed and oh too missed angular, jarring post-punk. Having last performed as a one-off to celebrate the 100th birthday of the legendary Leeds Brudenell Social Club at the tail end of last year they’re a true part of the city’s music scene and a more than welcome addition to this year’s Live At Leeds lineup.

"After playing the 100 year anniversary at the Brudenell last year there was really no intention to do anything else. We never played Live At Leeds the first time around, but the opportunity to headline such a great venue with great friends was too good to turn down. We played with I Like Trains loads and I played live with Sam." – Whiskas, ¡Forward Russia!

Joining them will be Leeds locals I Like Trains. The brooding post rock quartet recently celebrated ten years as a band and continue to captivate audiences with their fascinating and brilliantly original music. Having joined headliners ¡Forward Russia! in celebrating the Brudenell’s centenary by performing and re-releasing their debut EP Progress/Reform, the band know Leeds better than most and their historically rooted songs are a perfect match for both the venue and the festival.

“Not only are we excited to be playing such a grand old venue in Leeds for the first time, we also get to share it with friends and co-conspirators Forward Russia and Sam Airey.  Throw in Lanterns on the Lake and there is no reason for people to leave the Town Hall.  Our 10 year history is inextricably linked with Forward Russia.  Tom and Whiskas were working at our very first show, Whiskas put out our first single on Dance to the Radio and we've remained good friends and collaborators ever since.  It is great to see them doing their spiky thing once again." – Dave Martin, I Like Trains

Part of the ever-excellent Bella Union stable, Newcastle’s Lanterns On The Lake find inspiration in the sprawling coastal scenes of the North East and this is reflected in their brand of sometimes grand and cinematic, sometimes introverted and anxious but always beautiful post-rock.

With a debut album on the way Sam Airey’s BBC 6 Music championed music has placed the folk wunderkid as a true one to watch. The Welsh-born but Leeds residing musician will be bringing his full band show to the Town Hall and with it songs from his acclaimed ‘A Marker & A Map EP’.

"Truth be told, I'm excited! I'm fairly certain it'll be the biggest Leeds show we've played as a full band, and pretty wonderful to be sharing the stage with bands who are not only are musicians I admire but also mates of mine (ahhhhhhhh). FR and ILT were the first bands I was really aware of when I moved to Leeds a few years ago, and I look up to them not just musically but in terms of their ambitions, and also their attitudes towards making music and creating a sense of community amongst their fanbases. I played with Lanterns on the Lake a couple of times around when I was first starting out so it'll be fun to join them once again – they're one of my favourite bands in the UK right now and their latest record is really great" – Sam Airey

Indie fans need look no further than indie legend and The Strokes guitar hero Albert Hammond Jr. As well as this we have the addition of Pitchfork championed, jangly Welsh indie-pop sextet Los Campesinos! to the line-up as well as the ferocious, grungy pop songs of NME 2014 hopefuls Wolf Alice and Yuck’s Dinosaur Jr and Pavement influenced brand of fuzzy indie-rock.

Rock fans will also rejoice at the inclusion of Leeds’ noisiest sons and prime UK rock exports the chart- bothering Pulled Apart By Horses as well as fellow locals, the captivating I Like Trains.

As well as this the weekend features a separate set of eclectic, stand alone ‘Live At Leeds presents’ shows featuring Brighton’s alternative duo Blood Red Shoes, Dublin based 2013 breakthrough rockers Kodaline and post-metal titansNeurosis respectively.
