Paloma Faith & The Vaccines to headline Evolution Festival

Paloma Faith is the queen of retro soul and sassy pop and this this complete (and petite!) performer commands the stage with her rabble rousing shows.

Performing tracks from her two highly acclaimed albums ‘Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful’ and ‘Fall To Grace’ Paloma has been nominated for Best Female Solo Artist and Best British Album at the Brit Awards.

Paloma Faith

The Vaccines are arguably the best live band in the country and have been nominated as one of the best live acts at the Brit Awards.  The band are also shortlisted in the Best British Band and Best Album categories at the upcoming NME Awards.  Their ‘Come Of Age’ album entered the chart at number 1 and they continue to spearhead the UK’s garage / indie rock movement

Jake Bugg has taken the music world by storm over the last 12 months, seemingly appearing from nowhere to becoming one of the most acclaimed artists in the country.  His eponymous debut album reached number 1 in the charts and has been a permanent fixture in the top 10 ever since.  This 18 year old somehow manages to sound retro and yet absolutely modern and his set is sure to be one of the defining Evolution moments.

One of the UK’s most singular and compelling songwriters Ellie Goulding has found international acclaim with her albums ‘Lights’ and ‘Halcyon’.  Halcyon saw Ellie laying her emotions bare, a journey out of heartbreak and into hope.  Back on track her live performances earned rave reviews in 2012 and this is the first opportunity to catch Ellie at a festival in 2013.

Rudimental are the new drum & bass dons, tearing up clubs where ever they perform and this is a rare chance to catch them live as they bring the sound of the dance floor to Evolution.  Bastille have been cited as the most exciting thing to happen in indie for a long time.  Fronted by Dan Smith the band quietly built a fan base before releasing their debut album Bad Blood which has spawned a number of big radio records over the past few months.

London based duo, AlunaGeorge are the name on all the critics lips in 2013.  Having been together for barely a year, this talented duo’s infectious mixes are immersed in sweet harmonies and electronic charm.  Nominated for both the BBC Sound of 2013 and the Brits Critics Choice award, catch them at Evolution before they go stratospheric.

The Strypes are undoubtedly the hottest band in the world right now.  This four piece rhythm and blues band from Ireland viciously hammer out their no-nonsense blues repertoire and have already met with critical acclaim from greats such as Jeff Beck and Paul Weller for their outstanding live shows.  This is a must not miss performance at Evolution.

Headlining the dance stage are two of the most gargantuan names in electronic music Sub Focus and Modestep both of whom will be performing live.

Sub Focus is one of the superstars of bass music, a production obsessive whose attention to detail is matched only by the raw spectacle of his incredible live show.  A bone fide cross over artist Sub Focus is that rare thing in dance
music, someone who can keep one foot in the underground and still have credible radio hits all of which he will be performing for the Evolution crowd.

Modestep fused dubstep and electronic rock to devastating effect on their debut album ‘Evolution Theory’.  Their sound is a hybrid of heavy rock riffs, brutal synths and bludgeoning synth breaks, all connected together by soulful pop led vocal melodies.  Modestep slay audiences wherever they play.

Other acts confirmed for Evolution include the 21st century soul of rising local star Lulu James, Nas protégé Arlissa, the haunting acoustic indie and folk of Sunderland’s The Lake Poets, Grime superstar Lethal Bizzle, Radio 1 and 1xtra supremo MistaJam and drum & bass / breakstep overlord Zinc.

Dizzee Rascal, Deadmau5 and more set for Evolution Festival 2012!

Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend
Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th June
NewcastleGateshead Quayside

Dizzee Rascal, Deadmau5, Maximo Park, Noah & The Whale plus many more confirmed for the North East music spectacular

Dizzee RascalEvolution Festival returns to the North East on the Diamond Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend with a stellar line up of the most influential and exciting names in popular music.  Evolution attracts 28,000 people per day to the Quayside, delivering an outstanding bill of contemporary live acts and dj’s at an unbeatable price.  And the 2012 line up is the best one yet!

2012 is the ‘Return Of The Rascal” headlining the main stage on Sunday is the irrepressible Dizzee Rascal.  The ultimate showman whose pop sensibilities seamlessly fuse Grime, House and Hip-hop Dizzee Rascal ensures rapturous responses from audience and arrives with a sack load of number 1 hits including Dance Wiv Me, Bonkers, Holiday and Dirtee Disco.

Not the first dead rodent to be found on the Quayside but certainly the biggest, famed for his notorious live shows, the mighty Deadmau5 brings the biggest production ever to Evolution with his jaw dropping audio visual spectacular. His set up will no doubt light up the Quayside for a perfect finale to the weekend. With an epic mix of EDM Deadmau5 is a genuine global star and this is his only North of England show this year.

The North East’s favourite sons Maximo Park will grace the stage as very special guests in support of Dizzee. Having blazed a trail around the Globe representing all that is good and infectious about the North East we are stoked to have them at Evolution and with the band currently ensconced in the Studio working on their new album we look forward to giving the boys a HUGE hometown welcome as they hit the stage for one of their legendary, incendiary live shows.

Noah & The Whale delivered the hugely critically and commercially successful ‘Last Night On Earth’ album last year and are undoubtedly one of the best live bands in the country as their recent sell out UK tour demonstrated. Variously described as anti-folk, nu-folk and folk-pop (a confusing multitude of pigeonholes) alongside like-minded souls such as Laura Marling and Emmy the Great. Both of whom were part-time members of the band at various points.

Rizzle Kicks have been the undisputed breakout act of the past 6 months seemingly coming from nowhere to top radio playlist and the charts and injecting some fun into proceedings wherever they perform.  Rizzle Kicks are destined for superstardom in 2012 and their set will be one of the feel good moments of the festival.

Deadmau5

Whilst touring with the Arctic Monkeys with The Rascals, Miles Kane developed

a strong friendship with front man Alex Turner. They shared a love of the same musical influences, such as Nick Cave. The pair began to play together backstage, and soon began writing new tracks. They realized that there was a future in their songwriting partnership, and the Last Shadow Puppets were born. Since his work with Turner Kane has shone with his solo material and his debut album has won millions of plaudits.

With artist such as Devlin, Benjamin Francis Letfwich, Band Of Skulls, Spector and Jessie Ware amongst other confirmations on the main stage, Evolution 2012’s line up takes on monstrous proportions.

The Ballast Hills this year will be home of some of the most pioneering electronic music and all tastes are catered for with a truly amazing and eclectic bill across both days.  DJ sets from DJ Fresh, SBTRKT, Jack Beats, Toddla T, Maya Jane Coles and a live set from Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs are certain to have the Evolution crowd partying into the night.

Evolution promoter Jim Mawdsley comments ‘We are very proud to bring such a strong and progressive line up to NewcastleGateshead for this years Evolution Festival. We look forward to partying with you all in June’.

Evolution festival continues to bring the best artists to the North East to perform in front of the UK’s most rapturous festival audience.  At £25 for a day ticket or £35 for the weekend, Evolution continues its tradition of providing an amazing show for an unbeatable price.

Alongside hosting some of the biggest acts on the planet Evolution will once again introduce the crowd to a wealth of emerging local talent on the third stage – partnered with Generator the UK’s leading Music Development Agency this stage gives local talent a chance to get their foot on the ladder and play to the biggest crowd of their careers to date

I’ve always liked the north. I like the bands too. I’m ready to get down and rave like a Geordie. I’m really happy we get a chance to play at Evolution. We are all deranged spitfires. Do you wanna dance?” – Iggy Pop

Really looking forward to Evolution Festival – every time we have played Newcastle it has always gone off!” – Plan B

Evolution is proud to announce their headliners for the 2011 show. First up on Saturday it’s the legendary Iggy and the Stooges whose raw power and incendiary live performances are the stuff of rock n’ roll legend. Iggy Pop is a genuine musical icon and an influential innovator of rock n roll so expect Iggy and the Stooges sound to reverberate all over the North East.

Sunday’s headliner is Plan B, the hottest property in pop music right now. The antidote to X Factor wannabees, his critically and commercially successful album The Defamation Of Strickland Banks showcased his street wise swagger and cutting edge lyrics and he’s sure to have the masses singing along to his razor sharp, soul tinged anthems.

It’s a testament to the growing international profile of Evolution that we are able to secure and announce our 2011 headliners so early. Iggy & The Stooges will own the mainstage on the Saturday night – Iggy’s unparalleled energy makes him one of the finest front men ever to grace the stage and the North East is in for a real treat with this headline performance. Plan B has become a huge phenomenon over the last year – his 21st century soul is the perfect way to close the festival on Sunday night. The live show is an incredible journey through the album and beyond. It’s fantastic to have him on board”. – Jim Mawdsley and Dave Stone – Evolution Promoters

Full supporting cast to be announced in early 2011.
